Good prices, but the cashier's are kinda rude. I feel like I'm in supermarket sweep when I get to the register. They rush you to pay and they rush you to bag all your items at top speed before the next customer's items get dumped into the cart. I put a box in the cart and asked if the cashier could just put my items directly into the box so I could just grab it and go. The cashier said no and proceeded to throw all my items in the cart next to my box. As I was lifting my box out she pulled the cart and said "this stays with me" I wasn't even trying to take her cart. The cart moved when I lifted my box out. The customer behind me kindly offered me their cart, but I declined because I didn't need it. read more

I went to Aldi in HB for the first time. I was surprised that you have to have a quarter to get a cart. The problem was I did not have a quarter and had to wonder around to find change. After I shopped I handed the cashier "Robert" the items and the bag I brought so he could pack the items for me. I like ALDI- the prices are really good - I buy basics. Fruit, pasta, milk, eggs.. I have always found what I need. I do have 2 small kids (1 & 2) this cannot be my go to store as you need to bag your own groceries... Also the cart return is at the very front of the store. At regular markets I park next to cart return areas so I don't have to walk to far from the kids being strapped in the car. For those reasons I have only been to ALDI a hand full of times. Love Aldi! The biggest downside to this location is the wait at the cashiers. I have a feeling they're short staffed at times since they usually have their "hiring" bulletin outside. Other than that this location is great! Everything is well organized and clean. The employees are always very helpful and attentive. Personally I love shopping at Aldi because I find some great deals and items I didn't even know I needed. This is only the second time I've ever come in and BOTH times I was over charged on multiple items because the cashier didn't count right. Unfortunately didn't notice until i got home. Also, the customer service here was completely out of it. I got in a line that the checker said he was closing. 30 seconds later when his line was empty he motioned a lady to come in with a full cart. Employees are extremely rude. I had to come here for a pick up order and let's say I would never come here on my own terms. Cashier Donna was extremely rude and unpleasant. Seemed annoyed that she had to replenish the paper bags at her register since there were none available. Then proceeded to THROW the groceries into the cart. I can understand them not bagging the groceries (seems like the cashiers are lazy) but to throw them unacceptable. And to top it off as she finished tossing the groceries into the cart Donna then proceeds to push the shopping cart against the wall away from the register. I've been a cashier before and let me tell you not the way to behave especially since your company requires very little of you besides sitting down and throwing groceries into a cart. I would actually give this place 3 1/2 stars. It has some really good aspects, but then some crappy aspects. Looking for inexpensive name brand wine? You found the spot! You can get a decent bottle for between $8.99 and $11.99. They frequently have some obscure beers and wine that are always fun to try out since they aren't too pricey. Looking for cheese to go with the wine? I can't leave this place without 3 or 4 different kinds of cheeses. From smoked cheddar, to sage goat cheese....they have it all! I think last Friday I brought home 6 cheeses, three bottles of wine and my night was set! Now to the crappy stuff. You have to make sure you have a quarter handy for the shopping carts. The first time I went to this place I got major anxiety because I couldn't figure out how to unlock the carts and there was no one around to help. Now that I'm a pro it ain't so bad, just a little annoying, especially if you don't carry change. There is generally only one checker, so the lines get long. Also, they have a limited selection compared to a regular grocery store, so I generally have to finish up my shopping at Vons or Ralphs. After shopping at our local Ralph's, we started to try Aldi for some things. Now we only shop at Aldi. This location always has fresh, clean and tasty food. I purchased a NY Strip for $6 and change and I must say it was better than similar steak purchased at Ralphs for yes double the price. Great prices, you will save a lot of money here. Trust their brands as well, they are just as good as the name brands. Service here is not always great, its more of a big club type feel, overall its really a pleasant place to shop though with outstanding savings and products. read more

First time here and wow this place is a bargain. First off you'll need a quarter to get a cart (you'll get it back when you put your cart away) then you enter and it can be a bit overwhelming. It's pretty much a cross between the 99cent store and Trader Joe's -there's a lot of items that I swear are Trader Joe's in a different packaging but also many brand names like coke. Things are mostly organized by like items but not abnormal to see stuff randomly placed. This store isn't for everyone but if you're looking for everyday and unique items at great price points and have time to look around. read more

