I mean it's not much you can say because most Aldi's are the same even if the layout is a little different. The store was clean and I liked they had the small roller carts if you didn't want to rent a regular cart for .25 cents. I find myself shopping at this one more since it is close to my church. I haven't met a cashier that wasn't nice even when we had a mishap with my purchase, but I will leave that between me and my cashier...lol but he fixed it in the end!!! All in all this is a clean and well stocked Aldi's and I will be back not just because it is convenient but because I haven't had one bad experience from the staff or other patrons. Enjoy! read more

I am super pro-Aldi. Just know you'll be adding a shopping trip to your weekly routine because you can't get everything here (i.e. there are not organic items here or name brand items) but you'll be adding about $50 to your pocket for every big shopping trip you do. It's science: every full cart seems to cost under $100. Get your basics: condiments, canned black beans, salsa, butter, eggs. Get your produce: mini sweet peppers, bananas, cucumbers. But do your best to keep your head held high....I once saw a co-worker here who told me she was only there to buy dog food. I pointed her to the pet food aisle and then realized she was holding the same ground beef as me. Yeah, it was embarassing but you know what is more embarassing? What is with all the hating on this Aldi? This is newly rennovated and super awesomely located across from Target. How could you not love this combination? Aldi is ALWAYS cheap and ALWAYS quality, which is key. Their food is great quality and they always have new things popping up all over the place. Get all of your staple items here and then head over to Jewel for produce or meat. Obviously, Aldi doesn't have a deli counter with the freshest stuff, so just walk over to another store for your other needs. Again, what is with the hating? It's a great place to buy groceries. They aren't kidding saying you can cut your bill in half. They are also very environmentally conscious and encourage that you bring your own bags. You are also welcome to grab empty boxes that they have and use those to take your groceries home. Prices are very low and generally out beat other stores. I do, however, tend to buy my meat and produce at other stores just because the quality here is just okay. I love buying my canned good here, for its generally under .99. This is a convenient location for it is located right by the Wilson el stop and has a bus route right in front of the store. There is a wide selection of goods ranging from foods, cleaning products, toiletries, to household goods. Also, bring a quarter if you plan on getting a cart. They use a quarter system here in order to reduce cart theft. Otherwise they have baskets for small shopping needs. read more

I visited ALDI at 4500 N Broadway today for my weekly grocery shopping. ALDI offers all that I need as my food supply at a great low prices. That's why I'm regular visitor. Unfortunately the customer service almost never is at satisfactory level. The AIDI cashier (Israel) today was angry, didn't great me, dropped some of the food on the floor multiple times and forcefully trow some of the items in the cart. The bananas that he trow become brown just hour after my visit. Very disappointed since experience like this one changes my entire perception about ALDI. read more

I shop at Aldi as much as I can - good food at cheap prices! However, last time I went into this location, there was a homeless guy eating food off the shelves, muttering "I'm too old for this sh**. My husband is from Northwest Indiana and his family shopped at Aldi's quite often. I was very curious about whether or not the Chicago ones had the same great quality and prices as the Indiana ones and I was not disappointed! I bought a whole lot of food including 3 huge fresh boneless skinless (non-frozen) chicken breasts for about 4, a package of fresh mushrooms for under $.50, tri colored peppers and lots of other fresh veggies, huge salmon filets, ground turkey and so much more for well under half of what I pay at Jewel for twice as much! The veggies were amazing, the chicken was so delicious and I will be shopping here first from here on out. If you're used to Jewel or Dominick's, you'll most likely need to to make two stops, but it's surely worth making Aldi's your first one! I went at about 2 on a Friday afternoon and I realize everyone doesn't have the flexibility to go then, but I had no problem with overcrowding for the 'locals'. Check it out! read more

I decided that it's time for me to cut back, balance my budget, and keep better track of what I'm spending my money on. As a result, I am giving up my weekly trips to Whole Foods and was in search of some more budget friendly groceries. I had heard people talk about how great Aldi is and so I thought I would give them a try. When I first walked into Aldi, my initial thought was "this is why Americans are so fat." The first aisle is nothing but over processed foods with too much sugar, but they were really cheap....so...there you go... I'm a girl who likes to eat healthy and most of things at Aldi didn't appeal to me. I did find some great deals on frozen seafood and household staples like toilet paper, but the produce section was appalling and I didn't find anything else that I would consider eating. The store was nicely kept and if I were shopping for a family on a budget I would be all over this stuff, but I'm not. Sorry Aldi. read more

