This is a great aldi location. It is clean and organized. They always have what I'm looking for including seasonal and special items. I bought some very high quality Mother's Day cards there for .99! Not sure about parking. The lines can be sorta long but they open up additional and it moves quickly at least the times I've been there read more

Ok, so in the beginning I just didn't get it. This Aldi is sort of chaotic and I never can count on finding the deal I got last time when I go in the next time. But I think I am warming up to the process. I like the bring your own bag policy. I also am starting to like stumbling across some unexpected money saver and it is so nice to have something left in my fridge or cupboard as rent time approaches. read more

This new facility is wonderful. For years I always thought of Aldi's as a poor people's store. This is not true & they are a "Godsend". The quality is every bit as good as as any food store. They might have brand names that you don't recognize but they are fine as consumer goods go. You save almost 50% on your grocery bill. If bagging my own goods is the "price" I have to pay to save that much I'm good to go. With the money as it is, "Two thumbs up..." read more

I love this place. Cheap prices and nice employees. I'd love to act like I would prefer fewer processed foods, but who am I kidding? Even if I felt good about spending all kinds of money at Whole Foods, I would still go to Jewel and get the processed foods since I normally don't have the time or patience to cook up a "real" meal. That being said, you can still go to Aldi and get stuff like milk, bread, salads, cheeses, and select produce and meats, all at substantial discounts and equal quality to Jewel. If you forget your bags and don't want to shell out for theirs, you can always find plenty of empty boxes (or nearly empty ones) that you can use instead, though your neighbors may think you raided the local food pantry when they see you unloading your car. I always make a beeline for the sturdy banana boxes (you'll thank me later for this DYNAMO tip). Price alone would get them 5 stars, but the fact is that Aldi is not a complete supermarket (and doesn't pretend to be), so I usually swing by Jewel afterward to pick up the few items that are left on my list. If you're not at the point yet where you are concerned about saving money (congratulations!), then don't bother making the extra trip--Aldi doesn't have any unique offerings, just all the normal stuff at prices cheaper than most sale items at Jewel. read more

Typical inner city supermarket - staff/cashiers are indifferent - your food is thrown into the cart - I asked the cashier to not throw my produce - I was just ignored - again - no one cares. read more

I went to Aldi for the first time today!! I live on Clark/Diversy so it was a little of a commute. However it was well worth it!! I am from Oregon so I had a really rough time understanding the grocery store prices here in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. I was completely amazed at the murderous pricing in the grocery stores here. Aldi was the answer. So inexpensive with good quality food!!! I am so happy that I wont go anywhere else and pay those ridiculous prices again!!! read more

So this is how a German discounter looks like in the US - very interesting. Some things look quite like ALDI-Germany here: the yellow price tags, shopping carts that you have to deposit a quarter in there to get it (which you get back when bringing back the cart), everything is still in its cardboard-box, plastic bags you can (or have to) buy and of course, the big ALDI-sign at the street. Still, the things they sell resemble what you get in other They definitely provide cheap prices by saving on the cost for staff - the people in there look pretty busy and there's only ever a few of them in there. Quite fun to see what becomes of their concepts in the US. That is between 2 to 4 stars from me. What is filling the rating to 5 stars is, that there is no "buy one, get one free"-terror happening here! They just offer you the cheapest price they can make - there is NO space for a 50% or 75% rebate like everywhere else. And you do NOT need a Card, that they will use to monitor your shopping habits jut to get things at reasonable prices - GREAT! read more

I went in here to check out the new location, which is next door to the old one. Nice clear aisle, clean displays and larger selections. I asked the manager if they had an item from a flyer, he says we don't have that in this store, maybe next week. He asked me when the item was going on sale, I did not know. I guess I was just a waste of his time, well I guess my time somewhere else too. read more

New store. Friendly staff. The bombardment in the parking lot by non shoppers makes me doubt the safety of the store, especially for women and children. read more

I love getting my groceries here.. its all generic stuff but the price is definitely right! If you can grab one of their boxes and just pile your stuff in that is ideal! read more

This is a great place to stock up on canned goods and chips, nuts, etc. There are definitely good bargains. I would stay away from the produce and meat, but that is just my opinion. There aren't employees out and about in the store to answer questions. Beware - the checkout lines are always long because they usually only have one or two open. Make sure you bring your own bags or you will have to buy them there. Also beware that the people there are sometimes scary. Don't have eye contact with them. read more

Good for dry & canned items, I don't buy meat here, it's cheaper at Uptown shop & save or Old World market; could really use an express lane

