We celebrated my birthday at Alfe's, and it was the perfect festive environment! They don't take reservations, so it's best to pop in and put your name on the wait list (or sit by the bar and hope something becomes available). There are several rooms to this restaurant, and it is actually located underneath a bowling alley. Talk about a hidden gem, literally! We enjoyed the live entertainment. The performer was fantastic! There was a small dance floor in front of him, and rumor has it the patrons often jump up and cut the rug. I even got a birthday serenade, table-side. So cool! If a menu offers Pasta and Crab, then you can bet your hiney I am ordering it. This place DID IT UP. Huge chunks of real crab. More crab than any other restaurant in South Jersey (really, more than any other restaurant in the entire state of New Jersey...I order this dish everywhere). The red gravy was balanced (more tart than sweet, which is what I prefer). The house salad that arrived ahead of the entrees was delicious. Creamy yet light dressing, if that even makes sense. Our party of 7 raved about everything we ordered. The garlic bread was even insanely delicious. There are so many restaurants in the area, but THIS is one we will return to time and time again. Read a lot of reviews about this place- Nobody talks about the salad which was the best part of the meal- Bread nice seeded Italian bread sliced- seasoned oil and butter Entrees my wife got the shrimp Fradivolo she liked it thought it tasted slightly burnt. I had the grill grouper one of 5 fishes of the day (on a Tuesday..not a good sign) fish had zero flavor and tasted like it was purchased on Friday. The first time this week when we went the service and food was excellent! I had veal served Jacki's Way and it was very good. We went back a second time and the shrimp scampi was the best I have ever eaten!! Second time the salad that was served was much smaller than the first time we went and the service was not as good. Just came to say we adore Alfe's year after year. Since i was a kid and now I am 40 and still love their food. Salad is a staple (that I dream about). Nothing has ever been bad. Staff is exceptional. The low reviews are confusing. Alfe's is isexcellent and right up there with the best Italian places in the Wildwoods. Our dinner was an experience! The apps were all delicious. I had mussels in white wine and garlic and the broth was to die for! Everyone wanted to sop it all up with the lovely fresh bread! Then, they brought the salads! Their house salad is absolutely delicious. That was followed by a sweet little scoop of lemon gelato with freshly grated lemon zest on top! Perfect! My party walked in for the sunset dinner special. We were promptly seated and our drink orders were taken. The waiter was very friendly and explained how he was just returning to work after an injury and his son also worked on the boardwalk. After waiting 15 minutes to get in, even though the place is not busy sitting waiting another 20 minutes to order our drinks asking for something 3 times to have our food come out an hour and 10 minutes later to have it taste like it was just bought from a jar or the pasta section in the grocery store. Last night was my first and absolutely last time I will ever go to this place. And, I'm only giving this 2 stars because I was told restaurants can remove 1 star reviews. My family and I came here as a party of 11 and, right at the start, the server was rude, passive aggressive, and made us all uncomfortable. Then, one of us was served with a fruit fly in her drink and we weren't offered anything for that. Plus the server examined it as if she didn't believe us. Then, 3 of us ordered linguini with whole clams (and specifically asked for whole clams), but were served with chopped up clam sauce. The server then loudly (for all other tables to hear) chastised us on the difference between the sauces that we already knew. The table next to us even said to us that they couldn't believe we were yelled at because of the sauce! Then, one of us just wanted a Caesar salad with a piece of salmon on it and we had to pay for an entire salmon dinner plus the salad as a dinner. So, one piece of salmon cost $42 to add to a Caesar salad. I never in my life had a restaurant be so adamant on not accommodating special requests and that is not stated on their menu. Also, gratuity was supposed to be included for a party over 6, per what's stated in their menu, and it was not. I could have easily just paid that bill assuming it was included and she wouldn't have gotten anything but I was honest and asked about it. I wanted a nice dinner experience for my family and instead ended up in tears from the horrible experience. From the amount of money I spent, I definitely would've expected much better. Yo Alfe's! Nice job! I haven't been here for over 5 years, not because I was disappointed in the past, but that I just haven't had the pleasure. Yes, Alfe's decor is dated, but I'm not there looking for ideas on how I should remodel my home dining room. My wife and family enjoyed everything from start to finish. We really enjoyed the lemon sorbet they gave you before the entrees came out. The sorbet does a great job cleansing your pallet from the appetizers and home style salad. I've been there twice the summer, and our waitress and waiter were professional and friendly. They don't take reservations, so I recommend you get there when the doors open, unless you don't mind hanging out at the bar while you wait for a table. read more

3.5 stars. Visited during Wildwood's September Restaurant Week to try their prix fixe menu. The establishment was pretty crowded. There was a 35 minute wait which we were allowed to do at their bar. The atmosphere was pretty interesting. It was dimly lit (but not terribly so), cozy, intimate, and had some Frank Sinatra music playing the entire time we were there. The prix fixe menu choices were pretty decent! I went with the Bruchetta and the Tour of Italy. My friend got the calamari, Seafood Marinara, and Dark Side of the Moon cake. There was also house salad and buttered bread as part of the meal. The Bruchetta was pretty decent, but the menu did mention having three slices of bread when there was only two. The house salad was very delicious, it could be an entree of its own. I loved the seafood marinara and the tour of Italy entrees. Both were pretty delicious! For dessert, got the ice cream and dark side of the moon cake. That dark side of the moon cake was sooo good. Overall I have to say it was a pretty good value for the $40 prix fixe menu! Very good sampler. I do have to dock some points however. We didn't realize it until after the fact, but we never got the lemon sorbet as part of the 3rd course. The service was also a little slow. I'm fine with a slower paced meal, but the entire visit ended up being nearly 3 hours (including that long wait in the beginning). I'd be down to try this place again, things are likely better outside of restaurant week. I would recommend giving this place a try. I liked everything I tasted. It would be a great place to bring a date because of the atmosphere. Also suggest not filling up on the bread like we did :) read more

