My first time visiting this Aldi's was satisfactory. I was able to get a grocery cart left near where I was parked. I found items at half the price of one of the best grocery supermarkets I frequent. Fresh fruits and vegetables at half the price of most grocery stores. I selected items I don't see at other grocery stores from Aldi like Pad Thai noodles and lobster cakes. I noticed a lot of Christmas inventory like wine advent calendars were almost sold out. Service was hardly available. Ambiance was satisfactory. The layout here didn't flow naturally and I had to walk around a bit to find the specific items I needed. Do I like this Aldi? Kind of. Am on this side of Fairfax occasionally. It does have the best prices. Often I'll stop in for a salad and yogurts. As expected there are long lines. They save money with no express checkout, so do expect this if in a hurry. They have some good coffee too. As inflation pinches us, it helps the wallet a bit. Also I really like their fish dinners. Today was the first time that I have visited this particular location, and I needed to come here to do my shopping for next week. I was actually off from work today, so I figured I would get my grocery shopping done early instead of the weekend. Some of the items that I needed were oranges. Bananas, lunch!eat consisting of packaged salami. crimson cranberry cheese, raisin bran cereal, Tropicana orange juice, and a gallon of 1% low-fat milk. While I was walking through the aisles I also found canned tuna, dill spears pickles, and a box of coffee cakes. I have always been perplexed as to why these stores carry appliances, bed comforters, and children's toys. From what I saw, they have just three big aisles dedicated to only food. I have always thought that they limited space that they have would be better served with selling only grocery items and food. I shop ALDIs a lot as an Instacart shopper. This store is ok as far as Aldi's goes, there are much nicer ones. The thing I like as an IC shopper is the limited selections, makes replacing an item easy, either they have or the don't....and the cashiers are ridiculously fast and always polite. Until today..... I was shopping for two separate customers, so I need to keep items separated to purchase and bag (I had larger order in bottom and smaller order in the area where kids ride). Once the cashier stopped shooting the shot with customer in front of me (which was an ordeal in itself) I told the cashier I had 2 separate orders. She rang up the first and put in main part of cart. When she began the second order, she started throwing items in with the first! I said, no I need to keep separate. Her reply (rudely) "you can separate when you bag." SERIOUSLY, I can't remember what I was doing 5 mins ago, no way I'll get those orders in correct bags. I said, it's Instacart and they are different customers. "That is not my problem, that is Instacart's problem.! " This back and forth went on for several more sentences. She is the ONLY cashier who has had an issue with this. Ever other cashier either places bags between orders or puts second order in the top. I've even had 3 shops and they (without asking) keep separated! I think I need to just become a hermit, because the more I have interaction with folks like her, the more I just want to punch them! read more

I feel like Aldi's has a cult following for the people who love it. The two I've been to so far have not sold me. This was is technically the closest grocery store to my house, so I occasionally come here simply due to distance, but still weary. It feels like if TJ Maxx and Costo wanted to have a grocery store baby. It's somewhat warehouse feeling, a little disorganized, and they have bulk items of stuff I assume no one else wanted. Having moved from Alabama where the store is in a brand new building, it's hard to give an unbiased assessment. It is clear the exterior of this location is new but the interior is not. Perhaps this location was a refit from another grocery store? Anyway, the selection is decent and I could see that staff were working hard to keep produce stocked. The onions, however, were very bruised. That was disappointing. The gentleman who checked out my goods was accommodating when I pointed out that two of my items were 50% off. He even thanked me for pointing it out! From what I can tell, ALDI's prices are the lowest of all the major chains in the area. Don't forget your quarter! read more

I don't live near Aldi, but I discovered it while visiting my parents in Centreville and I've been a fan ever since. So I'll occasionally schlep south from time to time to get my Aldi fix. It's a rather austere German grocery chain, but looks can deceive -- it's similar to its sister company Trader Joe's in that nearly everything in the store is a generic store brand, but of impressive quality and a much lower price than store brands elsewhere. Aldi keeps their prices so low by cutting costs in other ways: you're required to bring your own bags (or you can use the spare cartons they have, if you forget yours), you deposit a quarter to get a shopping cart and get your quarter back upon returning the cart (so that the staff doesn't have to retrieve the carts), and you have to pay by cash or debit card. I don't consider any of these things inconveniences, since I try to do these things wherever I shop. 'Cause I'm nice like that. But I'll tell you what I really love about Aldi: their chocolate. The brand is called Choceur, a steal at $2 a bar, and made with rich, silky German chocolate. While American brands like Hershey's taste more like sugar and corn syrup than chocolate and are much too sweet for my liking, Choceur tastes like some real freaking chocolate. And their individually-wrapped milk creme bars remind me of Kinder chocolates, which brings back happy childhood memories. read more

