It is a small store serving authentic middle eastern items. I primarily go there for fresh afghani bread (naan) which they make daily right in front of you. No funny chemicals, no preservatives, just freshly made warm bread. They make for very good pizza base and can be eaten with Indian curries, saves me a ton of time. They also carry some niche items like authentic Shilajeet, saffron, dried apricots. The sweets are really authentic too like their Baklava is really good. The staff is really nice and helpful, one time they started the oven to make bread for me after they were done making bread for the day. read more

I wrote a review about 4 years ago but since then it has changed ownership. Happy to say that the baklava and other middle eastern pastries still tasted really good. Plenty of nuts and subtle flavors, sweet but not excessively. The flatbread made in house, fresh daily, is now Afghan bread but just as good as the Iraqi bread I used to get here. They have a variety of special packaged, refrigerated and frozen products. Small store, usually easy to park in front. read more

I've placed a order they told me that it will be ready by 1pm I've called 1 hours ahead. And now they are telling me wait other 30min this place is unprofessional. No great customer service. That's why I'm giving one star. shame on this place. read more

I came by specifically for baklava and I was impressed at their many different types of baklava- pistachios, walnuts, diamond shaped, square shaped, rolled. I picked four different kinds and each were so delicious and crispy and fresh! Very pricey though. I think it costs $15.99/lb which is more than other places I've been to for quality baklava. There was a separate long line of customers waiting for fresh Samoon (Iraqi flatbread) but I didn't want to wait 20+ minutes so I left. People were waiting in line out the door for these Samoons. I'll have to try next time and see what all the hype is about. read more

My mom and I love Arabic bread! We stopped by and the daughter, Rayand(?) was soooo patient with us. We had so many questions and she took the time to explain nearly every single bread or pastry we had questions about. We ended up getting nearly everything from the "samoons" to so many different kinds of baklava. We went home and vowed to be back. read more

Wonderful Iraqi bakery on the Kent's East Hill. Bought a variety of "cookies" and some fresh-out-the-oven bread. The cookies are not very sweet which is how we like them. The sesame cookies were our favorite, a shortbread rolled in sesame seeds and shaped into a flatted ring. Tasty! The bread was similar to French bread but was shaped like a flatted football. We bought it warm and ate almost half of it on the way home. My wife did get a few odd looks as she went in dressed in cycling clothes, where the owners were dressed in more conservative clothing. Overall, a nice change of pace from our usual Asian fare. We will be back! read more

A friend of mine brought a pack of Baklava bought from these guys that turned out so dry and stale that I think was sitting on their shelves for a month or longer. I called to let them know. A lady answered with a hello, I told her my name and explained the concern. She did not seem to understand and I asked to speak with the owner. A guy came on the line, again a hello. I tried to explain and without even listening; he burst out who is this and why you are calling. I told him my name again and the reason. His short answer was, "I don't have time for this" and hung up. I feel obligated to let other customers know the state of merchandise and customer service they have and would like everyone to be careful when buying and dealing with these guys. read more

Fantastic desserts! I have had many, many types of sweets from the Middle East and found delicious things here that I have never tried (for example, something with custard inside that they put pistachios on top of). Some Middle Eastern sweet places make their desserts so sweet that the only way you can finish them is with tons of tea. In my opinion, the desserts at Al Hamdani were sweetened at just the perfect amount! Also, their selection of groceries was great. I picked up some fantastic Iraqi tahini (with a nice, strong sesame taste) and was thrilled to find amba, a spiced powder of mango, turmeric, and some other things that make a tangy condiment. I can't speak to their sandwiches and grilled items, but I am happy with what I tried. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. The baklava and sweet items are tasty no doubt. The owners are not good people though and this ruined the whole experience. I'm an Indian American and had family visiting from overseas. I had been to this store one time before and bought some bread and had observed their sweet selection so I took my visitors to have a look. We are not so familiar with middle eastern sweets so we sampled an item or two and bought a half pound of mixed sweets to try and come back again if we liked them. After purchasing the sweets one of our party asked for a sample of another item that she was thinking to buy and take home but was rudely refused. They said we didn't buy enough and were done and just wanted something for free. When her son pointed out how this was not a very polite way to treat people buying their product, the owner used the f word in front of my 83 year old father and came threateningly toward us. I feel this would not have happened if we were white. In a nutshell the sweets are good but the owners are trash read more

The owner is a very talented lady from Iraq who knows how to make the perfect baklava - very thin and soft bottom crust ... fluffy top ... and most importantly not too sweet ... it's all made right there in the back room and sold by the pound ... lots of variety of flavors, combined with different kinds of nuts makes for a very delectable dessert. read more
