Alexander's is a typical family diner. Food and service is pretty good. This place is not too far away from I-90 or Route 72.

Excellent updates to the restaurant! Interior is modern and food is way better than a regular diner without the trendy prices.

We usually stop at this place for breakfast when taking a car trip starting early morning to Wisconsin or points northwest. Generally fast service and good good for a formula type restaurant. Easy on/off location convenient to I-90, but you will get stuck for another local toll. read more

I'm really glad I don't live near Elgin because I would be a regular at Alexanders. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and they do no disappoint. I ate here two days in a row this weekend - I sat at the bar both times as I was eating alone. First off, very updated restaurant and people are not crammed together as many places will do. The first day I had the Butcher Block skillet meal. My eggs were slightly more done than I ordered but not enough to send it back. Very tasty dish. Day two I had their basic egg dish with sausage - it was delicious. They also have screwdrivers with fresh squeezed OJ so I was able to get plenty of vitamin C this weekend. ;-) Also, I came at rush hour and the service fast and friendly. Sunday's meal had a nice pianist playing as an accompaniment - nice touch Alexander's! read more

Alexander's is righ up the street from where I work so I visit this establishment often. I've tryed several things on their menu and I have yet to find a favorite. The reason for this is that everything I've ordered there has peen phenomenally delicious. Some of my favorites include the meatloaf, veggie burger, fish tacos, and many more. You seariously cant find a bad meal at this place. The employees are nice and the place is always clean. I STRONGLY suggest that if you have a chance to try Alexander's that you take advantage of the opportunity. The portions are filling and the food is seemingly healthier. Nicely remodeled with updated furniture. Light and bright makes it inviting and a pleasant environment. Have eaten here many times over the years and they have always delivered a solid breakfast! Make client who is elderly eats omelettes made with egg beaters much different than egg whites alone however this place does not carry eggbeaters which many elderly need for their diets not very many of them especially the ones I know as a caregiver in their 80s and up like egg whites alone so let's think about them and offer egg beaters so considering this I requested after the waitress suggested the egg whites that instead of two egg whites is listed on the menu mix one egg white and one whole egg it will still be healthier than regular eggs and closer to egg beater's Soule what they brought her was literally a scrambled egg white and next to it on the other side of the plate was One whole egg scrambled seriously it's that hard to understand your crack the egg poured into your bowl cracked the second day only put the egg whites in with the egg you previously cracked mix it together cook them so she did like the whole egg of course not that she supposed to eat it just that way but the egg white part she did not like and I don't blame herIt would be a nice option to add those choices onto the menu it's one simple item that could be added substitute eggs for egg whites or egg beatersOther than that I had an omelette which was pretty good I opted for the herb roasted potatoes instead of hashbrowns they would've been really good had the potatoes been washed properly you shouldn't see Roots popping out of your potatoesThose should be automatically removed if you're cleaning it properly plus I ate three pieces and left the rest because it did taste dirty like they were not clean I think you can do a bit better than that read more

This place was horrible. Went in for a late lunch on a Friday. Our server was slow. When he got to the table we found out he could barely speak English. I ordered a margarita off the menu. It came after 5 minutes and was just cheap tequila and super sweet margarita mix. I ordered the Mac and cheese with 2 sides. My food can out with out sides. I asked about them and then waited almost 5 minutes for him to come back and tell me that my meal did not come with sides, after he has asked what sides I wanted with my food. He finally came back with one of the sides so i settled for it. As we ate we had to listen to 2 waiters have a loud discussion with the manager or owner about how the $3 tip he recievered was too low. I tried this place a while ago and I would be just fine if I never went back. The food we ordered sounded great on the menu, but once we picked it up we had second thoughts. The salad was soaking wet, and the dressing was too runny and bland. Chicken tenders I ordered for the kids were dry and hardly edible. None of the food we ordered was very good, and we were left feeling ripped off. That was my first impression, and I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. read more