This place is a hidden shopping gem that is sure to satisfy all your grocery needs. Everything, from produce to cool treats, is an excellent example of what a company can do for its customers. I believe this is a German chain, and the food selections and checkout lines seem to embrace the Germans' love of efficiency. As much as I love this place, its location is a little sketchy. Rt 1 has always had its cast of characters, and this area is no exception, so you might find some people hanging about the outside of the store from time to time. If only it was a little closer to where I live, this is where I'd regularly shop. Well, except for the dearth of a few brand names. This is a German-owner co so expect to see things like European chocolate (mmm) and they also have a nicely priced if relatively small selection of wines and sparkling wines. You can get most of your grocery list for a lot less here - milk, fruit, vegetables, etc.. but the brand names when it comes to things like frozen foods won't be what you see at places like Safeway. Still, I'd argue the quality is the same. The deal is here you bring your own bags; this is part of what keeps the prices down. If u don't have your own grocery bags, Aldi sells some nice big bags that I find myself using at home in various ways. Very practical. And, to get your grocery cart, you put a quarter in the slot, and the cart comes out of the bested carts. Then to get your quarter back, you must or your cart back nested in with the other carts, and your quarter will pop back out. All in all I really like Aldi; wish I got down there more often! read more

Snobs won't like Aldi. The German-owned grocer is a small version of a Costco-type store. Food & other items are still in their shipping boxes (boxes ARE open) & stored on plainer shelves. Shoppers do not have to pay extra for glitzy signs, high-priced name brands, or shopping bags (bring your own). So yes, some people think the place is ugly. You want pretty, go to an art museum. Aldi is clean, the staff I've met are friendly & courteous, & the products carried are excellent. Come on, the place is owned by GERMANS; they'd be mortified if the food quality was poor! Of course you will find many European products, & Europe has higher food quality standards than the U.S. Yet when I compared equal food orders that I bought @ Safeway &, a week later, Aldi, Aldi came in at about 66% of the Safeway. That is, $66 spent at Aldi would require $100 @ Safeway for the same things. But DO NOT FORGET to bring your own grocery bags, because Aldi only has the kind you'd have to buy. Worth it? Oh, yeah. The Ups: Great prices and the atmosphere is like the antithesis of Whole Foods. The Downs: Doesn't take credit cards and doesn't have everything I need. You will save money at Aldi. I shopped at the military commissary before this and going to Aldi saves me more money. (Yes!) And the people and experience of shopping there is amazingly awesome. Everything I dislike about other markets-not here! It is quiet (no pop music over the loudspeaker). No screaming children and pandering parents (there are kids but they are quiet). People shop with a purpose (no aloof shoppers in their own world blocking aisles). Fast, efficient checkout lines (don't hesitate or you'll get dirty looks). Also, they stock mostly private labels (or generic if you will). So if you are a "brand loyalist", you might want to look elsewhere. TIP: Bring your own bags. Bring cash or debit (no credit cards). Don't expect to find "everything" you want, but they do cover almost everything. read more

