She currently has just about every tomato plant you could imagine and a whole lot more. Her prices are better than the big box stores and the plants look better. She also had some incredible hanging baskets (just in time for Mother's Day) and beautiful succulents. In the summer she will start to carry local produce (corn, tomatoes and more). You have to get there early because she sells out quickly. It doesn't look like much until you get inside. There is limited street parking on the side street next to the stand.

But the best attribute of the grocery is that they have a full time butcher that actually cuts fresh meat daily. You can get wonderful smoked pork chops, steaks, roasts, just about anything. And the prices are reasonable. You can also find locally made specialty sodas and favorites. 7M's IGA has won best grocery in Lebanon because of the personal service and offerings. The staff is friendly. The store is hidden behind the library just north of the Courthouse. They have a small parking lot and some street parking. They are open day 7 am to 10 pm. and they offer delivery Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

I had the chance to accompany a friend to Spencer Farm for a relatively brief visit. While it was pretty brief, I was impressed. Spencer Farm was started by, you guessed it, the Spencers - Lori and Kyle. It started out as Spencer's U-Pick in 1982. They started out with strawberries. By 1986, they moved to a new farm on Cherry Tree Road. They expanded to include red raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, and chrysanthemums. They've added pumpkins, asparagus, grapes, Christmas trees, and their son founded a winery that now also sits on the farm grounds. Spencer's now does pre-picked, you-pick, and wholesale fruit. In 2008, they further expanded the farm with a variety of Indiana products including ice cream, fudge, pies, jams, jellies, etc. As you can tell, I immediately wanted to see their sunflower field. I love, love, love sunflowers. One of the reasons I'm not particularly a farm dude is because farms are seldom very accessible. While Spencer's isn't perfect, there's a STRONG effort here to be accessible. I was honestly surprised and impressed. You could send me to the gift shop, and I could be a very happy camper. I will note that they have a strong photography policy. It's on their website, but if you're taking professional equipment I'd read the policies first as there are requirements. There's an awful lot to love here. The people are friendly. The farm is well laid out and surprisingly accessible (the fields obviously have some issues - they're fields). There's accessible parking close to the entrance. This would be a great place for families. Children should definitely enjoy it. There's a strong element of faith here, and that's radiated in the beauty of the surroundings and the service.

But to find it, I had to do a bit of looking and on the way to the airport , made my driver, Nathan, stop so that i could buy some (along with beans). They have many other items, some of them local, from the pumpkins (can't carry those in a suitcase alas) to sweet pepers and a lot of other tasty delights which are NOT made locally. they are only open until Oct 31, so plan on getting there before Halloween. It was delicious and reasonably priced. You'll mostly notice Laura's featherwork jewelry and goodies. While I can't say that they're for me, they definitely make a statement and can turn an eye...to say the least. Laura is incredibly nice and just another reason to give this place a shot (whether at their farm or at a local event).

She has a crafty eye that could make even the dullest plumage into a work of art. Not only are they art, but extremely affordable - $8 for handcrafted and local earrings? I think I can pull that off ;) The feathers are gathered in a variety of ways, but most often they are compiled following the slaughter of the Farm's chickens for meat. **thought: this is definitely the first time I've used the word "slaughter" in a review...**

An entrance and separate exit had been set up. The hanging baskets were affordable and gorgeous but I had already purchased my baskets. The annuals and perennials selection was limited but healthy and a nice variety. Once I went inside the stand I found prebagged greenbeans, tomatoes and new potatoes I had to take home with me. They were fresh and made for a nice summer meal. If you're in the area stop by and checkout the selection. It's a short drive from Plainfield on US 40.
