We had a very unfortunate experience with Alek. He is now with Wells Fargo. Though he was able to offer a very attractive interest rate, his customer support was terrible. He acted like all was going smoothly even as things seemed to go up in flames. From day one he seemed to have a poor grasp of our buying situation and how to handle it (though a father buying with his children is not uncommon). He wasted a lot of time during our short escrow before even beginning his side of the process. He was minimally communicative and what messages we got were disorganized and hard to decipher. He was dismissive of our concerns and in general seemed to have more confidence than competence. We tried to give Alek the benefit of the doubt throughout the process, but when the seller's real estate agent sends an email saying "It's day 7 of escrow and I haven't heard anything from your lender - I'm assuming something is terribly wrong with your loan?!?" you know something is not right, so we started looking at backup lenders. 3 days later, after giving Alek every chance to right the ship, we were forced to change lenders on day 10 for our 21 day escrow. It made the already stressful process of home buying so much worse. Two days later our new lender had us further through the process than Alek had gotten us in 10 days. I know my situation may not have been Alek's norm because Alek helped a friend with his mortgage and he had an easy and painless experience, but for us, I honestly think that if we had stayed with Wells Fargo and Alek, we would have lost the house and our $21,000 deposit. read more

Alek was recommended to us by one of close friends and I am glad he did so! Alek gave us an unmatchable deal for our mortgage which was better than what any of the other banks were giving to us. Beyond that Alek was helpful to us throughout the whole process till our closing which happened on time! Alek also kept us informed the file progress throughout and was responsive even on weekends when we had questions. One of the thing that we do to to understand that beyond the loan officer, there is a lot of banking process w.r.t underwriting and appraisal which a loan officer doesn't control or influence. The whole process requires patience and working closely with the loan officer always to help understand the process. I was very disappointed at his service. I reached out for the refinance program at Citi Bank. Alek provided a competitive rate in the very beginning. I told him my situation very clearly in written words from day 1 and he said it's not a problem. After I submitted my application and Citi bank checked my credit, the process became extremely unpleasant. With numerous excuses, he kept saying that he will work on my file. However, after FOUR weeks, my loan application is still not submitted and his response is very slow. Eventually he told me that they can't do the refinance for me based on one condition which I told him five weeks ago in written words. Completely wasted one and a half months for nothing. Save some time and stay away from this lender. read more

When it comes to closing at time, Alek doest not support really well. Consulting is poor with delayed or no responses. He fails at showing good customer experience. I was terribly disappointed with the services and follow up of Alek Sarkis, a loan officer at Citi Bank in Burbank, CA as well as his Manager, Sam Tabbara, who never returned my calls. Alek assured my Buyer they could process and close escrow on a home in San Jose, CA. within a 3 week period and although I know delays can happen in loan processing and the underwriters continued requests, it was his lack of good communication that was the most frustrating part. During the last 10 days as things got more delayed, he just completely stopped communicating with me because he had no good answers to anything. It was then I reached out to his manager to escalate things and he never even bothered to return my call. Our Buyer was forced to move out of her condo because she had rented it and needed to put her stuff in storage and get a hotel room for many nights for her husband, her and their daughter to have a place to stay and the Sellers of the home they were buying, missed out on a purchase of a new home because of the delay in closing on their home. I've been a full-time licensed Realtor for almost 40 years and the one thing that angers me the most in trying to work with others involved in a escrow transaction is when they just stop responding to requests for updates and explanations. When that happens, it usually means they are trying to either cover something up or they are trying to buy more time and I find that completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Transparency is ALWAYS the best policy!!! I counseled my Buyer that he had a responsibility to answer to them because they were his customer, but even they were beyond frustrated with his lame excuses. Ultimately, we did close escrow (7 days late) and their delays caused both our Buyer and the Seller great inconvenience and costs, so for that, I feel compelled to give a less than stellar review to this particular Citi Bank branch in Burbank, CA. read more

This lender lied to my buyer, told them what they wanted to hear to get their business at the start of the transaction when they could have gone with a lender that was truthful, then couldn't deliver on his promises, strung them along for a month and then sent a 1 line email their loan was denied. Beware anything this lender says. He is not responsive when it matters. Because of him my client won't be getting the house they wanted.