Kind of like Fresh and Easy (which used to be in this neighborhood), but focused more on staples and store brands of things like cereal. They do have some unique products worth trying though, at very reduced prices than you might expect. I got a big bag of s'mores trail mix (yum!) for $3.99 and Sriracha kettle cooked potato chips for $1.99. These are sale or limited time items so they may disappear later, but both around half price of what you would find at big supermarkets or specialty stores like Sprouts. My main concern about this store is speed. On a Sunday afternoon the store was not swarmed, but reasonably busy. There were 4 or 5 people looking to check out, most with full carts, but only one checker. There's no express lane, and no self checkout. They don't bag your groceries for you, just say oh you can borrow my cart to bag your stuff since you don't have one. I didn't expect this, because it's not a self-checkout and waited quite a while to buy my 5 items. I figured they'd actually help me bag something. I left my dog in the car with the windows down because I figured I'd be inside for less than 10 minutes, which is the max time it would have taken me at Ralphs or Albertsons. Not hardly. And I like to shop in a hurry and live 25 minutes away, so some items might spoil by the time I get home. So these things were annoying. They do have a "double the return" policy where if you buy something and it's no good and return it, they give you a credit for twice of whatever it is. So that's something handy to remember, nobody wants to deal with this normally. Also they don't have disposable bags, but you can buy reusable plastic ALDI bags at a heavily discounted price (around 15c each I believe). The other weirdness is it's a 25c deposit for a cart, which they then refund when you return it to the front of the store. But if you don't have a quarter I'm not sure how you can really shop, maybe they'll let you borrow one til you check out (I carried my 5 items). I couldn't figure out the point of this, unless they were trying to start a cottage business for hobos... I guess it's so they don't have to pay someone to collect the carts in the parking lot, but still seemed weird to me. Anyway it's worth a try if you're willing to check it out and/or drive even if you don't live in this neighborhood. I hope they build a few more stores i.e. in Central OC. read more

This is my goto Aldi. My only complaint is about the one female employee with the really long braided hair that goes all the way down her back. Sorry, I can only give her description because i dont know her name. Anyways my complaint about her is the way she slams the bread trays on the floor everytime Im there. She doesnt place it down gently or even drops it but she SLAMS them. I dont know if she is always having a bad day or if she hates her job but as a customer I dont want to walk by someone slamming stuff on the ground. Ive noticed on several occasions she does this and every time i would avoid that aisle until she is done. I also notice other customers doing the same. Maybe management needs to talk to her, maybe she IS management because ive never seen her as a cashier. I dunno but she just needs to chill! read more

I paid a visit to ALDI today. The store is fairly small. The prices on food and produce items are cheap. Located on the corner of Magnolia/Warner in the complex with CVS and Winchell's. Pros: --Offers regular and organic produce at competitive prices. --Huge selection of healthy snacks: granola, cereal, fiber bars. --Earth friendly-you can purchase plastic grocery bags for .15 each. --Parking is easy to find as the plaza is pretty isolated. Cons: --Only one cashier available with no express lane option. Cashier is seated so they are slower in scanning and processing transaction. --Must insert a quarter to use shopping carts. Good thing they return the money when you bring it back to the front. --Bag your own groceries. That's fine-Costco is the same way. No bagging. --Limited wine/beer selection. Would I shop here again? Possibly for the fresh fruits and veggies. Save those reusable bags for the next time. read more

