I love this store. Aldi takes all the "fun" out of shopping and boils it down to what groceries are about, food. There is no music, thousands of options of one type of food or gimmicks. Sounds boring, but it's totally worth it. The options they do have are exceptional. The staff is beyond friendly. I reccomend this location and just go in with an open mind and get ready to save. This is the newest grocery store in my area, and it recently had its grand opening last month. Today is my very first time visiting and shopping at this store. I was curious because my Mom went to the grand opening and she shared with me how foods are priced at bargains and are very affordable. When I came in to visit and park for the very first time, I was impressed at how uncrowded and easy it was to park. I took a picture of the front of the store. The lady who monitored the carts outside told me that pictures of the store were not allowed. I informed her that this was my very first time visiting and that I was just taking a picture of the front, and will not take any pictures inside of this store. I went inside and I saw how big this store was, with lots of food and merchandise selections, how the aisles were big, and the setting was very spacious! No more bumping into other customers. I liked how most of the foods were very cheap and affordable. I found it also interesting that they had their own store generic brands available, which were cheaper than national brand foods. However with my healthy eating interests and special dietary needs, I found that many of the prepared foods had milk in the ingredients list, and that is why I did not buy them. Hence health food grocery stores are still my best places to find those types of foods that exclude allergenic ingredients. Overall, they are a good grocery store for low prices and great values, but for my special dietary needs, unfortunately they could not fully fulfill those needs and desires. However I will still shop here from time to time with my family. So grateful to see another grocery store in my neighborhood. Thank you, Aldi! read more

I really like this store. It's no-frills nothing fancy. They do carry all the staples, plus a lot of various things, and I end up saving a TON of money compared to Von's or Ralph's. They carry mostly their own brands, with very few national brands, but they do NOT sacrifice the quality. Almost everything we have tried has been as good or better than the national brand. Their system of needed to insert a quarter to use the cart, that you then get back when you return it, is similar to the practice in Europe and Canada, and I don't see a problem with it! I actually feel better because people are more likely to return the cart where it goes and hence I am less likely to have one roll into my car! I did take a star off my review due to their lack of concern about the seedy people hanging out in their parking lot. Lots of homeless, a few people living in their cars seemingly permanently parked in their parking lot, and people begging for money. Additionally, a person I assume is the manager I find really rude... not friendly at all!!! read more

Aldi is to Trader Joe's what Vons is to Pavillions... it's the no nonsense less selection and cheaper version of the latter. Aldi comes from the same German family of markets that brought you Trader Joe's, so you can expect that some of the same themes will run through their markets. Here, they really want to save on costs so that they can pass on that savings to you. You can get a shopping cart, but you have to deposit 25 cents to encourage (force) you to return the cart when you're done (of course you get the 25 cents back). Now, they don't need anyone to round up carts. They do not bag your groceries and they leave it up to you (that's where keeping the shopping cart comes in handy; you just put the groceries back in the cart, go to the bagging area, and bag your groceries). Anyone who gave this a low rating did not 1) look at how low their prices are and 2) realize how their quality is still second to none. We just sampled a few of their products. They're not gourmet, but they're no different than what you get at your local supermarket. The only difference is that the price is about 30%-50% less. Yes, that is correct. I just priced their ice cream... 50% off what you would pay at a chain market. Their fresh meats.... that's about a 30% discount. All of these discounts add up! Plus, they throw in a couple of premier items just to let you know that you're dealing with European purveyors of food. All in all, I highly recommend this spot. Look at the number of reviews that I've given (600+). I know a deal when I see one. This is a deal. Ignore the raters that 1) talk about shopping carts, 2) say that the food is no good, or 3) were expecting Whole Foods items. This is a bargain, and choosing this location will allow those on fixed incomes as well as those with disposable income to enjoy shopping again... on the cheap! read more

Oh Aldi, I want to love you. I really do. Having lived in the UK I'm well versed in a coin deposit for a cart (it's a £1 in the UK and only $.25 here. A bargain!). You made my British husband's day by selling Jaffa Cakes. The weird but magical middle aisle was filled with all the things I didn't know I needed till then. It was just like being back in jolly old England! But for the love of god your cashier that seems to always work evenings is a speed demon and not in a good way. There's never a line so it's not like he's in a rush to get to customers. He just scans items at light speed, haphazardly throws your items back in the cart and barely utters a word to you. Tortilla chips are crushed and apples are bruised. I wish there was a self check out line so I could make sure my items aren't destroyed by the time I bag them. I'll return to this store I'm sure but not if I can help it. TJ's is just around the corner with far friendlier staff and I don't have to worry if my food will make it out of the store in one piece. read more

I honestly think the negative reviews are because people do not understand the concept here. I too was guilty of it when I first walked in a few months ago. (and whatever reviews referred to rude service They have since fixed it apparently! ) I was also a little confused in my first visit. Because, among a couple other things, there are no brands that you recognize. You have to stop and take the time and read the packages. (The other confusing things are you rent the shopping cart while you're there for $.25, and the entrance is on the left and the exit is on the right. They are a German company... Don't fault them!!) Any way, to the good stuff! When you finally put all your prejudices aside and know you're going to spend some time figuring things out, you're going to find some amazing things that you will not get anywhere else. I invested in the $2.99 cheddar and jalapeño raviolis. I thought "No waaaay is this going to be good! The Germans honestly don't even know how to make good food!" I was 1000% misguided. It was absolutely delicious, and it was a fresh pasta ravioli. I've come back many times, bought two bottles of wine, bought dinner for the night, and a lunch for the morning... And I swear to God I walked out only paying $25. Please ... don't let close minded people turn you away. I would like to keep this grocery store in my neighborhood. Cheers! read more

