After moving into our new house, the prospect of landscaping a 1+ acre lot was daunting to say the least. However, Alderwood made it a painless and actually an enjoyable process from start to finish. The entire team consisted of true professionals who made me realize that there are still plenty of hard working people out there that take great pride in their work. Let me highlight what made this process so enjoyable: * Great design work by Kris Krohn and project management by Dann Van Hook; they did a great job listening to us and coming up with a solid plan. When I had questions, they were quick to respond and find answers. * Hard workers; team of three showed up right after July 4th and were committed to us for about the next 6 weeks. We were their sole job; they weren't jumping back and forth between us and other projects which was tremendous. The team consistently rolled in around 7 am and worked full days to get the job done in a very timely manner. * Genuinely good people working on the job - we had the same team for basically the whole job. Great guys, all friendly and very helpful. Seth Kernodle led the team on the job site and really kept things moving along in a professional manner. One time I was moving furniture off the patio for another contractor and when I came back around the corner, all three individuals had stopped what they were doing and were instead helping me move the remaining furniture. It's hard to find that caliber of a team these days. * Great design was made better by Seth's implementation of new ideas on the fly. He continually looked for ways to make improvements; a little extra rock or dirt became something new and exciting in the plan as it came to life. Alderwood's dynamic approach to implementing the design in real time was tremendous. * Attention to detail/dedication to their craft; we have some large rock retaining walls and we are always getting compliments on them. These are not your basic stacked stone/quick walls. These were carefully crafted with meticulous attention to detail. This attention to detail was repeated all throughout the project. We had posted a previous negative review after a misunderstanding from a telephone consultation. However, we have since had an opportunity to meet with Tim Glass, a landscape architect with Alderwood Landscaping. He went out of his way to contact us and make things right. Mr. Glass was accommodating with scheduling and he did an excellent job of explaining some of the challenges and constraints with working with many of the homes in the Seattle area. We sincerely appreciate the effort Mr. Glass put into contacting us, and as a result our confidence has been renewed. We did a complete backyard renovation. We worked with Tim Glass, landscape architect to come up with a plan that would meet our expectations and budget. We ended up spending more because we decided to install pavers in the front entry as well after seeing the beautiful work they did on our backyard. The crew was wonderful, Craig the project manager was there everyday and was easy to communicate with. I've never seen anyone work harder than these guys did EVERY day!! Our new backyard included adding a fire pit, natural stone stairway down to our lawn, a complete pool overhaul, new decking, hot tub installation, an extended large patio with new sprinkler system and lighting. Thank you Dustin, Adam, Craig and the others who not only work hard but are so proud of the work they do, not to mention that they are artists in their field!! Lastly, we cannot say enough about Tim Glass and his vision, from the design process to plant selection, he exceeded our expectations. We are spending so much more time in our backyard. We hired Alderwood Landscape Architecture and Construction to completely revamp the majority of our back yard space to include water features, fire pit, lighting, landscaping, hard surface replacement and an outdoor living space. We met with Tim who did an outstanding job listening to us, translating our landscaping and building needs into amazing plans and connecting us with the right contractors to handle all elements of the building construction. Tim's overall design was fantastic and his plant selection was inventive and colorful!!! He has a true eye for developing a warm, year round color palate for planting areas. Additionally, he listened well to what I was looking for and was willing to change his plans as necessary to incorporate my personal likes and dislikes. We plan to do additional work in the front at a later date! Dann was our overall project manager. We never had any problems with scheduling, project management, or accurate budgeting and billing information. Given how many projects he oversees were very impressed with his willingness to help us out at every turn when we had questions about the project, timelines, materials, product specifications, and alternate materials as necessary. He provided me with multiple sub-contractors to interview and select for other aspects of the project and was helpful every step of the way. The landscaping, water feature, hard surface, and lighting team was led by Nick Lane who had a great team of very helpful, conscientious team members, Jose, Drew, and others. Every day they were on time, worked hard, and were always willing to answer my myriad of questions regarding the processes they were using to dismantle the old hardscapes, dig fountains, lay stones, water feature maintenance, etc.. It was a labor intensive process and we were so happy with every aspect of the implementation. For the building construction we hired Nick Alexander and his team to do the outdoor living space that had multiple elements to the project and required several sub-contractors. Nick and his team, Don and Zach, were amazing. From the beginning Nick listened to what we wanted and quickly converted our thoughts into an amazing CAD drawing. Nick offered great input into the design process, listened to our changes and seamlessly implemented them into the final design. Having built a lot of projects from the ground up over the years, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the process was from planning through implementation. The schedule was well managed, the construction site was always clean and safe at the end of the work day, and the materials were always top notch. There were no corners cut anywhere. Professionalism was the constant mode for communication and project management. Shortly after the entire project was finished we had over 100 people over and the comments about the space, landscaping, water features, etc., were all positive and people really enjoyed the space, the quality, and the design. We would highly recommend this company and their team and would hire them for additional work as needed! read more
