Hey, I'm writing this mostly for the Dawson family to see but feel free to read to know what you're signing up for. I'm 16 now but I attended for two years a while back. As we all know, you're in a lawsuit because you let a kid get brutally sa'd on a school trip, not the first time you've gotten in trouble with the law though huh. Your response was interesting, saying that you didn't know what was happening. The weird thing is you did though, you knew exactly what was happening but you didn't want to get your little donations to go down. "dismissing accusations that the school fostered a "boys will be boys" atmosphere and victim-blamed the student." My sister once reported that a kid said "I'd punch you if you weren't a girl" and your P.E. Teacher tried to make her feel grateful he was "being nice" sounds oddly similar for something you don't do though huh. Also coincidental you only defend people based on how much their parents pay. This school was our best decision EVER! It is a process to get in there and just because you can afford that school it won't guarantee you a spot. They really are on the mission to create educational community, so before you apply read their mission statement. Our daughter,Sarah had a wonderful first day! She told us that she really liked how the school day was organized and really enjoyed how approachable and helpful her teachers were towards her. My little niece went here for a minute. You know I got the cheddar to afford this spot and here's my thoughts. Not like my old PS Whateva in the BX. Naw. My sister and nieces out there like the Jeffersons kickin it in Summerlin. I popped in for a visit. They was happy to take my money no questions asked. And my niece on her way to becoming the next AOC, believe that. This school is a disaster. Not too big on diversity if you feel me. The principal speaks with a Russian accent. Whatdidyousay? There's some young boy band vice principal running around like he's trying out too hard to make varsity. Whateva. They repeating "Challenge Success" when you hang around there which is more like "Chumps and Suckas" if you stay. The teachers are not into they jobs. No homework either. No way my pride and joy was getting into any good high school with the training from this here facility. This is like summer camp except it ain't summer. And they think they are major players up in here from the parents to the staff. Desert Inn is a long ass way from Park Avenue. Please. Save your money. Skip dawson and get a real school. This review is only for their monthly curious cubs toddler class on Saturdays. The teacher that runs the program is so great, I only wish when my girls are old enough to attend her regular classroom. The class is only held once a month, she would setup different activities in different areas of the early education school building so we can play in different areas (indoor, outdoor and gym), it is perfect for toddlers. One hour non stop fun! She puts in so much love and efforts into the program, words cannot describe how grateful I am. Totally worth the $20 session fee! read more

It's unfortunate that this school started its nose dive thanks to its past inept Headmaster Mr. Imperi. Dawson's middle school alone lost 25 teachers last year. Most teachers that could not find alternative schools to transfer then, are now actively looking to bail out this year. The finance department runs this school, not the educators. It's primary goal is, what they can cut out of education, and how they can cut back on staff, and programs in place that made Alexander Dawson a great school in the recent past. They had fund raisers to buy a school bus, it was supposed to be safe alternative for the children with seat belts. After the purchase, the bus was sold within months, not even making the full school year. Conveniently, parents that funded the purchase were kept in the dark about the sale of the bus. The annual fund raiser "Gala" has been telling failure for three consecutive years, as contributions are significantly down. Most parents are fully aware this school, and the fine programs it had in place have been reduced to a shadow of its past. The new Headmaster has been a complete failure as a person, and or an administrator. He is referred to as Mr. Bean among parents. As he is regarded not much more above a level of an arrogant clown. It's amazing this schools board has been fast asleep as Mr. "Bean" has been actively ravaging this fine school with out of control arrogance. Expect more of Alexander Dawson's fine teachers to transfer out yet again this year. Sad to see anything, let alone a school take such a dive. All you need to do is look at the attrition rate of this once great schools fine staff, to realize how far The Alexander Dawson School has fallen. With so many departures this school can only hope to attract the rejects of the Clark County School system. UPDATED: ( 2015 ) The unfortunate trend of teacher mass exit continues in the demise of this once great school. All four first grade teachers are walking away, along with a significant number of other teachers from various grades. The long time curriculum coordinator is also joining those leaving in disgust. Now that parents are realizing what they are getting for their tuition. Significant number of students are also leaving Dawson this year... Expect major cuts as a number of classrooms will be empty. The school board is still fast asleep on the job, as they were when M. Imperi was actively dismantling this school to its present level of wide spread incompetence. UPDATE II : On Monday the headmaster was escorted out of the school property. Now the school is on damage control trying to win back the teachers that submitted their resignation this year. In this mess, the children are all but forgotten. We can all thank the incompetent Michael Imperi for recommending someone just as inept as he was. Does the board have the intellect to bring a competent headmaster? So far they have been miserable failures and because of them all of the quality staff is long gone. UPDATE III : Heavy handed damage control....Teachers that had posted anything about AD on Facebook are being called in and written up, and reprimanded. Dawson does not want you to know anything... We didn't know this school existed! So happy we found a place for our daughter to thrive in. She has become a changed young lady. She is excited to go to school where the environment is all about critical thinking and teaching to the individual child. I've had a one on one with the Headmaster prior to getting in and I felt that she is consistent in her role as a pioneer for change and excellence. We applied for a scholarship and was able to afford the tuition. The teachers have all been rooting my my kiddo on and communication has been ongoing and helpful. Homework is bare because it allows more time for family time, I don't have to wrangle her into doing 2 hours of home each night after school. She is also in Orchestra this year and I can't believe how well she has picked up the violin as well as track and flag football. She's making friends and having "hang outs", she won't let me call them "play dates " anymore‍. Overall, we have been pretty blessed with our experience and look forward to another several years with Dawson. Go Bears! read more

