Me and the boyf have been determined to buy all our fruit and veg from here because it's yummy and local and they're the only one I know of that accept Bristol pounds. We are starting to juice too and this would be costing a lot more if we were buying from a supermarket. There's something really satisfying and almost smug about buying really fresh, a little bit more grubby and wonky, and a whole lot more delicious produce from the greengrocers! They also do little extra treats like jam and chutney!

I'm on a mission at the moment to use supermarkets as little as possible. Spurned on by my love of…read moreThe Bristol Pound and supporting local, independent businesses - I've found my greengrocer, and I love it! Here you'll find wonky carrots, dirty potatoes and odd shaped oranges; just how the come out of the ground (or tree) and how they should be. Gardeners Patch sell pretty much any standard fruit and veg you would want. You wont find too much international out of the ordinary, but you will find inspiration if you're trying to think of a meal to cook. The staff are really nice and very helpful. I asked lots of potato related questions: best for mashing, roasting etc and they were happy to help. I've by a weeks worth (2 bigs bags) of fruit and veg for less than £10 each time I go. They accept Bristol Pounds and 'Text to Pay'

If you love funny-shaped vegetables with the mud still on them, if you love the idea of eating wild boar or pheasant, if you love the idea of Indian food for breakfast, if you love beautifully presented and tasting coffee (for £1.50 a cup), if you love great big lumps of homemade bread, if you love bottled-conditioned beers from microbreweries (£2 a bottle from the Untapped Brewing Company stand) or if you love fresh and authentic falafel, then this should be your destination on a Saturday morning. Yeah, there are one too many people sporting flat caps or dreadlocks or letting little Tarquin run around instead of taking them to get his hair cut, but it's worth it for the quality produce and more than reasonable prices available here.

It has something for everyone, I find there's slightly fewer stalls here but its equally as busy. As ever with farmers markets I buy more cheese than I can really eat and give lots away. Good fresh meat selection and beautiful bread too. Nice to have a place to sit down and have a cup of tea while you take in the atmosphere. Its is open pretty earlier but its not a bad way to start the weekend and you can buy everything you need for the best cooked breakfast on Sunday mornings!

I tend to buy basic unprocessed ingredients rather than prepared food so I was pleased to see good quality fish (in clear bags so you can see the contents not just a picture) meat and vegetables. I bought the smoked haddock (2 packs for £5) and they were much better quality than the expensive options from Tesco or Asda and were much nicer than the Lidl ones. Also bought a frozen pizza for our son and was very impressed by the quality it cost £1 and tasted and looked better than expensive ones we've purchased from other supermarkets. Son thought it was better than a Pizza Hut one :) I also bought a pack of 8 seafood sticks for 29p (hadn't had them for years and the price was irresistible) which weren't the nicest I'd ever tasted but once they had lemon juice on were perfectly okay and given the price one can't quibble have spent more before now on similar and had worse. The staff were considerate and polite and welcoming and I think it might have been the manager who noticed us leaving and said goodbye to us! Will be using them again and often. Great quality at pleasingly low prices can't argue with that.