In Michigan we have these stores called Sav-a-Lot and I would never be caught dead in... well unless I was using a bridge card aka welfare. So one hungover Sunday i decided to make the trek to the Aldi, being fed up with the ridiculous prices that "Gay Jewel" (Jewel on Broadway) was charging me! For Christ sake how can somebody pay $75 and walk out with three bags of groceries??? Lets begin: I road the Broadway bus to Aldi and along the way there were tons of crazies per usual and omg there was a homeless guy that had poop stains on the back of his shirt and the bus driver was heaving, haha. I got off at my appropriate stop and I almost did not notice the Aldi, they need a bigger sign! Walking in I was very unsettled to notice that the Aldi store was much like the Sav-a-Lot, I preceded with caution! To my utter surprise there were so many options, yes, i would not by fresh deli meat there or anything, but hell, a bag of blue corn chips for $.99 you have to be kidding me! They have a healthy line call "Fit & Active" what an added bonus! My cart was overflowing.... I spent $104 and had over ten bags of groceries. Thank you Jesus... for Aldi. Ignore the decor. FYI my cashier was more pleasant and helpful then any head case that works at the "Gay Jewel". read more

I've been to a few Aldi stores before, but never the one in my neighborhood. My experiences at Aldi have often been kind of depressing, and this area of Uptown can be kind of a freak show. But I'm looking to cut my expenses, so I figured I'd give my local Aldi a try. So I stopped in for milk and eggs on my way home from work on a Wednesday night. This new-ish store was noticeably brighter than other Aldi stores I've been in. And it wasn't too crowded. The other customers were more friendly than those at the local Jewel, and so were the employees! I ended up buying much more than just milk and eggs. Hummus, yogurt, and cereal for a steal! I wouldn't count on finding everything on your shopping list, but you can certainly stock up on cheap eats. I'm still am impressed by the quarter-deposit system on the carts. I'll be back! read more

It's my neighborhood Aldi. I shop here because I am cheap and like to consider myself poor but the government tells me otherwise. Yes the parking lot is littered with junkies. Yes they will ask for change. I live here so I'm used to homeless junkies but I give my money to my favorite bums, the aldi bums get nothing from me. The grocery store is pretty awesome for pantry staples, meat, breads, cheeses and believe it or not...home goods. I have purchased amazing Tupperware, rugs, humidifiers, toys, and a beautiful le cruset dupe Dutch oven. The home goods change weekly and they hardly duplicate items so if you see something, buy it. You'll never see it again. The food is off brand but tastes EXactly the same. I am convinced it's the same company as the brand name, just distributed under a different name. This is a German company and they put a lot of emphasis on European deli meats and cheeses. They have a lot of good items here if you look. You can't do all your grocery shopping here, but can get away with 80% of your grocery needs. Produce has been getting better but still has a long way to go. The staff is funny. They deal with a bunch of whack jobs daily but manage to be engaging and cheery. There is a Filipina lady and I'm assuming a biracial woman with beautiful black curly hair that are pretty comical. If you are poor or cheap and don't mind being around a real inner city feel, stop on by. read more

I do not see why, unless limited by geographic distance, people do not shop at Aldi. I went to this specific location, and here are some things I found: -wild caught frozen salmon -huge bags of stevia (organic low-cal sugar alternative) -boxes of individual packets of stevia -generic veggie burgers -soy milk -Boca veggie chicken patties -35-calorie-per-slice bread that I honestly think tastes better than other bread All this, among all the other food staples I'd get anywhere else. The 35 calorie bread is reason enough to go here! I wish other stores sold it. It tastes better than Wonder Bread or any other bread I've tried, but it's cheaper and so much less calories. The veggie burgers do not taste quite as good as other more expensive brands, but the price is so low I don't care. I appreciate that they at least have a lot of low-cost niche products. I also noticed a lot of gluten free stuff if you're into that. If I could give a 6th star I would, just because the checkout process is so refreshingly fast. Waiting in line at the grocery store is the worst. The cashiers here really rush to check people out. It's great! It's in Uptown though so be careful going there at night. Also the produce section is small. But the pros far outweigh the cons. Nowhere else has better value. read more

