Coffee is strong and refreshing and I also really enjoyed my BLT and cider donuts. It's definitely a popular (and small) spot, so expect a bit of a crowd in the morning. Fifers is also solid if you want to pick up some fresh produce for your beach house and save the extra 15-20 minute traffic filled trip to all of the main grocery stores. I arrived about eight minutes before opening and found a line already stretching along the side of Crooked Hammock. Like anyone else, I walked to the end of the line. As I crossed the parking lot with my dog on a leash, the woman stationed at the entrance looked directly in our direction, yet said nothing. Only after the line began moving and I had waited to reach the entrance was I told that dogs are not allowed in the market. I was then directed to a sign posted at the entrance. I explained that because I had joined the line from the back, I never passed the entrance and therefore never saw the sign. When I asked why no one had mentioned the policy when I first joined the line, I was told they hadn't seen me. That was surprising, since I had clearly seen the attendant looking our way. This is an outdoor venue, and as I was approaching the market I had even seen another leashed dog walking through the parking lot, so there was nothing to suggest pets weren't permitted. I completely respect the market's right to have a no-dogs policy. My disappointment isn't with the rule itself, but with how it was communicated. After waiting in line, it was frustrating to be turned away when a simple heads-up as I arrived could have saved everyone the inconvenience. If dogs are prohibited, the market should post signs where people join the line or at multiple locations around the parking area so visitors can see the policy before waiting. I had every intention of supporting the local farmers, and unfortunately I left without being able to do so.

During the spring, summer & fall months, she sells beautiful vegetable, herbs and flowers at the garden one or two days during the week, and every Saturday morning at the Historic Lewes Farmer's Market All her produce is excellent - though she is renowned for her heirloom tomatoes - I think this year she has about 10 different varieties, and of course, for her arugula. She is also well known for her cut flowers, which she usually puts together in lovely bouquet arrangements for her customers. During the off-season when the HLFM is closed, Hattie operates a weekly delivery / pickup service. In addition to the produce Hattie grows, she offers produce from many local vendors, as well as a good selection of local artisan food such as pastries, soups, breads, jams, honey, cheese, organic chicken & duck eggs, organic meats, and even fresh oysters harvested the day before from Chincoteague Bay. I applaud Hattie for doing everything she can to advance local, small sustainable farms and food artisans, and to promote the consumption of good whole food grown locally, as well as standing behind everything she sells. Plus some fresh produce for grilling and it was all wonderful. It is a great little store, very small but pretty much has about anything you could need. The store was very well stocked and had lots of small containers of different types of salads and sides at decent prices. I like that they were small so I could choose a few to see which ones I like the best. They also take Apple Pay which is always a plus for me. They only have two check out lines but they have two people working both registers so it moved pretty quickly. Great store and worth a visit.
