    Banana bread French toast

Alexander's was a great cafe spot with quick service and good food. Tried: banana bread French toast, butcher block skillet, breakfast tacos Loved: the breakfast tacos dish was the most loved in our group Liked: the banana bread French toast tasted just like warm French toast, without much batter on it.

    Chorizo breakfast burrito with fries

The menu is expansive. With that being said I'm not sure I made the best decision with the Chorizo breakfast burrito. It was presented well. Sliced avocado on top, Cholula Crema as well. When I dug into however there was a lot of folded tortilla, not a lot of tasty chorizo. The restaurant itself is large and updated. The hostess lady who gives you your 'trash bucket' sends a weird vibe however. All in all a brunch/breakfast joint with an big menu you just have to throw your dart at and hope you hit a bullseye

Alexanders Cafe never disappoints. It's my favorite choice for breakfast in the Elgin area and I've been going there for almost two decades. The food is consistently delicious made with fresh, quality ingredients. This past Saturday, I thought I would try something new & different. I usually order the skillets but this time, I ordered an omelette instead. I'm somewhat picky with omelettes because most places overcook the eggs but I thought I'd try one there. I got the Cali (Applewood smoked bacon, avocado, tomatoes, scallions and Havarti cheese) and I was blown away! All of the ingredients married very well together and the omelette was light and fluffy. I chose the herb roasted potatoes because I love them more than the hash browns. Sourdough toast dry because I prefer to spread my own butter and jam. It was cold out so my beverage of choice was hot tea. Our server asked if I wanted black tea. I asked what my options were and she brought out this beautiful arrangement of a brand called Tea Forte. I'd never even heard of them before but I fell in love with their signature pyramid infuser!! The ambiance is typical of a breakfast cafe. It was a busy morning so a bit loud but that's common for breakfast. The restaurant itself is cozy, bright & cheery. Comfortable seats in the booth. Service was outstanding. Our server was always available without being overbearing. He wasn't there when we arrived but as we were leaving, there was a pianist performing in the waiting area (which consisted of a fireplace (can't remember if it was real or not) & cozy chairs. That brought a nice touch to the morning!

This was half of the order .. since we shared.

Amazing breakfast! Huge selection. Great service. Most are big enough to share and you can get the fancy pancakes for small unchange. They service mimosas and bloodymarys. They had lunch food but i was interested in breakfast.

I never leave reviews on places but i come here often and every single time it's great. food is always delicious, service is always great and the portions are huge + filling. The bussers are also consistently keeping the restaurant clean. Def a family staple.

Had the pleasure of eating here when I was in Elgin and it was sooo pleasant. It was normal people having conservations kind of loud, you could still hear the music. The staff was all so friendly. The mimosa flight was delicious and so was the food. The service was a tiny bit slow at times but nothing too bad. Would definitely recommended.

    Classic egg Benedict

Inside is clean and seasonally decorated, stuff service is ok, and the food is good as well. Very traditional brunch/breakfast American restaurant. Their egg Benedict was nailed with melted York inside but their pancake was very dry.

Cons- transactions made with a card have a fee. I also understand businesses have to do this or they lose out. Usually $3-4 dollar minimum. This place charges $7 dollar minimum. So while I'm sitting there a lady wanted a candy bar. That's it and had her card but didn't want anything else. So she's out of a treat to eat while she watches her grandchildren play hockey. The amount of over charge on just a hotdog is robbery. I asked for a hotdog and how much they cost. $3.75. Not bad. Was thinking maybe to get a Chicago style instead and the majority of places that make them charge maybe1-2 dollars more. The worker behind the counter says $8 !!! They explain that it's because of all the toppings and all. $5 dollars more for a small amount of toppings that make the Chicago style dog?? Out of all the times I've came here for games, tournaments, etc. it makes sense why I see the majority of families with food from outside sources.

This is both for a quick concession stand purchase and at their a sit down restaurant, which is less of a problem. It's completely unreasonable and feels like they're just taking advantage of customers. Do better.

Today, we visited with 5 people total (one was a little kid). 3 of 5 arrived first, checked in with the hostess, and were told 5-10 minutes wait. The remaining two arrived shortly after check-in. So all party was there. After waiting for 20 minutes, we noticed a larger group the came after us got seated before. So we approached to ask about our turn, the unfriendly manager said that because there were specific table size, and a booth would not fit us. So we have to wait. A few minutes later, we saw a group of 5 was called, who also came after us. I went up to the hostess and asked again. At that point, the hostess seemed to not able to find our name on the list, and the same manager approached and used not so patience tone with me. I calmly explained that at this point, we have waited for almost 30 minutes (when we were told 5-10 minutes initially), and when many people (4 or more people) came after us got seated. At this point, the manager impatiently said we there was a booth, and we said we would take it as one of the five was a little kid. She grudgingly showed us to the booth, and along the way mumbling that the restaurant was full and all. Now, the food wasn't that great either. When our food arrived, they were lukewarm at best. It was as if they were sitting for a while. Again we understand when the restaurant gets busy, there is waiting. We also understand there could be a mix up during busy time. The manager never acknowledge anything, instead we were made to feel as if we were unreasonable. They just lost 5 customers today.

Just had breakfast there today and we waited longer than normal to get seated, although there were plenty of empty booths and tables. Once we were seated we waited approximately 10 minutes to be acknowledged by a server. Food was decent, but this is the second time in a row that the over medium eggs I ordered came to the table considerably overcooked. Also disappointed that when you order sourdough toast with your breakfast entree that you get one slice instead of two. I requested a second slice and was charged an additional $3.25! Our future visits will be scaled back considerably, considering their current quality and value for the money. Their prices continue to go north while the overall experience goes south. Too bad, but they seem to be resting on their past laurels.