I've been living in Chicago for a couple of months and have been experimenting with grocery stores to see which one was the right one for me. Whole Foods is too expensive for my taste but they sell good quality, Dominick's can be good sometimes but they really trick you into spending a whole lot of money by offering you free stuff, Jewel is the kind of chain I hate going to because you think it's a reasonable price but it's still overpriced and Target sells their stuff really cheap too but it's not the best place to shop for you whole grocery list. As soon as I walked into this Aldi...I knew this was gonna be my place. I never buy brand-name products because they are ridiculously over-priced and always go for the store-brand. Everything on this place is so cheap and the product is so good. I wouldn't change it for anything. Before here, I couldn't really stock up my kitchen in fear of having to spend half my paycheck on groceries alone. I now go here and just grab everything I want and need and never spend more that $70! I frickin' LOVE Aldi's! Oh and also bring your own bags! They charge you 8¢ per bag...but I must say, their bags are awesome! Really sturdy and you can fit sooo much in only one of these bags! read more

You are kind of dumb if you DON'T go to Aldi these days---at least for your staple foods. Yes, if you don't bring your own bags, you have to buy them. Yes, you have to put a deposit down(a quarter) for a cart. Yes, you have to bag (or box) your own groceries. But in my opinion, it's all worth it. Plus, I think I bag my items better than the people at Jewel usually do. Aldi has great deals and you can come out spending half what you would have at Jewel or Dominicks with the same amount (or more) of groceries. It can be pretty packed and there are usually long lines, but they go super fast considering the person checking you out is only scanning the items and putting them back in the carts and you don't have to wait for them to be bagged. They don't have the largest produce section, but I think it is improving. I had to subtract a star because I wasn't too impressed with the cleanliness of the store the last time I went. Someone had spilled some sort of cake and I ended up biffing it in the middle of the frozen foods aisle. Not cute. read more

So normally I'd give this Aldi a 3.5 to 4 star review; however, I did go in today (as I do often for my work which is a non-profit social service agency) to purchase 400 hot dogs with buns and 100 hamburgers with buns. I easily obtained the hot dogs and burgers, but when I tried to load the cart with the buns, someone who worked there told me that I could not purchase the buns. When I asked what the problem was, he replied, "This is our stock. This is all we have." I said, "Well, this is a STORE where things are for sale. I should be able to purchase whatever you have in stock." He said I could purchase only 5 packages and that I should have called a week in advance to place an order. Never in the years that I have been coming here for work have I encountered this. Each week someone from my work comes to this store to purchase this amount of stock and we've never been stopped from purchasing items. So I took my business elsewhere. RUDE! read more

Ok, so we are in tough economic times, and I have to say that Aldi is a great deal if you are looking to save money on food! I especially like the Aldi near uptown on Broadway because the cashiers and staff are friendly and helpful. For example, I like to cook whole chickens in the crock pot and use them for different meals during the week, and Aldi has the best prices for such dishes. Aldi on Broadway can get very packed and busy between 5-7pm, and at during the 1st three days of the month. Aldi is actually a German owned company, which has been prospering during the current economic turmoil. You can also find savings on Fish, Lunch Meat, Bread and even Milk. I would reccomend this place to anyone who wants to save cash on groceries. read more

Unfortunately, there was not an option of zero stars. Aldi corporate policy is to NOT publish their phone numbers. YOU CANNOT CALL THE STORE - ONLY THEIR CORPORATE COMPUTER AND GO THROUGH THEIR BULLSH*T TO EVEN GET TO ANYONE. So what if you have an emergency? Tough luck. My husband went shopping for me a few blocks from our home (we are seniors but still pretty active). However, we both are diabetics and he had a severe low sugar while in their store. He was trying to call me but barely able to think what to do. Once we connected, I could tell what was happening and tried to tell him to grab something off the shelf to eat, which he couldn't follow. I tried to get him to give his phone to a clerk or customer and he couldn't follow that either. I had to hang up and try and call the store to have them help him because he was close to passing out and then if he didn't get help, he could have died. Needless to say, I didn't find a phone number. The only recourse was to run to the store and hope I got there in time. By the time I got there, he was leaning against a post, with his eyes closed and completely incoherent. I will NEVER shop at an Aldi store again. read more

They only take cash or debit cards, and be sure to bring your own grocery bags if you go. These are the things that keep costs low. Staff is nice, too, which makes the experience easier. I love ALDI. Sure it's no frills and it can be a little hard to find what you are looking for, but the price points you can get for their goods is fantastic. Also they seem to be getting more organic and healthy options, which is a huge win (organic 2% milk for two dollars and change, as opposed to nearly double at Marianos and most other grocers). Also it looks like they've really stepped up their fresh produce game, which is another big win. So happy that I live just down the street from this location, will be saving more money in the future here! read more