I used to shop at Trader Joe's but ever since Aldi's opened up, I haven't set foot in one in forever. Similar to Costco and Trader Joe's, Aldi's carries their own brand and that's how they're able to keep their prices competitively low. Even though their store may seem small, they have a WIDE range of items. When I was on the ketogenic diet, Aldi's has a lot of items that are low carb (they even carry bars that are comparable to atkins!!) and affordable. The center section and stand alone frozen food section are a similar concept to Grocery Outlets, in that this section is for Aldi's finds - which are there for a limited time and not a part of their typical inventory. These items typically switched out each week or when supplies run out and on occasions you can find name brand items. They've had various themes like back to school, thanksgiving, baking, electronics, etc. This might sound weird to buy a mattress from a grocery store but when they had their home accessions/back to school themed week, they had queen sized 10 inch memory foam mattresses for ~199.00 which is a pretty good deal compared to whar you can get on amazon. But I waited for it to be marked down even more and got it for ~99.49. Some differences are: - they don't do cart maintanence, bring a quarter to check one out and when you bring your cart back you get your quarter back - this doesn't matter anymore but previous to the November election, you had to bring your own bag or purchase one - you bag your own items, if you have your own cart, they'll load your items in a cart they have right by their register. If you didn't get a cart, they'll do the same but ask you to load your items off to the side and bring back the cart (because the quarter, yknow?) Their aldis brand can really compare to the brands you're typically used to, the only one that disappointed me was their version of hot funions, it was wayYYyy too much of an onion powder taste for me. Aldi's stands by their brand so the not only give you your money back, they replace the item for you. This also applies to their aldis find. I was reluctant to its success since the grocery store market is really competitive in southern california (remember Haggen and Fresh and Easy?) But I love the no frills feel of Aldis if that means I can save a bunch of money. I remember Albertson's releasing a radio commercial when Aldis and Grocery Outlet were opening up in the area, marketing their deli, fresh hot foods (fried chicken, etc) and bakery and that's okay, I don't miss those things because I seriously love Aldis!!!! Produce is fresh, good variety of snacks. They have their own generic brands of cereal which was interesting to me. It's not a natural health food store but there are options. I saw a couple families shopping here. You have to bag your own groceries and pay a quarter for a cart (prompts you to return it and not leave it in the lot) but you get it back. I'm just waiting for a day when someone will ask for my cart when I'm done with my visit. Spent $50 on juices, produce, bread, turkey patties, and snacks. Decent, if interesting, selection. The prices are hit or miss, some things are bargains and some you don't need to make the trip for. The overall variety is lacking in some of the products, like pasta or grains, but produce is a steal. I needed small shells for a dish, but all they had was mostly macaroni or spaghetti, so instead of making another trip, I settled for something in between. Candy is cheap though, and that's just as important. One thing I can't get passed though is the people. Generally disgusting, clueless and idiotic. They haven't grasped the concept, ridiculously vocal about the cart return, even though they're lending quarters for it anyway to accomplish these stupid dipshits, they don't understand reusable bags and they use the cart sanitizing wipes for their hands, as if they're not otherwise filthy in the rest of their daily lives. Everything is laid out and labeled nicely, but the signage could be higher or at the beginning of the aisles instead of above the products, making you roam and search for the sign/product, where you'll either notice one or the other first, not realizing you switched from perusing signs to labels of products. Also, i don't understand the register at the very edge of the checkout, so if you're not with a cart, you have to hold a bag for them to dump it all in. That brings me to another point, there are no baskets for those of us who don't shop for a month's worth of groceries at a time. I could just load up my own reusable bags, unload them at the register, then load them up again, but that's a little silly. read more

This place just opened a couple weeks ago as of this writing. Nice clean layout. ALDI name reminds me of the times I'm in Europe checking out the aisles. We've been to quite a few of these as prices were good. ALDI in the US is more or less like Grocery Outlet, so in that sense it was a letdown as I could not find the same imported brands I see in Europe. If you've never been to an ALDI before - then I would simply say the items are very competitive with Walmart / Grocery Outlet pricing. Excellent to drop in and grab a few things or fill up the fridge. Take a few minutes to walk both sides of the middle aisle and look for markdowns. The theme varies from Wednesday to Wednesday based on the time of year (summer beach stuff, kitchen items, car accessories, medical devices, pet needs, gardening, Christmas pfefferneusse, liebkuchen, zartbitte with apricot filling yummmmmy, etc.) You must try 2 things 1. chocolate made in Germany (costs less than TJ's) and is as good as the stuff I carried in my luggage when I traveled back from Europe last year. I sometimes give the chocolate as little thank you gifts. There are large blocks or small bars in a three pack and varieties with mint, orange, hazelnut, and marzipan. 2. brioche in the farthest aisle on the lower shelf is sometimes hidden but that means more for me (save me!). There are several brioches but if you're not on a diet get the chocolate chip loaf. The brioche hamburger buns may scar you from settling for a regular hamburger bun again. I saw something similar at Ralph's but the cost was double and the quality paled. Aldo's brioche is made in France, is gmo-free, and fresh frozen so it's actually fresher than brioche baked locally then transported for delivery. Get a cart even if you're only planning to get a few items. My first time at Aldi i was outraged about the quarter. Then i realized duh it's a deposit. The system works brilliantly. Just do it and see. Whenever I have the thought "meh I don't need a cart" about 5 min into shopping my arms are awkwardly full of things i didn't know i absolutely need and I solemnly swear to always get a cart in the future. To get a cart simply push a quarter into the red slit on the right side of the cart handle where it says quarter and the cart unlocks for use. When you're done shopping return the cart to get the quarter back or leave it in the parking lot and you'll make the next customer happy to return it for you and they get your quarter or likely will pay it forward. People who shop here are overwhelmingly nice, friendly, community-oriented, high-functioning, busy, diverse, and smart shoppers. Likely to hear at least three languages spoken as you peruse. read more

