These places always present me with a dilemma. On the one hand, I want to support independent greengrocers, and I know that there are all kinds of reasons why I should buy my fruit and veg here instead of next door in Tesco.
On the other hand, it doesn't actually taste any different, it doesn't save me any money and it doesn't last as long. Oh, and I don't get any Clubcard points from shopping there.
Where I choose to shop all depends really on what I'm shopping for. Supermarkets have succeeded over independent stores because you can buy everything in one go, and I for one hate having to go to more than one shop. If I'm just buying fruit and veg, though, I'm usually more inclined to get it all here. That's a lie, actually, as I'd prefer to get it at the stall on Wellfield Road, but if I'm at this end of Albany Road I don't mind shopping here.
I don't want to be too negative as this is a good greengrocers and there's a nice variety of produce that's usually of a pretty good size. But, it has good days and bad days, and whether you like it rather depends on what you're looking for. It shouldn't be ignored though. read more
