As far as escape rooms go I think this place is LEGIT! They offer a couple different rooms.. some with live actors! We did the zombie experience which was fun because a live actor will chase you around and you can get out into quarantine. Would go again! read more

It has been a while since I have done a review I'm sorry for that but this one absolutely had to be done. If you have never done an escape room or you have never done Alcatraz escape games in Lyndon or draper, you must try it immediately. My sister and I tried it out a couple of weekends ago and did their wizard style room which was super fun. Today however we decided to get a group together and do one of their scary ones which was a lot more detail to and a little bit more involved in trying to escape. The thing that I love about these guys is they put a lot of detail into the design of their rooms with magnetic switches and whatnot along with the details of the clues and trying to figure things out. Awesome group of people that run this place and the actress that played Chloe even scared the shit out of me lol. This is definitely a must especially with a group of friends but if it's just a couple of you that's fine too because it's a way to meet other people while you run for your life lol. read more

We went here on a group date. We had tried another escape room place in SLC and were severely disappointed with it. We had higher hopes for this one. We got stuck behind a horrible car accident on the waY there and were scared we would miss doing it with our group! We called ahead that explained to them, they were understanding and gave us all the time they could without messing up their night. Luckily we made it just a few mins late and everything worked out!! The escape room we did was the Harry Potter themed one. It was really fun!! I like that they didn't give too much help (other place did this) so we could figure it out. I don't know how we would have done it without the size group we did it was detailed and fun! We felt the price was steep considering we were in there for less than 40 mins but aside from that we loved it! They did give us lockers to keep our things safe which I really appreciated! Every woman knows carrying a purse around for something like that is noooo fun! This was amazing! They do give discounts to people who finish which is super nice! read more

We had so much fun at Alcatraz! Admittedly, it is expensive. Too expensive? Maybe a little, but it seems most entertainment these days is. It's fun that they have different rooms to go through and totally different options for those of us who don't feel like being chased by zombies or sent to the electric chair. I have never been in an escape room, so I had no idea what to expect. There were only three of us, but we had a really good time! The puzzles were hard but not impossible; we just ran out of time trying to get it figured out. The zombie guy was really scary, but he didn't really touch you, so that was cool. As a side note, I wasn't physically able to crawl on my knees to the other rooms, so they came in and took me to the other room, which was nice, and I really appreciated that. I felt like I was still in the game and able to enjoy it with my party, so a big "thank you" to Josh and Andrew for that. We had a really great time, and I highly recommend Alcatraz! read more

Southern California based escape room players with significant escape room experience. We were visiting the Pleasant Grove area and wanted to run an escape room in some of the free time that we had. Alcatraz was one of the best reviewed rooms we found that was close to our hotel, so we booked their Wizard Hysteria room. The rooms are not private, so any booking that does not take up all available slots can be paired with other groups (we were lucky enough to not be joined by another group for our booking). That booking 10 player spots is required to make the room private makes it expensive ($280 to $300) option, especially since there is not enough room or puzzles to accommodate or justify 10 players. This room felt like it was designed more for 4 to 6 players, but 6 would make for a very cramped experience. The location appeared to share space within the trampoline park building, but has its own entrance doors. We were greeted when we entered and were taken through the room information and video prior to entering the room. Once inside the room, we were given a few final instructions before beginning the escape. Clues and information given while inside the room is done via a walkie-talkie, and it can be difficult to understand at times. Also, during the final instructions, we were provided with information that revealed how big of a solve the room was, which took some of the mystery and fun out of running the room, as we knew what we were working towards. This room is linear, and does not contain any outlandish leaps in logic. That said, the room is not particularly difficult for experienced players, and with a room record of 22:15 elapsed, should not poise much of a challenge to beginners. As a pair, we completed the room in 25:10 with 0 hints, but the record would have very much been within reach if we ran it with our normal team of 4 players. The room is severely lacking in puzzles, and the ones that are included will not provide much of a challenge to experienced players. One major negative aspect of the rooms is that they are not enclosed rooms, but are instead open ceilinged, allowing players to hear other rooms that are also being played. This occurred during our visit, as while we were in the middle of our solve, we could hear the very loud and echoing sounds and screams coming from the horror themed room (Chloe?). It was very distracting and does break the immersion. It could also be a problem for those who chose a room wanting to avoid a horror experience, as it becomes unavoidable with this set up of the rooms. Also, the manner that the final puzzle is given to players was very disappointing, and there has to be a better way to present it that makes sense within the room. Overall, this room would be good for new players, but will leave experienced players wanting more, and perhaps a little disappointed given the higher price point and lack of challenging puzzles. read more