Alfe's is a great spot for a family dinner in Wildwood. It is a few blocks west from the boardwalk, but is walkable from there. We were able to make a reservation and we were seated on time. The service here is very good. Our waiter knew everything about the menu and their prices. We asked for our house salad to have the dressing on the side. When it was brought out, the dressing was in the salad. When we reminded the waiter, he promptly brought out the right order. The food was excellent, especially the veal porecca, veal parmesan and clam chowder. I had the veal parmesan and I felt that it wasn't too undercooked or hard. I had a great dinner here and recommend this restaraunt for anyone in the Wildwood area. read more

If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. Tonight, we had the Filet Special and the Chicken Special, both were phenomenal. I had the Filet A Poirve, which was a huge piece of filet cooked to a perfect medium, peppercorn sauce, jumbo lump crab, over pasta. It was amazing! The size of the filet was awesome, had to be 2" thick and 5" diameter, cooked perfect, not a bit of fat, very good. The sauce, the crab, all very good!! Wife had Chicken Santilli, which was lightly breaded chicken, tomatoes, mozzarella, with a balsamic drizzle. She said it was very good and tasty as well. Saturday night, 1 hr wait, expected, went to the bar, friendly service there and during dinner, highly recommend this place, you won't be disappointed!! Classic Italian spot in Wildwood. Came here per one of our friends's recommendation. It was just ok IMO. Bread/butter was good. The dipping olive oil was tasty. The specialty cocktail I got with Prosecco and raspberries was good. I got fried mozzarella as an app. I've had better from a local pizza shop. My entrée was grilled salmon served with Jackie's style. The salmon was so dry. The didn't let me choose a temp. The Jackie's style sauce with shrimp, crab and scallops was the best thing on the plate. No dessert as our table had tickets to an event and dinner ran long (2 hrs and we had to rush to get the check). I'd go again but try something else. read more

Visited here with friends who live in the area, since they knew it was popular on a Sat eve, we arrived near 4pm for early dinner, we were seated quickly. It's a very large restaurant, decor would likely be described as romantic to many. To me, a dated 40-50's style, decor is dated but condition is very up to date, seating was done to space groups this early to allow quiet comfort. By time we finished tables were getting very full nearby. Portions were generous, prices were higher than I expected but the food quality was good except for the salad, it was served in a generous family style bowl, already with dressing and seasoned, but consisted of the very wilted iceberg lettuce. More like leftover from an earlier buffet. Maybe that is a signature salad for Alfe's. A small tomato cut up and in the mix. Bread was served w butter and a small dipping portion of olive oil lightly garnished with capers and olives. Bread basket was refreshed once while we waited for our entree. Mid course we were served a nice sized lemon sorbet intermezzo. Service was excellent. As seniors we opted not to stuff ourselves and we each took a small , certainly less than a half portion away for another snack later perhaps ---since we dined early. It was an enjoyable evening with friends, but I would not say it was so great for the price, and I was a guest for the evening. I appreciate my friend's generosity and can't be exact on the cost of the evening but I do share my shrimp scampi seemed pricey to me at $32, having had it numerous times. I'd say this is a hidden gem, but only because there was no signage at the main entrance on New Jersey Ave. Seems there's construction or going on next door, hence the speakeasy vibe. It's a different story inside -- looks like everybody knows about Alfie's -- with the front bar area and cozy back rooms all fairly packed at 6:30 on a Friday night. Our group started with a flight of martinis (yea, a flight! Highly recommended) at the bar and then sat down to a rollicking dinner in one of the back rooms, complete with lots of house-made pasta and red sauce, warm loaves of bread, a wisecracking waiter and Sinatra classics blaring on the speaker system. In short, an awesome meal, with lots of good wine and colorful drinks... and half of us opting for the Chefs Tour of Italy sampler, all jammed with ravioli, gnocchi, stuffed shells, clams casino and I forget what else. Someone got the spicy Jacki house sauce on the side which we all used to dip the excellent bread into. Reasonable prices, solid drinks, a convivial atmosphere and a deep menu make Alfie's a keeper, especially for groups. Plus, they're open all year round. read more

I would give Alfe's a solid 3. Didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. Might come back if someone really wanted to but really didn't feel it lived up to the hype as I had hoped. Highlights included the salad (honestly could have made a meal out of that) and loved the lemon sorbet palate cleanser. I had the chicken jackie (apparently a popular style amongst their dishes), which was good, but I felt it could have used something more in the area of flavor. While you do get a lot of food, prices are a bit steep, but I guess that is to be expected in Wildwood?