This is my first Yelp review. Yay! I always consult Yelp when I need it and now I feel it's time for me to give back. I am an Aldi fan and have been shopping here for at least 5 years (not just this location specifically.) It is definitely a no frills store but I don't need or want frills. I compare it to a Sam's Club but on a smaller scale. It just has a warehouse feel. The prices are awesome for your basic grocery needs. It doesn't have everything like other mainstream grocery stores in the area but you can't beat Aldi's prices. I just supplement with another low cost grocer when I can't find what I need at Aldi. The customer service at the many Aldi stores I have frequented is pretty good. The cashiers for the most part are friendly but there have been a few exceptions. They also sell specialty items like German foods and they sell some household goods. For instance, I found a large cutting board there for a great price. I bought a few small appliances there (food chopper and waffle iron) for a good price. The appliances work well. I must mention that they sell these toffee cookies that are absolutely to die for. When I get the taste for toffee cookies, it's either Aldi or Panera Bread. Like others have mentioned a quarter is needed for the grocery cart and you have to bring you own bags. You can purchase bags there if you don't have any or you can use the empty boxes that they sometimes have on the shelves. You have to bag your own groceries and they only accept cash and debit cards. None of this I have found to be a problem for me. I just wish they had self checkout:) So some specifics for this location. It is one of the reasons for me deducting a star. The area where this Aldi is located is a bit sketchy, but not to the point where I feel uncomfortable. I wish they could keep it cleaner on the outside (this is just a pet peeve of mine as I am a bit of a clean freak.) I have seen people just drop cigarette buts and other litter on the ground on the outside. Uggh, I can't stand this! Also there are people that hang around the outside of the store (maybe homeless people, not sure) and I have seen them approach customers. Maybe a no loitering policy should be implemented. This location is also a little more crowded than other locations I have visited. I prefer the quieter locations but this one is close to where I live. One other (minor) downside of Aldi and another reason for the star deduction is some things that I like to purchase are not always there. For instance, I like their crock-pot bags because the price is great but I am not always able to find them. I am thinking it may be seasonal. Also they were selling pearl couscous for a great price but I don't see that anymore. So if you happen to see a rare item that you like, you might want to stock up because they may not always sell it. Well that's all folks. I stopped by at this grocery store on my way home from work to pick up a few items. Needless to say I was very surprised I had to insert a quarter into the shopping cart in order to use it. The grocery store chain will give it back to you however, I did not see any instructions posted outside of the store about how to retrieve a shopping cart. I had to wait for another customer to assist me while a store employee sitting on the window sill looked on near the entrance of the store. The produce was fresh, and the prices were great but overall this store does not carry brand name soft drinks, bread, deli meat, etc. I found it interesting the store charges seven cents for its plastic grocery bags. This was the first time I shopped at ALDI. I doubt I will return. read more

ALDI is definitely the grocery store you want to go to for unbeatable discounted prices on groceries. The cost of food is skyrocketing alongside Gas these days, so for some people, seeing a price cut on their grocery bill would be a welcomed sight. The majority of their products are in-store brands but dont let that steer you away, as we should all remember "same ingredients-same product"--brand loyalty is absurd, especially these days. Dairy, frozen foods, juices, cereals, boxed/canned foods, hygeine products, beer/wine, and everything in between can all be found here, my only gripe would be the meat and fruit section. The meat department at this location is pretty lackluster with a limited supply and a few poor choice cuts. Save your money on everything else, but maybe splurge a little more on meat elswhere. The fruit section is also hit or miss, depending on the day you go depends very much on what you will find. (price comparison- you will find Milk at about 2 and some change here, at other big name stores, the price of milk is nearing as much as 4 dollars) (Also: they "rent" out their shopping carts for 25cents, so dont forget that quarter. ALDI also charges for paper/plastic bags (roughly under 10cents each) To close, if you can relate to my review by all means go and check for yourself (go to their website to locate the nearest in your neighborhood); you will notice a savings when compared to your bill from other grocery stores. I've always thought Aldi was a little shady, but this grocery is actually quite awesome! Its brother is Trader Joe's (I recently found that out), and they have limited brand name, mostly generic/Aldi-produced food items as well as other specialty items. Prices are great - I usually get their spreadable cheese (the garlic flavored one) with the store's version of Ritz crackers; milk chocolate candies, fruit snacks, as well as mini donuts for my students; great baking needs (like their cake mixes and frostings); awesome tubs of ice cream for ice cream parties that won't break the bank; and, sometimes, they have chocolate covered potato chips as their 'special of the week' that is absolutely divine! Give Aldi a chance! I saw the ads on TV and read these reviews..so even though it was out o.f the way a bit, I decided to give it a try. What I. Found was a small neat grocery with really affordable prices. For instance, BACON at Harris Teeter today was $7.19 per lb. Aldi's price was $3.49. White bread at Harris Teeter was $1.00...Aldi $1.29. Cereal at Aldi..most expensive was $2.50. The meat selection was packaged..looked really good..not a lot of selection but what was there looked great. They have lower fat/calorie product line called Fit & Active which has everything from frozen meatballs to salad dressing and is very good. Some items are cheaper at the regular supermarket but as a whole this place has cheaper items. Note: This place doesn't have free bags so you'll have to bring your own or pay to use theirs (or use their display boxes for free), also you'll need to bring a quarter if you need to use a cart. I shop at Aldi to save money on our groceries and to buy unusual specialty items that I can't get just anywhere. I don't mind that the store is plain and basic because that is how the store is able to offer such low prices, and I mean LOW PRICES. My family and I have been shopping at Aldi for years, and we think that Aldi offers the lowest prices around beating out Food Lion, Wal-Mart, Costco - all the discounters. I know that seems hard to believe, but it sure seems that way. Aldi doesn't offer a huge selection, but what it does offer, is really cheap compared to all the other stores. Plus, Aldi offers interesting German items (e.g., their Deutsche Küche brand) and other international brands. Again, there are not a whole lot of the imported items, but they are sprinkled throughout the store - so it pays to get familiar with what the store offers. Around the holidays, I especially like to buy at Aldi their German stolen cake, their German pumpernickel/rye/sesame seed bread, and their mulled German Christmas wine. When Aldi has these items, I stock up. Aldi also has a great selection of Swiss/German chocolate candy. And, in Virginia the Aldi stores have an interesting selection of inexpensive wine that the Maryland stores do not have. The imports are the kinds of things that one might find at the World Market store. We really love the imports and find that they make great gifts. People always ask me: where did I buy them? I tell them Aldi's, and they say what??? Many people don't know about Aldi's. I guess they don't because it's just not everywhere. It is a modest no frills store that doesn't attract a lot of attention. But, it has GREAT DEALS. That keeps me coming back. When in Alexandria, I shop at Aldi. read more