I agree that there's alot of processed food here, but it's a great place to buy your processed food. Their produce lacks, but the bananas are cheap. Their frozen food section has good meats and quick meals for those once in a blue moon times I buy an already prepared meal. It's great for nuts, crackers, dried fruit, cereal. Very cheap dairy as well. If you you stick with your produce somewhere else, you should be set. read more

I never shop here EVER. For the following reasons. Every single time my boyfriend and I go we will get double charged for everything we buy. Or something will be damaged and we never notice till we get home. We usually shop and Jewel since it's a block away. Two weeks ago we decide we will use the car for once and drive to aldi. When we went to check out the cashier told us our debt card was denied. We told the cashier it was impossible we definitely had at-least a thousand in there and the total was 50 dollars. They tell us they will hold our stuff for twenty minutes while we go to an ATM. We decided we would leave and go figure out what was going on by visiting the bank. They bank then informed us that Aldi charged 400 dollars to our card. The bank thought our card was stolen and froze and canceled our card until a new one arrived in the mail. As of a result we will never return to Aldi again. We spent nearly 400 dollars on groceries we didn't receive. They need to get their act together and get better cashiers that know what they are doing. read more

This is a great aldi location. It is clean and organized. They always have what I'm looking for including seasonal and special items. I bought some very high quality Mother's Day cards there for .99! I have been dying to check out this Aldi location for some time now, and finally had the chance a few weekends ago. I wanted to "introduce" one of my friends to Aldi, since he had never been. I explained to him that they are so much nicer than about 10 years ago. You get so much for your money. This location is really nice. My only criticism is that the neighborhood is a little rough; it's sort of going through a transition so it looks all fabulous from Broadway but then when you pull in the parking lot, it's a little shady so just be careful. Maybe going with a friend is a good thing (safety in numbers!). -And there are always your random strange characters inside too. But if you get in, get your stuff and get out, it's worth the money you save as compared to other major grocery stores. I filled my chart and my friend was shocked when the grand total was only $60! The newer and/or remodeled stores are def the way to go! They are cleaner, more organized and have a better selection of healthier choices. Nice location! read more

Ummmmmmmmm....So yea Aldi. Is there any sort of method or organization to where you put things? No? Didn't think so. I walked in and about 5 minutes later I walked out with nothing. I suspect the low prices are worth it if I have 2 hours to peruse and figure out where things are, but generally speaking no. Not so much. Cheap cheap cheap groceries not just when they want to off load old stock, but all the time! It's the one place you can count on to be cheaper overall if you went in to buy everything on your shopping list at that one place and not just whatever was on sale for that store. The only downsides to ALDI is that they don't take credit cards (but debit cards work) and the selection isn't the greatest, but they definitely try to stay ahead of consumer trends with new things in the seasonal section. This is one of the middle aisles with non-food items such as garden chairs and some name brand food items. The employees at this ALDI are very nice and efficient workers. They know exactly how to place scanned items in the baskets and carts so things don't get wrecked, but can still maintain their speed in getting people through the checkout line. read more

I love Aldi, and this location is my favourite. It's very clean and bright, and the prices are great! I live alone, so I never need a cart, and I bring my own bags. The selection is pretty good--I can get almost all my grocery shopping done here, with the exception of some produce and other perishables. The cashier was friendly and fast, and I was in and out in about fifteen minutes at just before 5pm on a week night! Minus one star because the parking lot, which is under the El tracks, is DARK. It's exactly what you'd get at Jewel or Dominick's, just with a different label on it. Trust me, I was a huge skeptic, but have converted now. They don't have everything, but have lots of staple types of items. Often you'll pay half the price of what you'd pay for a brand name product elsewhere. I paid 89 cents for sour cream today. Would have cost over 2 dollars at Jewel for the same size. I bought several canned veggies to make soup, and they were each 59 cents, and at Jewel, would have cost 1.29 each. It's great to have extra money in the budget for more food, or to use somewhere else. Try not to be intimidated by the dingy store and weird patrons at this location. to be happy here - you have to know the game. no, you shouldn't pick up the 1000 processed food options, but you should look for the CHEAP prices on the basics flour, sugar, oil, milk, eggs, cheese..... this should be your first stop and then fill in the holes from a bigger store (Jewel - YUCK!) and the best is when you score on the special buys like leg of lamb, crab legs, pickled asparagus. if you go on the right day (when they receive delivery) the produce can't be beat. they carry a good mix of fruit & vegi and they are much cheaper. you won't find everything here but that's exactly why you get limes for .10 if you like to cook from your pantry this is a great place to stock up - shop with an open mind : ) read more
