Alpha Rain Metal Roofing - Historic Church with Copper Standing Seam Roof

I am extremely happy with the roof itself and the way it was installed. What I was not happy about was the error in the contract in their addition that ended up costing me an additional $8000 that I was not expecting and to be honest had I known it was going to be $8000 more than the bottom line showed I probably would not have had this particular roof put on. I thought it was unprofessional that their contract was incorrect. I was advised by many people not to pay the additional money, that had I hired a lawyer I would not have been responsible for the extra amount because it was not the amount for which I signed. But I paid it because I felt that I was morally responsible because the correct amounts were listed they just weren't added correctly and so the bottom number was incorrect and I felt that I should've read the contract better and done the math myself instead of trusting them that their numbers were correct. My feeling was they should've eaten half of the $8000 for their error and I tried to get them to accept responsibility but they said they'd be losing money if I didn't pay the full $8000..... Yeah right, give me a break. So, the bottom line is.... Yes they did great work and they were nice guys to work with. I would just advise you to read everything and make sure you know what you're signing. Up until this bombshell that we owe an additional $8000 (and let me tell you that is a lot of money to us) the process was very enjoyable but this left a really bad taste in our mouth for the company and I would not recommend them because of it.

I can't speak highly enough of Alpha Rain and would be happy to be a reference. They installed a…read morestanding seam metal roof roughly a decade ago on my circa 1970's built home, and I love it. I say 1970's because with an addition on my home, the structure of the roof on that part is rather odd, likely not what you would have on a new build. There were no hidden costs or anything. Recently there were a couple of leaks (after a decade of the installation), likely a result of the pitch of my roof along one ridge and the direction of wind driven rain; or maybe because my house is cursed with problems in general. Even after that many years, Brandy was very responsive and fixed the issues promptly at no charge. In my experience, rarely (if ever) will a contractor do that. I see a few of the negative reviews and I have a very hard time believing that they are accurate. The workmanship was excellent and Brandy was/is very professional and respectful. If you want a metal roof, Alpha Rain is a top-notch company to do the work and rely on to address unforeseen problems.

Macbeth Roofing and Exteriors - All new James Hardie siding and trim, as well as new windows, doors and gutters for a great customer of ours in Earlysville, VA

They gave me an accurate estimate and were very knowledgeable about the selection of materials available. I learned more about soffits and gutters, siding and roofing materials than I ever thought possible. They had a great crew who worked diligently every single day until each job was completed. They made adjustments where I wanted them and answered all of my questions. They did an excellent job of removing all of the trash. You wouldn't even have known they were ever there. Every single component when finished was absolutely excellent. I am so happy with what they did.

Had all new pre-painted Hardee Plank siding, new windows, doors (both double and single), eaves, seamless gutters with leaf guards. 21 new doors and windows that work flawlessly. Window shutters as well. Job was completed in less than 3 weeks to my 110% satisfaction. These guys are experienced professionals that pay attention to every detail and the customer. They adhered to every detail of the Hardee plank specifications and even installed all my new exterior lights. Ripped off all cedar siding, then encased entire house with plywood, then Hardee moisture wrap and taping, finally the Hardee siding and trim. Thorough cleanup. Very highly recommended. It is very important to go with a company that does it all. The others only did siding or doors and windows but not both, but it's very important that both get done simultaneously to have the perfect outcome. Next job is deck replacement, going with Macbeth again, wont go anywhere else.

I wish we could give this company a zero. We signed a contract to build a new home with Jim…read moreGearing and Westco in 2019. It is now nearly 2025 and we have no home. What we do have is an incomplete home with LIENS from contractors because Jim did not pay them. We know he did not pay for the building permits. We know he did not pay the on site porta potty vendor. We have had items like flooring, cabinets, and appliances in storage for 2 years or more. They could not be installed because Jim could not pay his portion so that completed work would be paid from the construction draw. We terminated his contract (it was already 4 years late on delivery) and are considering legal action. The problem is that we can't get an accounting on what has been done or any response. Believe me we tried. He dodged meetings, he did not respond to phone calls, he did not respond to emails and he just lied about what was being done. It was always, "I'll get it done by Christmas" or "it will be finished in 60 days." Our house will be finished because we had to take over as the main contractor. We had to pay off all the leins Jim left behind (and never bothered to mention). I am happy to go into painstaking detail about how horrible working with Jim Gearing and Westco is. I would not wish this experience on anyone.

Westco has reneged on a signed and notarized punchlist and on a signed and notarized warranty. They…read morehave repeatedly lied to us and have repeatedly broken promises and commitments. Working with them has been a three-year nightmare. Westco made no attempt to keep to a schedule, even though my husband and I were expending money on construction loan interest and rent while they were working. The foreman spent most of his time working on his own house (which appears to use the same type of materials as our house). Jim Gearing, the president of Westco, kept promising to fix things. For instance, he promised for five months to fix the roof of the woodworking shop for my husband. However, he did not keep these promises, and we finally just stopped paying him until work was completed. We refinanced from a construction loan to a regular mortgage in July 2011. We had an agreement signed by Jim Gearing and notarized that he would complete the punchlist and honor the home warranty. However, he has not done either, and he does not return our phone calls or emails. I have waylaid him in his office three times, and he has promised to send someone to fix the problems. However, no one comes. We insisted that Westco fix the badly aligned fireplace backdrop. His workers fixed it but took the fireplace screen, installed the glass backwards, scraped the black paint around the fireplace, and left the tray and screen in disarray. There are many other examples of where "fixes" have resulted in my husband and I having to do even more extensive repairs. In addition to lying and breaking promises on a regular basis, the builder way over-charged and under-delivered. We are now having to redo many of the items at our own expense (e.g., stripping and restaining doors, scrubbing paint and compound off floors, replanting trees, etc.) I have repeatedly asked Jim Gearing for a list of contractors, in case we need to contact them in the future. He says, "You just call me" (except that he doesn't return calls) or "I don't remember."