I recently visited Aldi and was frustrated to find a number of pricing stickers missing as I went through the store. I picked up some cookies and brought them home, and after opening and tasting and immediately noticing that they were rancid, turned the package over and the "use by" date was 5 months previous! I went online to find a number to call but only found an email form, so I attempted to use that. When I tried to attach a photo from my iPad, the photo exceeded the email form parameters and then wouldn't let me delete the attempted attachment, so I had to start over and fill out the whole form again. I then received what was clearly a form letter, but it did have a phone number for customer service (which BTW had hours listed but no time zone-what major corporation skips that?) so I called and finally was able to address this issue. The customer service rep also advised that the individual stores do not have a phone number for customers, which I had tried to find. You have to contact the corporate office to address issues, or maybe return to the store. This company clearly does not know how to play in the bigger leagues. read more

I have been to this location enough times that I know I won't return. The displays are sometimes teetering on falling over/off the shelves. The floors are dirty with visible spills and smears of who knows what. The produce that should look crisp is wilted to the point of turning brown. Stay away from any of the greens - they appear to have sat in the heat. Even a roadside vegetable stand has fresher looking produce!! The selection is limited compared to other Aldi stores, some of the employees need training re: customer service. If I spend $50 at your store, the least you can say is thank you after ringing up my order and I hand over my money. I won't return to this location due to my disappointing experiences. read more

