Alegria is a great little neighborhood shop on 16th. It's walking distance from where I live, yet I hadn't ever checked it out, so I decided to pop in and see what it's all about today. I wasn't exactly certain what to expect considering the fact that the signs out front say "leather & art" and "accessories & gifts." I don't know of too many places that carry leather and art. Anyhow, as it turns out Alegria actually carries a wide assortment of very neat things. They have one of the largest selections of the infamous "37206" bumper stickers I've come across. You know the ones..."37206: Over the river and through the hood"; "37206: Do you know where your lawnmower is?" That sort of thing. But in addition to cutesy bumper stickers, they also have hand-made bracelets and necklaces, hats, women's clothing, wallets and more. There were some really cool wool felt hats for just $20 that I would have bought were it not for my massive melon head. Bil (the guy who runs the place) makes leather items, from sandals and jewelry to belt buckles and guitar straps. There are some great snap coin purses and wallets, and while some of the items are a bit pricey, the craftsmanship is clearly top-notch. I LOVE Alegria! Awesome place to buy gifts for other people and uh, yeah myself. I got myself a beautiful silk scarf that I adore. They also sell Hobo purses. Besides purses and scarves they sell jewelry and other accessories. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful! He left me alone to look but also provided interesting tidbits of information. Seriously, I'm super glad I found Alegria. I may not have bought a lot of clothes in Nashville but hot damn have I been able to properly accessorize myself. Thank you Alegria! read more

Love Alegria! It's tucked away in East Nashville, off the beaten path, but so worth visiting. It's right next to Sweet 16th too! The owner, Bil Breyer, is such a nice guy. Always greets you warmly when you come in the door, is quick to assist with any questions you have or suggest gift ideas, and then will wrap your gift for you!! I visit Alegria mainly to buy gifts for others. But I must admit, I LOVE Hardwear Merry jewelry, and this is a great place to get it! He also has cute other jewelry, bags, clothes, candles, soaps, leather goods, and all sorts of other cute little things! I also love the fact that so much in there is hand made by someone local. I found Alegria in my hunt for East Nashville pride bumper stickers. My car is complete now that it has its label "37206: My zip can beat up your zip." I was also pleased to discover that Alegria has so much more to offer as well. It is located right in the middle of the neighborhood surrounding 5 points with a cute garden outside and friendly faces inside. They carry lots of great gift items as well as clothing and accessories all made by locals. The jewelry collection is especially gorgeous and reasonably priced. (There's this great yellow beaded necklace if you're ever in the mood to buy me something...) I definitely recommend stopping buy for a chance to meet and support your East side neighbors. read more

Funky shopping fun in East Nashville. I love this little boutique. It has a great selection of bangles, bags, rings, scarves, necklaces, hats, leather items - everything that is fun to try on and admire on yourself, or to put a polished look together. Also the perfect place to find a unique gift. I appreciate the fact that the shop carries items in a broad price range, so you can invest in a high quality leather bag or find some fun jewelry that won't put a dent in your budget. I bought a leather cuff with turquoise-like stone and some large matte gold earrings, both made by Hardwear Merry. And that is my last reason for loving this store: it is filled with products and items made locally. I actually met the woman who designed the jewelry I bought while I was there. For me, that makes the items more meaningful. Plus, I like supporting the artisans (and retailers) in my community. read more

Alegria is a great place to get gifts for yourself and for others! No woman is going to turn her nose up at a brand new leather Hobo bag or wallet. Alegria has a bit of everything from women's dresses and jewelry to men's shirts and wallets to home decor, soaps, candles and cards. I don't know anyone who hasn't met Bil, everyone loves him and rightfully so. Bil's quality taste follows through with his hand selected pieces for the shop. Bil is also known for his craftsmanship with making leather goods such as belts and cuff bracelets. I never run out of things from Alegria to put on my wishlist! read more

Shopping in East Nashville has really gone to the next level, and Bill at Alegria is the retail pioneer that has been at it since the beginning. I am not even much of a shopper, but his leather bags are gorgeous, and his funky statues and other art from Brazil are really fun. A lot of stores I go into and am not interested in anything, but here the small space is packed with cool, unique things for your house (wall-hangings, Rosie the Rivetter bookends)... it can be overwhelming (in a good way). read more