The employees are rude they talk back to customers like they are on the street. Theresa is the worst. She's beyond unprofessional and rude. I understand the concept of the market, I just think the food isn't very good. I wanted to like it, but its no TJs. The quality of their house brand is poor, imo. My experience & why I don't like Aldi 1) Peanut butter filled pretzels Aldi brand-not good at all, the taste was ok, but in 1/2 the pretzels the peanut butter had turned to powder, wtf is that about?? When I buy a bag from Tjs of same product, it will last 1 week in our home. 1/2 the bag is still in cupboard-NO One is house hold liked it. Gotta Toss out. 2) Bread-Hawaiian sweet rolls & loaf of white bread-white bread went moldy before exp date. Sweet rolls-tasted nasty and stale. 3) THE WORST-their aldi brand tabouli -OMG all I could taste was pickles!!! Disgusting, one bite and it was thrown out. 4) This am I wanted to make breakfast burritos...took out the Aldi frozen Hash browns...oh no, they expired yesterday and I bought them last week??? Maybe they will be ok...but alas no, the pkg was frozen solid, a brick of potatoes that were beige(again WTF?) & ice. Once again, I threw out aldi food. I really did want to love this market, I get their concept and they are def cheaper, but dear God-the food I bought sucked. I will pay more and go back to Trader Joes, yes its expensive, but I don't throw everything away that I bought. The quality of Aldis brand is sub par, imo. read more

WOW! Being that I spend must of my time in Australia I was very excited to finally have Aldi somehow near me in Long Beach. I walked in and I was so excited I FaceTime my best friend in Australia and I started to show him the store and the products that were so similar... I was like a kid in a candy store only to be yelled by a employee "don't do that!" Which I replied: "do what?" And he said: "don't use your phone for that" and he pointed at the products... needless to say this jerk ruined my excitement and after that encounter I had NO desire to buy anything anymore. I walked aimlessly trying to reconcile my feelings of being offended and verbally assaulted but to no avail. The tall black man went back to stocking the shelves and my friend in Australia was very disappointed of the experience as well. I'm NOT COMING BACK. Although, this store is smaller compared to other grocery stores, they pretty much have everything you need. The basics such as fresh fruits/veggies, meat, and dairy are very reasonably priced. Almost all the boxed, packaged, and canned goods are their brands (generic versions of popular name branded items). So far, I have liked everything I have tried. It's also great knowing that if I don't like something, I can bring it back and receive double my money back. I really enjoy the german chocolate covered butter cookies and my kids really like their version of Doritos. The store is always clean and the enployees are regularly seen cleaning the store. The service has always been supurb. We are usually checked out by Chanel. She is very sweet and helpful. read more

Very impressed. I've shopped at Aldi in Europe and they've brought their high standards to the US. The quarter-for-a-cart thing is funny and not a big deal. The store is super clean and well organized. I found the staff to be courteous and helpful. Prices appear to be even better than Food For Less and Bargain Market. Most of the items/brands I had never heard of but the quality is excellent. It's fun to search through all of the interesting items. A bargain version of Trader Joe's! Avocados are 25 cents right now (1/7/17)...I'm in guacamole heaven!! :) FACTS: -You need a quarter to use a cart, but once returned so is your quarter (not a big deal IMO). -The cashiers get to sit down in a comfy chair while they ring up the groceries (that's a nice benefit). -Customers bag their groceries (that's the norm these days), and there's a bagging bar (which is useful and considerate). -Small store with plenty of parking. -Great prices! (Check out the weekly ads). Some people might consider some of these facts as cons, but I don't mind them at all. I was shocked on how many non dairy milk products they have here and for a very affordable price. For that aldi was a plus. I just got two salad bags ,bananas and some chocolate pretzels. Clean, convenient, and cheap. Parking is plentiful. Discount grocery store. Some of their prices are unbelievable. For example, I have paid as little .58 cents for a dozen large AA eggs. Yesterday I paid .78 cents for a dozen eggs. How about a gallon of milk for $1.75! They have seasonal bargains on a variety of non-food items too. Pretty much like any other cheap grocery store, actually reminds me very much like all the Grocery bargain outlet markets. The prices and layout is very similar other than paying a quarter deposit to aquire a cart. I'm glad they opened one up in my area which is in LBC. So be sure to have a quarter with you when you visit. Other than that most often an employee has helped me out when I didn't have a quarter in hand and gave me a cart anyways..... My love for Aldi is real. This is our go to grocery store in Long Beach ever since it opened. It's not as crowded as other places and we like their produce section. We go here every weekend. You have to put 25 cents to get a cart but you can get it when you put the cart back(you have to put the key in the slot of your cart to get the quarter back).They sell cheap wines and great quality frozen pizzas. I'm also a big fan of their Specialty Selected line, especially the Truffles Mac and Cheese. Sometime, they would do sales for random items that are too good to pass( like a cat window bed for 15 dollars). Best to go here on Sunday afternoon because in my experience, the shelves are always fully stocked. read more