I use to go there every week for my groceries, because of the low prices. Recently i noticed that prices of my staples were creeping up. However today's experience was so horrifying that i probably never come back to this store again. A nice old lady, parked in a handicapped parking spot just finished loading her car with groceries, decided leave her shopping cart on the parking lot. Understandably as she walked with difficulty and another customer would pick it up, saving a quarter. Then I watched a young man in aldi uniform running out of the store, yelling at the old lady, visibly upset at her for not returning the shopping cart. My wife wend in the store complaining about the rude behavior of this employee. Inside one of the store managers first denied that a man with that description worked there, until she spotted him coming out of the warehouse.... his name is Rob, turned out to be the other store manager. A store that allows their managers to treat their customers so badly, will not get business from me again. read more

So I came in for their grand opening, and it was a bit busy, but they handed out one of those reusable bags which was nice. The parking lot was quite full and it was a bit difficult to find parking, but I assume this is because of their grand opening and I hope it wouldn't be a common occurrence. For their shopping carts, you are supposed to "rent" a cart for a quarter, and when you return the cart back to the front of the store, you get your quarter back. When checking out, they didn't provide any bags (except the original reusable bag they handed out), and they directed you to a side counter to "bag" all your items, so it'd be a good idea to bring reusable bags). I felt the pricing was quite low on a few items, especially the produce, milk, and eggs from what I saw. The selection is also a bit more limited compared to many other stores, which I rather like because I don't need to see all the loads of brands of chicken tenders, just having one or two is good enough for me. Overall I quite like this place and will most likely be back to do some grocery shopping here. The price to quality ratio is good enough that I don't have to go through the headache of all the other grocery stores and comparison shop all the various brands, I can just go in, grab what I need, and feel like it was overall a fair price. read more

