Throw some lettuce and tomato along with more of their house made pickles and we'd be in business! The potatoes fried in beef tallow are fire. Even ordered a couple tomato mozzarella sausage on the way out to cook at home. Overall pretty good.

I had some unexpected free time on a Monday in the middle of summer so I decided to take a trip to The Nations and see what was going on. I'd heard of BBB but I am so rarely out west that I chalked such tales up to 'that's nice; probably won't go.' I parked down the street and made my way to the building. As advertised, it's a butchery so don't expect much in the way of ambiance but you're not here for sconces and comfy seats. You're here for delicious meat. Lunch hours are brief and the regulars know the hustle so you should come prepared to know what you want and hop to it. I kept it simple: cheeseburger (no mayo), beef fat potatoes (again, no mayo) and a beer. The amount? $30. I bristled but chalked it up to the game that is new Nashville. Within an appropriate amount of time my order was ready. I donned my sunglasses and hit the patio to dig in. As I said above, the food was fine. The cheeseburger was pretty simple (so as to showcase the meat): patties, American cheese, mustard, and pickles). The sandwich looked nice (not especially large) and it tasted... fine. Not being a big red meat eater I fear the nuance of what I was tasting was a bit lost on me. Now, I have had meat that made me sit up and notice. This was not that... but I may not be the best judge. The potatoes were... fine. Fried in beef fat (before it was trendy), the execution is simple: kosher salt. Fine. I didn't think it was $30 fine but the days of Rotier's are long gone. I bussed my mess and drove home. It wasn't long before my lunch sat like a log in my belly. To be expected what with the combo of allergens I just ingested. My discomfort was of my own doing but I did wag my finger at myself for doing it to myself for the price point.* Fine. What wasn't fine was having my card overcharged. That sucked. *Yes, yes. Quality. Ingredients. Price of doing business. I know these things.

The summer months are definitely busier and have lot more vendors but I have never once been disappointed by the selection of veggies, flowers, plants, and pantry stables they have. I always grab a snack or drink to enjoy while I walk around too. Each vendor has been so kind and helpful and a lot of them have recycling programs where if you bring back their packaging you can get a discount!

The summer market is busy with lots of dog walkers and about 100 vendors. The Instagram and website are well-maintained weekly to where you can view a map and last-minute changes before you visit. Some vendors are to-go foods like coffee, empanadas, or breakfast sandwiches. Some vendors will sell you produce to cook later from meats to mushrooms. Some vendors even have pick up options for their CSA boxes during farmers market hours. You'll find all cultures represented. I've seen Korean egg sandwiches, Argentinian empanadas, Polish perogis, Japanese taiyaki, Cajun crawfish, French bakeries (highly recommend Cocorico), and Somali breakfast goodies (highly recommended The Horn). And of course good ole fashion TN meats, produce, sauces, soups, and more. Feel free to enjoy your food on the grass as a picnic or on a park bench. The farmers market organizers will be playing music from their info tent. Parking is free all around Sylvan Park neighborhood including Richland Park lots on the north and south borders of the park. You can ride a bike to park at their bike racks. While you're there, feel free to checkout a library book or hit around a tennis ball.

West Nashville Farmers Market - Small local farmers market with some great stuff. Especially loved the meat CSA and the creole diva!

Should you fancy yourself a treat, there's everything one might desire from a local market, from southern-style vegan food to freshly made cinnamon rolls and sparkling lemonade. Be aware that, considering these are smaller, home-grown vendors, some of their quantities are limited. You may want to arrive a bit earlier in the day if you have your eye on something in particular. If you're a local to the area, you will most likely see someone you know. In fact, one weekend, there were at least three families we recognized in the park! This makes your shopping experience that much more personal and pleasant, especially in pandemic times. Take a leisurely stroll through the different stalls, making small talk with strangers, sellers, and friends alike. That's my kind of Saturday. We ended up purchasing a beautiful blanket from The Nashville Blanket Project which gives a blanket to someone in need for each one purchased. It comes with an adorable "Keep Nashville Cozy" tote bag. My partner also purchased a (high premium) banana pudding in glassware that he devoured in a matter of minutes. (I'm not sure I recommend the double-digit price tag on that on, delicious as it was and vegn as it was.) All the stalls were dappled in sunlight, and the winter air felt more like a summer breeze. There must be something like magic in the air here.

Sigh. I did wish I had stopped here first! Everyone was very friendly and there was anything and everything you could ask for at a Farmer's Market! This was much more of a "bustling market" and since it is on the grass, families were able to spread out blankets and could stay to enjoy the live music! I very much enjoyed walking through and browsing, but as I had already purchased what I needed from the other farmer's market, I did not purchase anything this time around. However, I did feel that the vendors at the other location were a bit more personable and were very generous with samples and talking about what they offer. This one lacked that slightly, but overall had more of what I needed.

I checked this ALDI out when I had a day off, and I must say that, in terms of product selection,…read moreit's the best one I've seen in Nashville so far. Sure, the one by the zoo is a really good store, and the one in Bellevue (Highway 70S) is the best aesthetically. However, this one, located about a mile west of White Bridge and Charlotte, just off Charlotte, is the first one in town where I have ever seen ground bison (I bought some - it was great!). I found many of my other ALDI favorites here as well. If you haven't been to ALDI, just remember to bring a quarter and preferably also reusable bags. You'll need to put the quarter in the shopping cart to unlock it, but when you return it and lock it back, the quarter comes back out (However, at this store I found that people will be glad to just give you a quarter and take the cart so you don't have to take it back.). They charge a small fee for bags, and you bag your own groceries. However, checkout is super speedy, so I like it this way. Another note, many of the pictures that I've seen on this Yelp listing are out of date. This store, like many ALDI stores (one exception I know as of this writing - Franklin, TN - why haven't they done this??), has been significantly remodeled. I'm attaching newer pictures so you can see the difference. They even redid part of the outside of the store. It looks much nicer!