OK, for those who know anything about Aldi -- I wil do a short recap and score for Aldi in general...then the store. In General - 5 stars Aldi RULES! Get all the staple products you get at Giant, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Safeway etc -- and save probably half the money. No joke -- it is legit. They are owned by the same German family who owns Trader Joes, and the store carries 90% of the products under their private label -- (As Trader Joe does too). This is partly how they save money, b/c not paying for Kraft, Green Giant, etc's advertising. Prices are unbeatable on Fruit, Vegetables, milk, cheese, yogurt, juices, cereal, soup, bread, pasta, laundry detergent, soap, papertowls, and on and on -- same quality and save a TON!! They have beer, wine, fresh fruits / veggies, hummus, fresh cut meats, pasta, etc. So while a small footprint and limited items, the 1,000 or so items they carry do about 80% of what I need for a week. Need to Know --- * Only take debit cards or cash. No visa, so much know that. * Need a quarter for the cart --- don't worry you get it back. The reason is so they don't lose carts, but more importantly so they don't have to pay people to corral carts and bring them in like at Target or Giant, etc. Those hours they pay multiple people each day every hour at those stores go where ..??... to the product prices. SO this is part of how prices remain lower. * Bring own bags -- or buy them for a dime. See above on how prices remain low. * Aldi backs up what they say, with their money. If you don't like a product they will refund you not only your money -- but give you your money and another item for FREE! Can't beat that. This store -- 4 stars All the above applies to this store. I like the staff here and generally find them very friendly and helpful. The store itself is a bit older and in a somewhat less than high end strip mall, to be politically correct. But other than a few sketch balls hanging out, in the plaza here and there, I havent had any issues at all as a white, higher income white collar guy. who goes in every week to get some stuff as I have at this store for 3 years. But - I know Aldi has built some newer stores which have slightly better aesthetics in them, including one in DC. And the one in Woodbridhe on Smoketown is not bad either. But since I live a mile from here and just want to get quality food for less money, this one works out just fine for me. If not this store, give Aldi a shot. I really love ALDI. Between ALDI and Costco, I am set. The European chain is owned by the same parent company as Traders Joes so expect something similar. They carry their own brands and have some name brands at the fraction of the cost. They also carry great seasonal European items like speciality cheeses and beers. The quality is comparable to items one would find at Safeway or Giant. For the most part, I can find everything I need. I actually like the shopping cart idea as it keeps the parking lot clear. Bring your own bag is not a big deal as it forces one to recycle. A number of states and counties (i.e. Montgomery) are charging for plastic bags and I imagine Fairfax will too at some point in the future. If you have not been to ALDI, I recommend giving it a try. read more

I like budget shopping, and I like food, so Aldi is a win-win for me, plus it's on a pretty convenient stretch of road for me to get on. I typically go grocery shopping about every two weeks, and every time I go I don't fail to find the essentials, and there's always something cute or new that I can get. Sometimes the items they have are seasonal and only in stock for so long, so that's a bit sad for me, but I think I can manage without pork rinds for a few weeks, and they always have something new to grab. Like their amazing generic Frito's, or their bitchin' yogurts or some mouth watering ice cream or... I think you all get the point. Anyway, the price fluctuate sometimes, but it's always a guarantee to be cheaper than any other grocery stores, like Shoppers of Safeway. You've got to bring your own bags, which I don't really mind, encourages a soul to recycle anyway and not hoard plastic bags. The cashiers are nice most of the time. I had an instance of one salty girl give me flak for already bagging some liters of soda in a bag (I did have some out so she could scan those) but IDGAF. Most of the time, it's a pretty positive experience with them. Like 90%. The one thing that grafts me alot is the sometimes occurrence of people accosting you as you put your cart away, and pleading for your quarter. Even though across the street there is a church giving free meals plus groceries on a regular basis...I feel like there should be some "No Loitering" signs plastered all over, and for them to partner with the ever present police force t patrol that area. A stern look of disapproval and a set of harsh eyes usually drives them away though. I go really early in the morning (they open at 9) to ultimately avoid these people, and it works! Ultimately, if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg to stay alive, and you don't mind generic food items (with sometimes hilarious names) then Aldi is the place for you~! read more

Scary is what comes to mind. The parking and center is run down. That is a nice way to say it. The store actually mirrors the center. No Frills, no free shopping carts (pay to get one) and no bags. Opposite feeling than that of Whole Foods. Employees are very rude and talking on the phone during checkout. The store did not even have a phone to call about hours nor publish a public number. Unfortunately, I frequent the one near my job in Alexandria and it is very "interesting". There are people hanging out in front of the store trying to get your quarter from your cart so that they can save up enough money to purchase a soda at the 7-11 located across the street (my coworker can attest to this). Today i went and left my bag in the cart because I was in a hurry to get away from this guy before he could ask for my quarter and I left my bag in the cart. By the time I realized it, I went back and it was missing. But guess who had a large amount of items hanging from his pants??? the guy!!! It looked as if he took my bag and hid it in his pants.