The next European grocery crossover to the Southern California market is here! Honestly, it doesn't really look very promising for them. This place is less of a Trader Joe and more of a eurotrashy Walmart type place. Entire aisle dedicated to garden hose sprinklers and accessories? Sure! Lots of brand selection for foods? Pffft, nah. Aldi reminds me of a Fresh n Easy with fewer European brand products and more junky random selections. For example there was already a clearance aisle hawking giant stuffed dogs, comforter bedding sets and women's sandals and this was only the second week they've been open! Whaaaaat? For a market with limited space, I would rather they carry more food selection and fewer aisle that look like were lifted straight out of a TJ Maxx. You know by now of the shopping cart rental policy. It's probably great for the managers who don't have to assign a worker to pick up the strays in the parking lots but kinda sucky for the shoppers who forego carrying much cash and coins. We were at the Aldi grand opening today, more to look then to shop. We use this term when we do that: look, look, but don't buy!....or, when in doubt, lead a scout....the parking lot was packed, one good thing is to have a person actually direct traffic in front of the store. We watched drivers scurry from isle to isle and getting frustrated. Yes I got lucky a car pulled out in front of me, and we didn't mind the 50 yard walk. We were greeted by radio station KRTH 101. where the music is loud and the crowd is louder. Skip that! At the front door we were each given a nice Aldi reusable bag. We then went inside where shoulder to shoulder, rephrase that to shopping cart to shopping cart slowly navigated the isles. Oh no, that person decides to go against the flow!...crash!...we skirted around this madness to a center table where Austrian made Milk Chocolate and popcorn and gluten free crackers were free to sample. We walked thru several departments comparing product and pricing. Fresh produce and fruits, pre packaged meats, dairy in cold stores, lots of dry goods, and wine. I have to admit that many items are very competitively priced. I'm guessing that the crowd shopping right now are also taking advantage of the $5.00 off coupon. But will the hype hold up. This Aldi has much competition and I admit that I am also a Trader Joe shopper. But, that is exactly why we were here, to check it out. I think the crowded isles and parking madness will get better. Staples are priced at affordable rates. However, it is disorganized when comes to waiting in line. During peak hours, there is either one long line for one register or multiple registers are open but customers are confused and creating their own lines and not following the store guidance for social distancing, resulting in cutting in front of people who have waited a long time. Have no idea why the ratings are so low. I was going to take my time to write a full review, but I can't just sit idly by as this goes on haha. ALDI is amazing. I'm sure it's better in Europe. If you don't like their alcohol, don't go here for that. Their produce is hit or miss. Sometimes it's amazing, sometimes it's meh. But the rest of their products are suspiciously cheap, delicious, and great. I will do the bulk of my shopping here after moving nearby. They have their versions of popular items that area much better than American store brands (and they're usually just as good) If you're really gonna complain about bagging your own groceries or putting in 25 cents to get a cart... I don't know what to tell you. You get the quarter back afterwards and it makes the parking lot immaculately free of any rogue shopping carts that seem to leave scratches and dents in cars. I love how most if not all European markets are geared more towards wholesome natural food ie; no GMO and few artificial ingredients, etc. I've shopped everywhere and I'm not going to compare it to other markets like some others have. Its got good food that I need for good prices. When I need something ese I go somewhere else. Aldis never promised to be a one stop shop. I can't believe some ppl complaining about prices! People quick to spend a ton of money on unneeded items but then complain about spending a few dollars on something wholesome the body needs. So if you want a European supermarket experience, this place is it. Whenever I've been there at least 10-20% of the shoppers are fresh off the plane from Europe. Clearly this is a familiar experience. That said, I hated shopping in Europe. If that's the local custom, so be it, I never complained. But I'm here not there and I like the lazy American experience. I can live without the bagging and "free bags" but the cart situation is beyond annoying. I've hated change for 30+ years, I'm not going to start to carry it now. All that said, it is a familiar experience for my wife, so I go because she wants to go. Prices? Eh. If you compare prices per unit, the prices aren't that great. Some items are definitely cheaper, but most are simply smaller sizes. Smaller portions aren't a bad thing. Do you pay $1.50 for two and throw one away because it is cheaper than $1.00 for one? Just use common sense. The sales of oddball items is interesting. It is like the 99¢ store experience 15+ years ago. If you are on a budget and can resist buying what you don't need, you will get items you do need very cheap. What they do have that I like are products from Europe you don't see in regular supermarkets. Cheeses, meats, etc. You can find these items elsewhere, but you need to know where to go. Customer service? Well not the American experience where they are trained to make you feel good. They are there to get you in and out. Like Europe, if you are nice with them they will be nice to you. I don't think I've ever left without making the cashier laugh. If you come in with a grumpy attitude, they aren't going to make an effort to make you happy. They aren't rude, they simply don't massage your ego. If they disappeared tomorrow I wouldn't miss Aldi. We don't live in a tiny apartment with a tiny fridge. We don't need to shop daily. Not impressed. I'd like to address a few of the statements that I see in reviews. First, they want you to take a cart because that is what their cashier's are set up for. I've never been to an Aldi (that I remember) in DE but the way most grocery stores are set up is to have a divided landing for your groceries. If you are not done bagging, they move the divider so that they can start with the next person (like Fresh & Easy had it). I don't carry cash let alone change, so I used my own shopping bags. The cashier (very polite) had a cart at the end so you could take items and bag them as he was scanning. Second, there are some good prices, but many are not much better than Amazon Prime Now. I was underwhelmed at the price difference. Also, not much in the way of German products. There are some, but it's negligible. You're better off going to a small grocer that imports German goods and paying a little more. This concept works in Germany with the carts and check out because it's that way across the board. I would love it if the US standardized to this, but it's not likely coming any time soon. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

Me and my family were just shopping and we're ready to pay and we're putting our items on the combiner belt & this lady or known as jessy/ Jessie told us to put our items off the combiner belt because the other lady in front of us was still putting her things but there was a separator so what was the problem? She had told us to put our items completely off the belt why ? No idea. There were other people doing the same thing yet she didn't say anything? Mind you me and my family are Hispanic she could tell right away by just looking at us also let me add that the other people that were doing the same thing were Caucasian people. Decided to check out this store because a group of girls i know love coming here for their fruits for our morning smoothies. This store is a tad bit different than others. They have carts up front but they are locked, once you insert a quarter it unlocks. Good thing we had change in the car or we would have had to shop without one. The store is small but very organized, they have a lot of off brands that i have never heard of before. I was mostly interested in the fruit that day but there didn't seem to be to much variety. We waled around for a bit and grabbed a few other things. They had also ran out of 2% milk, they only had whole milk and sweetened almond which kinda sucked. We asked and one of the girls told us they would be getting more next week. okay, no problem.. Once we were ready, we arrived at check out. There was only one cashier but there wasn't maybe more than 5 people in the store anyways. She was super friendly, we ended up having a whole conversations about bananas..wtf right? haha! We will definitely be coming back when I run out of fruit again, instead of heading over to Costco just for fruit lol. :) read more
