I am so glad to have an Aldi in my small town. It's always clean and usually stocked.

    Cornucopia Natural Market & Deli

I would to start off this review by saying at I am not from Galesburg. I am from the far-off land…read moreof California, where humble shops like these don't really exist. When they do, they have competition against stores like Whole Foods who take customers from the local natural food stores, leading to the prices being marked up. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of keeping local businesses open and thriving, but I will humbly step off my soap box, and continue on to share my love for this beautiful business. As I get off the train from San Francisco and search up local restaurants, I come across Cornucopia, a hybrid business model that has both a deli and a market with great prices and a bigger selection than most stores I have seen. With curiosity in my head, and a growling stomach, I set off to walk the entire 3 minutes it takes to get to Cornucopia from the train station. I need not say the location of this place is great. The moment I walk in, I am greeted by both the delicious smell of Indian food as well as a nice woman by the name of Susan Lyon. She tells me that this is not only a family run business, but a business run by all women, and Susan (with her husband) are the founders. After our greetings and conversation, I walk to the deli where they had a fine selection of foods from sandwiches to curries. I order the coconut curry (a popular dish, from the words of the man working there) with turmeric rice, and a cup of coffee. I cannot understate the amount of flavor it has, and I highly recommend it to anyone who cannot do spicy food. I also see their selection of bulk spices, frozen meals, supplements, and everyday use items like toothpaste and shampoos. I walked out with a smile on my face, and as the cold Illinois wind hits me I feel longing to go back to the warmth of Cornucopia once again, but my train was to leave soon. I enjoyed every moment of this business, and I will always hope that they expand their business to California. If you ever are visiting Galesburg, Illinois, please make sure to go here. You will be pleasantly surprised by this humble family business. I hope my review, written on the observatory deck of the Amtrak, not only convince you to go here, but give you the little slice of life that Galesburg has to offer.

The price was so reasonable, I could hardly believe it. I can't wait to order these again the next time we are in Galesburg. Thank you, Cornucopia, for this excellent experience.

With all of the adjustments to everyday life caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, discovering that I…read morecan get sustainably-caught, small-boat harvested, wild Alaskan seafood shipped to my doorstep via this audacious little company in Galesburg, IL is probably the most positive one. Prior to last spring, you would not have been able to convince me that it made sense to spend $120-$130 a month to have 4.5 pounds of seafood shipped to me, but when our standard supply chain broke down and it was nearly impossible to get proteins at the grocery store I started to look for other options. I love seafood, so that is what I looked for first, trying a couple of "fresh from ... (name your place)" options. I dipped my toe into the Sitka Salmon Shares world by buying a "bounty sale" box of sablefish, also known as black cod. I did a side-by-side comparison of the SSS sablefish and another Alaskan seafood company that ships throughout the US and the difference in quality was astounding. I signed up for SSS's premium seafood subscription shortly thereafter. SSS is a different kind of company - a "Community Supported Fishery" akin to the CSA's you might be familiar with from your local farmer's market. While they project the contents of each monthly box ahead of time, the mix of what you receive depends upon the harvest. No matter what type of seafood you receive, you can expect impeccable quality, as the CSF model allows the small boat fishermen-owners and trusted partners to handle their catch in an artisanal way -- eg, line caught, immediately bled and put on ice, processed and deep frozen for shipment. All fish is sushi-grade, and in most cases you get traceability back to the boat that caught it and the date of harvest. Does all of that matter? I maintain that it does ... for example I have never received a piece of fish from SSS that was bruised from rough handling, and that does indeed make a difference in taste and texture. If you are a fan of seafood check out their "Freezer Sale" -- right now I believe they have a salmon sampler and albacore tuna available. I bet that if you do give a freezer sale box a try, you will soon find yourself poring over their subscriptions trying to decide which one to pick. If it's not the best fish you've ever had? They have fabulous customer service, contact them and surely they will do right by you. As for me? I expect I will be a subscriber for life.
