The taste of D Prings products are truly awesome if you wanna impress people with your BBQ skills half the battles in selecting the right meat. The queues are quickly serviced so you don't have to wait long. The butchers were friendly enough and the price was very good I go there whenever I want a good BBQ selection. The best cuts are always available so if you want it just ask, they'll come back with a great steak. I had 8 1/4 pounders and 12 sausages for just over £5 that's great value for money.

Ahhh, butchers. It takes me back to shopping trips with my grandmother, these places do. There'd be…read morea monumental trek up Cathedral Road that would seem to take weeks, but knowing my grandmother's hatred for physical exertion, probably only took an hour or so. We'd maybe stop into a cafe for egg and chips and my nan would, of course, know the owner. We'd go to a couple of pound shops. Not to look about, mind you. But because my nan wanted very specific things from there. And then, before heading to the bus stop, we'd go to the butchers "to pick up something for our tea". That was the routine. And now that I'm an adult myself, I can't help but smile whenever I dive in to grab a steak "for my tea". Of course, that smile also comes from the fact that in this particular butcher, it's not uncommon to see the meat cut right in front of you if you go at the right time of the day. There's something visceral and satisfying about watching your food being sliced up right in front of you. It's like being primal by proxy. And the prices on top of this... they're just the greatest thing ever. Buying a steak big enough to beat a man to death with for pocket change gives an immense amount of satisfaction. And then heading back to the cave with a hunk of meat over your shoulder? You feel like a hunter. What's not to love?

One of the main reasons that they have maintained such a successful business for so long is their commitment to quality and stocking meats that the locals and Cardiff as a whole appreciate. This includes carrying the meat products from regionally farmed animals such as, welsh beef, welsh lamb, free range poultry, and free range woodland pork, (the latter being their speciality). The level of service that you receive at this butchers is second to none, and acts as a real sweetener considering that the price tags are slightly higher than you would see in lesser establishments. Advice is liberally provided including how to select the right cut of meat for your needs, as well as recommendations on how to cook it. They will even suggest the best ways to store the meat, and get the most out of your purchase for your money... using the bones to make stock etc... This is a great family business!

Their gammon and cooked meats are second to none. Having a specialist independent pork butcher on my doorstep is a real privilege. I have lived in London and travelled all over the world but I think the quality of the food served here is comparable with anywhere in the country. When i first visited the floors were wooden and had sawdust on them. Clifton Street was a thriving shopping area then too. A lot has changed but Todd's has managed to stay reassuringly the same. All the produce is freshly made or cooked on the premises and includes ham, pork, gammon, sausages, faggots, dripping, chitlings pork pies, brawn and polony. They also sell cooked chicken, and my personal favourites tongue and salt beef. Perhaps someone should give Jamie Oliver a call...?

Since becoming a vegetarian, people always ask me if I miss eating meat and the answer is always…read moreno. That said, I really do miss cooking meat and have been known to make, quite literally, the most gorgeous crackling in a 10 mile radius. With summer upon us it's time to get the roman pizza oven/bbq in the back garden going and my mum has stumbled upon something great down at Vic Hopkins. They do really great BBQ meat, pre marinated and packaged up ready to just chuck over the coals. Our carnivorous guests always absolutely love them and the smell of lamb and mint wafting from the garden is almost enough to lure me back to the dark side. If that doesn't indicate just how good the produce is here, nothing will...

For me, stumbling upon a butcher shop is a stark reminder that yes, this Yank's not in Kansas…read moreanymore. Up until a few years ago, I only satisfied my carnivorous cravings by purchasing the shrink-wrapped offering from the local grocery store. Shameful, I know. I've bought two steaks from Vic's before, but ended up freezing them because I was too lazy to cook (story of my life!). I'll be sure to post an update once I actually eat them. Judging by the look of them though, these babies are sure to be the cornerstone of a tantalising dinner. If you're not a sirloin fan, Vic Hopkins & Sons offer a range of delights, from sausage and lamb to homemade faggots and pork pies. If you eat meat, then there's probably something delectable here for you. Vic Hopkins & Son also offer a delivery service throughout the greater Barry area.

Bryngwenyn Farm is just as steeps writes and in a beautiful spot, I would definitely recommend its' location for a peaceful getaway with its' holiday cottages and b and b with the great advantage of the fabulous mainly organic farmshop with wonderful proper organic and freerange eggs(delicious for breakfast today). As well as doing a good shop there, we bought the aforementioned sausages, pork etc some wonderful organic vegetables, we had delicious home made cake and tea so definitely a step up from the usual supermarket venture.

It is a bit off the beaten track so we had never seen it before, but we were pleasantly surprised. The shop itself is tiny, but still seems to hold plenty of goodies. There is a freezer full of meat (including the best sausages we have ever tasted), a fridge packed with cheese, yoghurt, milk and more, another freezer with bread, icecream and frozen fruits, a fruit and vegetable section and then shelves full of everything you can think of. They even stock Ecover products so if you are looking to avoid the supermarket, this is the place to go. Their home-milled flour is well worth a try and makes delicious bread. The shop is also a cafe and is laid out with a few tables. If you are looking for something different, they sell Alpaca wool gloves and hats! The rest of the farm includes holiday cottages and animals to see as well as the flour mill. I am tempted to sign up for one of the bread making courses. It is in an idyllic spot too with gorgeous views and a posse of sheep to greet you as you make your way down the track!