As a person of low income means,I am a big fan of aldi's and even more a fan since its in the neighborhood. Some people bitch and complain that u have to pay a quarter for a cart and you have to bring or buy bags. This is why the prices are so low because of this. I like brand name stuff if I have the money, but if u don't the stuff they have up there is pretty damn good. They have good fruits and veggies and a good prices, and the meats are well priced too. I've been going there since the old aldis which they closed in 2007 to open this store. Hell when I was homeless I used to sleep behind both of the stores lol. 5 stars in my opinion. Btw don't think your too good to shop there because you can to go to other stores like dominincks, whole foods, etc. Who dosent like to save money duh. You can use the money you save for other things read more

The Aldi uptown location is a diamond in the ruff. The prices are amazing and 95% of the shoppers are honest working stiffs. The other 5% unfortunately reflects the ultra-low income population that hangs out near the Wilson red line stop. Fortunately they are significantly outnumbered so if anyone starts acting up your fellow shoppers and the store staff quickly take care of the matter. I imagine that the typical shopper profile will turn more main-stream as the Wilson Yard project nears completion and Target opens next door. All of that said, I've never had a problem and have always felt safe when shopping there. I highly recommend the store! read more

As far as buying meat elsewhere, I disagree. I love the 4 lb frozen, skinless, boneless chicken breasts. They're in one bag but are frozen individually. I pull out one at a time, defrost in microwave, cook up with vegetables and sauce. It's a quick, nutritious, delicious, inexpensive meal. read more

alright i'm doing it! i am finally going to share my now-no-longer-secret-list-o-way-wacky-reasons why i so enjoy shopping at aldi....but particularly at THIS ALDI on broadway in uptown: a) the staff at this joint ROCK....and i mean rock hard: one time my debit card had expired and there i was with a cart load of perishables embarrassed for holding up the line, when the gracious checker guy just responded in utmost respect that he'd store my cart in the freezer room until i came back w/my other debit card or cash (they don't accept credit cards)....and when i returned, he took care of me pronto having saved my receipt and wasted not a moment to my relief....and this is but one small example of the respect and kindness and smiles i regularly observe to their customers (yes, even with the regulars who shop with their invisible buddy). b) the staff folk are beautiful -- inside and OUT....they obviously enjoy their work and one another and it shows loudly....i know this may be redundant w/my previous point, but they are nice....to LOOK at: their smiles, their demeanor, their attractive looks, my hubby jokes that i go there to flirt w/the handsome men who work there....YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN IF YOU'VE BEEN THERE....hello mister manager who should be a cover model....ok, let's get back on track here. c) i like their fit-n-lively line o' products. d) i like their ready-made instant iced tea & instant lemonade packets. e) i scoff every time i see the "sale" prices for kiwi or mangoes or vidalia onions or flash frozen tilapia fillets at other stores. f) i am one of those fiscal luddites who actually like to pay for what i eat in cash or plastic cash (debit card), and not rack up bills on plastic debt (credit cards). g) if you want THE least expensive, very passable vino & other related libations, you can go to some selected aldi stores and find truly impressive deals that would blow trader joe's and whatever-buck-chuck wines away. h) and speaking of trader joe's: to all those arrogant i-don't-want-to-mix-with-that-kind shoppers....guess what? aldi's OWNS trader joe's. yup. go check fer yerself ye doubting superficial trendy-holics. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/04_17/b3880016.htm so what, you say? well, the next time you're at t.j.'s or whole paycheck (a.k.a. whole foods) and you marvel at the friendliness of the staff there, go to this aldi store and you'll discover a team that is proud of their work yet humble in their service to all kinds of people. and those snooty skeptics may even re-learn that good ol' lesson: shopping beauty is only skin deep. read more

I had never been to an Aldi's before I started working at a place that did their advertising so I went for the first time. Then I was let go from that job and I HAD to shop there because I was out of a job and it's the cheapest place to buy groceries. I am working again and still go on a random occasion. Their merchandise is their own brand, sort of like a store's generic brand but even cheaper, however they will have some national brands once in a while. I have only been to this location in Chicago and another in Michigan. The clientele at this location makes me not want to step foot in an Aldi again. A lot of low-class people who can be rude at times if you even look at them and always a screaming kid in the small store. (I had someone mumble "move" to me once even though he was in my way.) I personally can eat cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner and seeing it is so expensive, I like Aldi for their cereal. Most of their items are prepared/processed (frozen, refrigerated) so don't plan on going with a list for a recipe. To get a cart, you need to put $.25 into the chain to release the cart and then you will get your quarter back when you hook the cart back up to the chain. It took me a couple visits to figure that out. Also, you need to bring your own bags or buy theirs for a small fee. The employees at this location have been very nice to me in the past. A manager even walked out with me to explain the cart deposit thing. read more

