Its lovely to have a shop like this about. They seem to be dying out, but this one seems to be going strong. They have quite a vast array of fruit and vegetables, all self service and sold by weight. There is also a tend towards the seasonal, so you never quite know what you're going to find in there (unless you're Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall)
The fruit and veg often looks a little, well, tired, but it is ok because you can pick the good ones and leave the less appealing bits - the joy of not having everything prepackaged.
It is also possible to pop in and buy one of something. I needed a carrot once. I lived alone and needed it for a recipe, so wandered in and bought one carrot. Just the one. It was quite big, but not a raised eyebrow, a minimum spend or a fight with trolleys. Hail the green grocer! read more
