The staff works very hard, and does a good job keeping on top of the lines/checkouts. Worst part of shopping has always been "waiting", and thankfully, usually the wait here is not too bad. That said, they do get stampeded with giant crowds sometimes. Not sure if there is any solution to the insane crowds. Its hard to know when they will be normal busy or crazy busy. I dont blame them for the crowds though, as their aisles are pretty wide and allow good flow, their cashiers are generally very fast, and, if they see a line, they try to add more folks to the registers to keep checkout moving. Overall, I am quite pleased with them and will continue to do most of my shopping there.

The layout while antiquated looking is easy and "classic" retail. Don't change it if it ain't broke. Food selection is pretty good they have tons of import products as well the only place they are rather thin is on Kosher / Jewish tradition food. The store has otherwise competitive prices across all levels of grocery. Their fish prices are competitive with surrounding merchants. The only problem here is that the automated cash registers are down half of the time. Not a massive problem though because there are still plenty of manned registers and the staff are efficient and quick to do their jobs. I can't help but knock off a point for the irregular at best availability of the self serve registers. I'm all for jobs but at the same time I'd rather be able to clean the machine I'm using than interacting with a fleshbag carrying who knows what kind of cooties.

Store was clean, but the issue itself was the cashier, who seemed to be angry at anybody for everything. The people in front of me were scrutinized for not standing close enough to the people in front of them. Those people were scrutinized for not moving their cart, fast enough, despite the fact that the cashier didn't pull up another cart to unload the next person's groceries into. I was scrutinized for not having my groceries in the order that she wanted them to be in, even though she did not put them in a cart She just piled them on top of each other. The people behind me were criticized for not putting their items on the conveyor belt, even though they only had one item and the conveyor belt was wet. Overall, just a gruff rudeness from whoever was working as the cashier on Sunday, August 24 around 5:30.

However, the bread was not fresh, and upon asking an employee they said they would not have any--I'm disappointed, especially considering the new rebranding. Additionally, I did not purchase any bacon due to the price. I once went here and only one cashier was on the floor, with a line that extended to the back of the store. This is highly unacceptable for a store, unless you are attempting to push customers away, which in the long-run decreases sales--which no business wants. Also, with no one to ask or no supervisor around (Anthony, the store manager is the exception since he often talks to customers and creates a connection), the poor cashier can occasionally struggle--especially, with having to bag and scan at the same time while have to deal with angry and demanding customers alone.

I took advantage of their pickup service. It worked out great until this past order. I always start my order 24 hrs before pickup time. That way I can add items. This time after making my order an hour before (approx 8pm with pick up at 11am the next day) I needed to order a few more items. The website said they were already shopping my order and I could not add anything further. Ugh! Went the next day and picked up my order and brought it home. Items I paid for were not there and the entire bag of potatoes was obviously rotten. Was told I'd be getting a survey and I never received it and no info of anyone to contact. Meijer, you've lost our business. Do not place an order for pickup.

They have one of the best selections of ethnic foods in the area so finding something special is usually easy to do there. Their produce can't be beaten. They have a huge selection of all different types of produce - fruits and vegetables, many I've never tried before but will eventually. They also have an amazing deli counter with probably the best pricing around. With good pricing, their cold cuts turn over quickly so you know you are always getting something fresh. While they used to be the least expensive store for just about everything, we've also seen their prices climb over the years. But compared to the large grocers in the area like Jewel, they are much less expensive. Shopping at Valli can be fun - you'll see things you've never seen before. Lots of people shop there so also be prepared for lines at their checkout counters. But, it's all worth it.

Valli is similar to other stores like Garden Fresh, Fresh Farms, Caputo's, etc. in the area that carry a larger than average selection of European, Mexican, and Asian items -- where the prices are mostly competitive for the international items, but items like milk and American brands may cost more than elsewhere like Jewel. Like similar stores, it's necessary to be careful of expiration dates as these can vary widely on product. Sales stickers are sometimes indicative of which items are close to expiration, but this isn't always a reliable way to tell. I also see a wider than normal variation of prices between items, which I don't like compared to everyday low pricing overall. This makes me a bit weary to buy a lot of items here, as I'm not sure if I'm always getting a good price. The strongest section here is probably the produce which overall offers a large variety at good prices. Fresh fruits and vegetables would be the top reason to shop here and having a different selection of ready-to-cook items than what you'd find at Jewel or Mariano's.