I'm a vegetarian who is generally health conscious and I love Aldi. That might surprise many because of the vast amount of processed cheap crap they have. However, in recent years they have begun to offer a lot of healthy, organic and vegetarian options. Frequently I find the exact same items being sold at Trader Joes, repackaged for Aldi, and for less money! The produce, both conventional and organic most often looks better than the same items found at Jewel or Dominicks. The shopping experience can often be less than relaxing, but better than a Trader Joes on the weekend. The checkout experience is akin to a gameshow where your purchases fly by the scanner and into your cart at lighting speed. If you have more than a bag of items, don't expect to be able to pack your items at the register, as there won't be enough time and you'll feel the pressure. There is enough space, including a counter to pack your groceries after you've paid for them. I supplement my grocery shopping experiences at Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Costco with Aldi, and nothing is less expensive. The quality of the items I purchase is generally excellent. Their "artisinal" french bread and baguettes are better than anywhere else outside of Paris. Both thin and rising crust pizzas are gourmet style and a superb value. Excellent fine cheeses. Money back guarantee for anything, so no risk in trying anything out. read more

Okay, I shop at Aldi and I'm not ashamed! For some reason, people seem to think that the food at Aldi is lower in quality than the food at Jewel or Dominick's. Not true. There is also a false impression that all aldi's food is highly processed. Well, if you are under that impression you may want to read a few labels, or simply choose food that isn't full of crap, which can easily be found here. The fit n active line rules. And folks, a bag of spinach is a bag of spinach whether it costs $1.99 or twice as much. The only difference would be if you are buying organic, and if you can afford that, then get thee to Whole Foods. I'm a freak about what I eat, so I only buy certain things here-but i stock up on tomato sauce, whole wheat pasta, frozen fish, orange juice, hummus, and plenty of fresh and frozen fruits and veggies. The meat here is the same as Jewel quality, but I have seen too many horrible things about the meat industry to buy my meat anywhere but the farmers market or whole foods. Oh! And they recently got baked potato chips, which are an indulgence for me, but once in a while I do like to make some onion dip and chow down on baked chips and onion dip. Yum. I guess I'd give Aldi 5 stars if I didn't shop elsewhere for meat and dairy, but even with the limited things I buy, their prices are the best. read more

Amazing prices!!! I went to it for the first time today after hearing a lot about it. It is a great place to go if you need to get fruits, vegetables and milk. It may be limited in the choices that it provides, but being on a student budget, it has all the essentials. I've been shopping at Jewel-Osco and Walmart all this time, and there is a big difference in the prices. Just remember to take a quarter to use the cart (you get the money back once you return it) and bring bags for your groceries. I read a post earlier about how some problems with the money, I used cash today and I received the right change back, but doesn't hurt to double check anyway. Definitely my new favorite grocery store! read more

At first I wasn't particularly impressed, but I must say that the prices are great, and in general the quality is good. Once you understand how things work (you need a quarter for the cart, and you bag your stuff), it is a good place to shop. Employees are usually nice, too. read more

Yes... I was skeptical. I had a certain perception of Aldi. I thought it would be a dirty, ghetto like store with lots of junk food. Well, it took a visit from my cousin from Italy to change those ideas. My Italian cousin wanted to visit Aldi in the worst way so we took a field trip over there. He wanted to buy BBQ sauce. Apparantly, they do not have BBQ sauce in Italy. Who knew? Anyway, Aldi is clean, organized and no-frill. You have to bring a quarter for your grocery cart and your own bags (or buy them for $.11 each). Be prepared to use cash or a debit card only. No credit cards or checks. The prices are amazing and the quality is very good. I bought a corned beef for a St. Patricks day dinner and it was outstanding and 1/2 the price of anywhere else. BTW, ladies, check out the beauty products. They are european made, good quality and dirt cheap. They have a cream cleanser and toner that rival the department stores for under $4.00. My Italian cousin told me about this too! read more

If you can't handle Aldi, I can't say I feel that sorry for you. The prices are great, comparable to a Wal-Mart or Costco. I started coming here picking up a random item or two, which then expanded to about a third of my groceries, and now it's up to about two thirds (with a combo of Jewel, Trader Joes, Target for the rest). Soon, maybe that number will get even higher. I've never had a bad experience - yes, there a few "interesting" shoppers, there is some disorganization, and sometimes you have to step over a few boxes on the floor, but you can find a pretty wide variety, with some healthy options on top of that. The cashiers have always been very nice. My only complaint is that they need to do a better job re-stacking their shelves at night, because they've been out of a few items from time to time. Also, they now take credit cards. Pro tip: if you forget your bags, grab some from Target across the street first and you are good to go. read more

I used to be an Aldi fanatic. I was not really thrilled with this one. They did not have a lot of options and although the prices are not bad, I've seen better. If you're looking for fresh produce and cheaper prices explore fresh farms. read more

I keep getting the cashier who short changes. The store does not steal from you, the cashiers do. Go somewhere else.

I must say... the produce is much better then the other ALDIs. For this area I come out of Lincoln Park to uptown to shop this ALDI. Now that's says it all. read more