My daughter is in her 4th year at Alexander Dawson, and my husband and I are so grateful for the opportunities she's had in both Early Childhood and Lower School. Not only is my daughter a full grade-level above where she should be in core subjects like Literacy, Writing, and Math, she is also several grade levels above her non-Dawson peers when it comes to her social-emotional intelligence, her character, her problem solving and STEAM skills, and her awareness of the core issues of our time. When my daughter started at Dawson, she was a shy introvert. While she's still an introvert, now she loves speaking up in her classes, flourishes as a public speaker and performer, and easily makes friends. Alexander Dawson deeply cares about its students and their families, goes above and beyond providing support (academically and socially-emotionally), and we've made amazing, lifelong friends with families who share or educational and social values. Parents, be very aware, this school is a completely disorganized mess. When you have any issue the administrators (those who are left), become instantly defensive and treat you as though you have no right to have a say in your child's education. There is no oversight, and the "interim" headmaster 2015-2016 was a complete joke. They'll tell you in late May they want to hold your child back and give you no choice in the matter, with no administrator to appeal to. While some of the teachers are caring, the rest are just there to hobnob with the richest parents (and accordingly treat the richest children best). The turnover in teachers has been insane and there's no consistency or support for the kids. Save yourself THOUSANDS of dollars and find a better, more stable, nurturing environment for your children. read more

We have two children at Alexander Dawson one in lower school 2014-2015 and another on middle school going her third year. I have read the previous posting and I am gobsmacked of the comments. Our family and children have nothing but great things to say about the school, this school and teachers have been great. I think more parent involvement and school spirit would be welcomed though especially During some difficult times for the school whether it be someone retiring or change of headmaster or teacher. People need to understand Las Vegas is very transite town after 16 years, trust me we know. the average person is here 2 to 3 years. That being said we think the administration, the board, parents who are positive in the outlook of the school and our child's future and not demanding of it and expect the teachers to parent the kids. The teachers and administration in both the lower school and middle school have been simply AMAZING! It is fun, my kids are excited to go to school and upset about summer. That, I find is an astonishing thing to be able to accomplish to be able to enlighten in kids. The excitement and interest in learning. I am delighted when I get nice emails about my children, personally from the teachers about how awesome your kids are and really let your child believe anything is possible and do try to make the children think outside the box. Especially in a world of negativity. It is refreshing. We are greatful, for Dawson, the teachers and all the opportunities available to our kids. I find it interesting in previous posts the updates... Which shows they are still there? If your so unhappy why not leave then find what suits you. They say you will find whatever you seek....even negative or positive. We seek positive and would highly recommend this school and all the principles it teaches, and the super amazing teachers and administration, keep up the great job!
