Moving onto the apple fry donut with cinnamon sugar. So fresh and delicious. It's a fry cake hence it's fried. But it's not heavy greasy taste etc. I bought some salad dressing and the frozen hand pies. Very friendly and helpful group. All seem very enthusiastic about the products and the customer If it couldn't get any better they had free donuts on the counter. Today was the first day of opening for the season.

I thought it was charming that they had a self serve, bakery filled with things like apple cider donuts and a variety of cookies. The staff was all very friendly and the entire setting oozed fall energy. They offer a soup of the day, a variety of produce, regional alcohol, and some baked treats. And it was fine! Better than fine because the blueberries were so good! I had no complaints. But now they've leveled up. Now it's not just good blueberries but good ambiance as well! They've converted another smaller building next to it as a storefront and it's chock full of blueberry based goodies like jams, jellies, baked goods, dips, mustards, beverages, etc. Way more to choose from! They also sell ice cream and added a play structure to help entertain the kiddos that get a little bored of picking (smart). The day of our visit it was around 100 degrees and humid so I was not up for picking myself. Instead I arrived ready to buy a box of pre-picked fruit in bulk like I had in the past. I walked into the cute new storefront, scanned the shelves, and panicked. There were no boxed berries to be seen! Was this no longer a thing?? U-pick only?? Why God why!? No need to panic, the really lovely woman at the counter explained to me. They just ran out because nobody wanted to pick in the heat (fair) and they had another load of blewbs (just processed and boxed) enroute and arriving at any moment, she just wasn't sure when exactly. Our time in town was limited so we decided we'd come back instead of waiting. She assured me there would be plenty available. And she was right! A couple of hours later we came back to find the coolers absolutely stocked full of 5lb boxes. I was fielding requests from the family back home to bring them some so in the end I bought 20 pounds worth. I also added a blueberry lemon coffee cake for good measure. Great visit! Wonderful changes! Lovely personnelle! And most importantly, the blueberries are still amazing. Next time I just hope it's cooler so I can get an ice cream cone that wasn't going to liquify the moment I stepped outside.

I was in need of peaches, and I figured I'd give Green Acres, an open-air market, a try. Coming in…read morethe summer, I was happy to see that most of the produce was either local or from the Midwest. There were samples of watermelon and cantaloupe out for trying, and I found myself with an Indiana watermelon in my cart, plus local peaches and tomatoes. My husband called my attention to the pies, donuts, muffins, and fry pies. I could smell that Green Acres bakes/fries some of their sweets, while they sell goods from other businesses. He bought a blueberry donut and Amish fry pie, and of the two, the blueberry donut was the better buy. Green Acres not only frosted it but also added some blueberries on top. Not bad! Though they didn't make it into the cart, Green Acres also carries meat, eggs, flowers, soaps, succulents, adirondack chairs, and decor for your yard. While this won't be in my regular rotation, I'm grateful to know that Green Acres is available. I may pop in during the fall for pumpkins.

I bought two quarts of strawberries in June and thought I would get the larger ones but they were not very sweet. Wish I would have purchased the smaller ones. Also bought pound cake that Verhage Farms makes and it was very good The vegetables and fruit are a little pricey and I wont buy the fruit that stays outside in the sun until sold. The handicap parking is far away for me. There are two close spots to the right of the doors, and that is not a difficult walk * SO MANY KINDS of everything: apples, squash, pumpkins, well, you know Michigan harvests.