The New Alexander's Cafe is a REAL disappointment. With the re-decoration came higher prices, smaller menu and smaller portions. Their best items are gone!!! No more are the BBQ Ribs, No more is the Country Fried Chicken, No more is the Liver and Onions. They even ruined the garlic dressing, which I used to consider the best in three counties, now it is very vinagry, and hardly no taste of garlic. Finally the Chicken fingers, no longer beer battered, now it is a buttermilk batter that made the Chicken Fingers taste soggy, and not crisply. They now have a full bar which is the center piece of this new creation, with an notoriously loud bartender to boot. His laughter is "Wicked"!!! I know it is the same owners, very experienced restauranteurs, but don't know what possessed them on this change! read more

I dont like to write bad reviews, and im hoping for this restaurants sake this was an off day. Today i brought my girlfriend and her parents to alexanders for mothers day. Upon arrival i immediately noticed the fresh remodel and was quite impressed, even having never been there before. My girlfriend and i arrived first, and took a seat at the bar. The bartender appeared more concerned with sidework than taking a drink order. I really didnt give it much thought. Then we sat down for dinner. The menu was nice and reasonably priced . I had the meatloaf which was very good. No complaints about the food whatsoever. The service on the other hand was not so great. It started with an incomplete drink order then a long overdue check back. Industry standard is two bites or two minutes. Then finaly the bread we asked for arrived after we finished eating with a lame excuse. Ill give them one more chance. read more

My parents and I ate at Alexander's for years when I would visit them. I always loved it. On a recent visit to my brother I stayed across from the restaurant and decided to eat there for old times sake. One word: yum! First, the remodel looks great. Very modern and clean-lined. Second, service was wonderful. Third, food was tasty. Had the prime rib French dip and it was amazing. Obviously roasted on site. Fries were hit and fresh and they serve real Coke. Whenever we're in town & staying at the hotels nearby we stop at Alexander's for their awesome Biscuits & Gravy. The biscuits are so fluffy & light with a nice peppery, creamy, sausage gravy... it ruins it for us when we order it anywhere else. I've also enjoyed their fish tacos for lunch. read more

Glad to see the remodeling but wish the Superior coffee, the breakfast croissant, the fried chicken, the ribs and the $1 desserts would come back on the menu. The new managers manners also leave a lot to be desired. I wish the owner, who is a very friendly guy could see how this manager conducts himself when interacting with the customers. Every time I come to West Dundee for work I eat here! It has a great atmosphere and friendly service no matter if you sit at the bar or in a booth. I have gotten the schnitzel and spatzle, which the schnitzel is the size of your plate! Delicious! I've also gotten the turkey, spinach, and artichoke panini where the flavors blend perfectly! Also if you like French onion soup their flavor and melted to perfection cheese will not disappoint. And one of my favorites is the Asian wrap with ahi tuna. It's light crisp refreshing and filling all at the same time! They also have a great selection of beer and wines to pair with your food. Last October they had an Octoberfest type of special menu with German foods like the brats and schnitzels with specialty German beers. It is definitely a place to check out. read more

We drove 30 minutes for breakfast and it was well worth the drive! I had the Apple Cider Donut French Toast, which was as ridiculously delicious as it sounds. I only ate half of it because it was such a large amount of food, but I took the rest home for breakfast tomorrow. We will return soon. read more

Ok, we went back for dinner again and we're just as happy as the first time!! The food was awesome again, but again our server was Mike and he is just the BEST! My husband and I both agreed he was our favorite server of ALL TIME (and we travel for weeks out of the year all around the country). Great food! I wish I could remember our servers name, either Lexi or Lori or something similar to that. She was so wonderful! I'm extremely allergic to cinnamon, so a lot of times I have to be careful in breakfast places. I told my server that, and she said she'd ask the kitchen if they would be ok making French toast on an unused skillet - was no problem at all!
