It doesn't have an official name, and there are no published contact details for the place either. But this is of little consequence, the business has occupied this spot on Wellfield Road for as long as anyone can remember, and has been patronised by the locals in their hoards, as the pictures I've supplied bares testimony to... Being a licensed concession allows it to trade without need for an address, and as long as it is not taken beyond the boundaries of the licence agreement, it can be put anywhere where the owners wish to site the mobile stall. But, come rain or shine, you will find it in the same place, selling very reasonably priced perishables that are always incredibly fresh. They occasionally carry organic items, but are reliant on what's available at the suppliers, so they tend to stock goods that are in season that carry an affordable price tag. Nevertheless, they always have a good variety of fruit and veg on offer, even if one or two items are not always consistently available.

I'd be dragged to my grampy's favourite seller, whom he knew personally and from whom I always got a free apple. My dad would cart me around car boot sales, talking to sellers about what they've got and what's just come in and what's in season. I was made to carry potato sacks from these places with my nan. The huge range of produce which was always fruit and never chocolate, and their weird, braying voices always made me hate them as a child. As an adult though, I find myself drawn to these kinds of stalls because I have since become healthy, as adults are meant to be, and my desire for chocolate has decreased. I spent a year living just across the road from this stall, and it never failed to satisfy. Like all fruit stalls, the range can vary depending on the season and what he's been able to get hold of, but the prices and the range are fantastic and you get a wonderful sense of achievement from shopping here that Tesco and Morrison's just don't give you.

If you love funny-shaped vegetables with the mud still on them, if you love the idea of eating wild boar or pheasant, if you love the idea of Indian food for breakfast, if you love beautifully presented and tasting coffee (for £1.50 a cup), if you love great big lumps of homemade bread, if you love bottled-conditioned beers from microbreweries (£2 a bottle from the Untapped Brewing Company stand) or if you love fresh and authentic falafel, then this should be your destination on a Saturday morning. Yeah, there are one too many people sporting flat caps or dreadlocks or letting little Tarquin run around instead of taking them to get his hair cut, but it's worth it for the quality produce and more than reasonable prices available here.

It has something for everyone, I find there's slightly fewer stalls here but its equally as busy. As ever with farmers markets I buy more cheese than I can really eat and give lots away. Its is open pretty earlier but its not a bad way to start the weekend and you can buy everything you need for the best cooked breakfast on Sunday mornings!

In fact, this is such a permanent and well loved fixture of the Cardiff local flavour, that even when the market is not in session, you'll find a series of fruit and vegetable sculptures in the same spot. These cross sections of cucumbers and apples can be looked through to see the grand Millennium Stadium beyond. If you're a fan of keeping your carbon footprint as small as possible, then this is the place for you. All of the products on sale here are very high quality and extremely local. This is a fantastic way to while away a Sunday afternoon. The only problem is that I'd like it to be larger with a better selection!

It was perfect for a lazy, sunny, Sunday. I have to admit I didn't end up buying much apart from bread and cakes, but they did have a huge selection of cheeses and deli style foods across the 30 odd stalls. It also has craft stores and flowers and really, really good coffee. This is probably not the place for people on a budget to do the weekly shop but a great place to pick up some really special ingredients and a fantastic way to spend an afternoon away from the city centre. It's therefore rather nice to see that Market Garden is still surviving, a quite impressive feat considering that it's next door to Tesco Metro. The staff are in my experience incredibly nice, the food is all most fresh (their oranges are so succulent), and the prices aren't too high. Long may Market Garden continue!

It finds itself right next to the Tesco Metro in a wonderful contrast between big business and local shopkeepers. As with every comparison ever made between the two, the local business is a lot friendlier and personal. In my opinion the produce doesn't look as good as the stuff in Tesco but that could be down to years of getting waxed covered apples and perfectly shaped bananas from supermarkets. Yet when it comes to the crunch (arf!) there's no difference in flavour or quality. Indeed there's little difference in cost or choice either. I'd go so far to say that the Market Garden stock more unusual (and at times frankly terrifying) produce than Tesco carry. So let us savour the wonky vegetables and the polite conversation about the weather or the football and head on down to the Market Garden.

And, yeah, believe the hype. This was one of the best things we ate in Wales (and it was vegan!). We did the Build A Bowl and chose 1) half pilav rice and half plain chips topped with 2) coconut dal and 3) cauli kemp. It was rich, creamy, and an absolute explosion of flavor! I regret sharing this with my partner, so - PRO TIP - get your own. Pierogi (4) - first floor, 213 - 217: Polish pierogis. These fresh dumplings prepared daily using their family's special recipe are DELICIOUS. We tried the vegan ones, which at the time were roasted buckwheat with onion and mushroom sauce. So, so good. There's usually five-ish flavors to choose from, and I think they come in two portions (small with four pierogies; large with seven pierogies). Cardiff Bakestones (4) - ground floor, 161 - 165: Known for their Welsh cakes (which are kind of like a scone or a biscuit; softer and slightly sweet, they're baked round with a crinkly edge. Cardiff Bakestones has LOTS of different flavors (like salted caramel, nutella, lemon curd, chocolate chip, etc.) and also vegan and gluten-free options. Located in the centre of the Old Arcade, it may have a different name - but this is how I know it. The people who served me were wonderful. Not only were they friendly, but they recommended different cheeses. I just wanted a bit of cheese but they were so knowledgable that I would feel comfortable just asking them to give me a selection, if I had to impress the Queen with my cheeseboard.

T&A Stores can be seen to be a central, focal point for the student population of Cathays (well, there are always groups of them hanging around outside, anyway). They have everything you could ever want, well as a student anyway; booze, fags, food, stuff you forgot to get on your last trip to Tescos etc. etc. I was really pleased when i popped in there during a night out at CAI. Not only did they have the baccy I liked, the papers I liked, the mints and a smiling man behind the counter, they also had little footsy things to put on to stop my shoes rubbing. Saved my night! This is what convenience stores should be like. With convenient things in them! And, and this is the best bit, there is a cash machine outside that doesn't charge. And, if this is busy (with students mainly) THERE IS ANOTHER ONE INSIDE! Amazing. Whoever T&A are, they're a genius. Every student night out starts at T&A stores and ends in his kebab shop across the road!