It was the first time for the three of us, we were able to solve the clues and escape the room with 3 minutes to spare. It was challenging but not impossible! I came to SLC for work, and have done all of the rooms at Alcatraz Lindon -- the only negative was the Zombie Panic -- It was impossible to do the final puzzle/challenge because one of the 'claws' that was necessary was broken. I was told, 'Yeah, that broke today.' Okay, why waste my time then? We 'failed' to get out of the room after being on the final puzzle for 10 minutes, but it was IMPOSSIBLE to get out with a broken claw. No wonder the escape percentage is so low. Wizard Hysteria was fun for sure. I joined a family of 7, 1 other adult and 6 kids. Because I've done 115+ rooms, I was more of a watcher and kind of pointed them in the right direction, but let the kids do al the puzzles. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad they all escaped and hope they now have the 'itch' to do more! The Row was fantastic. Really cool puzzles, straight forward but not 'simple'. Joined another group of 7 and we escaped with about 10 minutes left. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend it to anyone! Chloe is legit. If you enjoy being scared out of your wits, give it a shot. I did this with 4 people who are terrified and don't like being scared. I have to coerce them into the room by telling them we were doing Wizard Hysteria but jumped into Chloe room upon arrival. This made everything even more enjoyable! Outside of the Zombie room experience, I would HIGHLY recommend Alcatraz to anyone! read more

Please save yourself the money. My friends and I LOVE escape rooms and so we were willing to spend a little extra to try out Alcatraz. Not sure if this location is just too new or if the employees are terrible or both but we had a terrible experience. Not only is the complexity of the room dull and un interactive, but the employees set up the room wrong!! You have one job! They had to scare us out of the room half way through to fix their error, and didn't offer any sort of compensation at the end. The whole experience was just bad and a total waste of money. read more

Great fun! We hosted our 10-year-old's birthday party here with a few friends and they had a fantastic time making their way through the Wizard Hysteria room. Emma scared the crap out of us with her oscar award winning performance as "Chloe." The room was challenging and we really had to apply our wits in order to make it through. 10/10 would recommend. This has been the best escape room I've been to in Utah Valley. Anyone who can face a little fear should definitely try this room! read more

The decorations, the environment, the themes...all amazing! I do not handle scary things very well, so I'm too scared to try the rooms they have that have actors in them as you play, but I can definitely vouch for the "Wizarding Hysteria" room. My cousins and I went as a Christmas gift from my mom. We did the Zombie Fallout room and had a great time! The puzzles were solvable, except for the word problem in the last room. It did not make sense. We asked the girl that worked there after how the answer was possible and she couldn't give us an answer. I would recommend they rewrite it. We did talk to the manager about a different issue and he was super responsive. Overall it was a great experience and we will be coming back! read more

Not worth the money. My friends and I went to the Chloe escape room and when we entered the kitchen, the coffee pot was dangling by wires, which we thought was to be a clue or something. They ended up cutting our time short because "we broke their coffee pot" although it was broken before. The staff didn't compensate at all and the $180 for 6 of us was a waste of 40 minutes. The staff could have at least considered our perspective. The room was pretty good, but not as expected for the price. There was nothing really magical and we felt like nothing corresponded to the tasks. read more

The place was great... the lady at the front desk kicked my friends and I out. It was my friends birthday party and we had only been in the room for about 15 minutes. There was a string that broke that was used for communication so we couldn't communicate with the other room so we walked out and went in there room, she then came in and kicked us out for doing that. read more

It was a great experience over all however they cram way too many people in one room. We did the Horcrux room and our time slot had 10 people in it. There should have been half that many for anything to get done successsfully. Also their hints come from sliding a white board under the door. They need to update their technology and get a computer monitor in there to send hints. Takes away the magic of it all and difficult to read sloppy handwriting. Overall it was a good experience and it was very fun. Would have appreciated a little more explanation at the beginning. That there were 3 rooms, and more about what we were looking for. They did a great job with the atmosphere and making it very true to Harry Potter which I enjoyed thoroughly. Would recommend if doing it with a small group. read more

We did the Chloe room for the second time (the first time being at the Draper location) and it was so much fun! Daniel was our host and Ashlynn was our Chloe. She did amazing and so did he! The only reason I gave 4 stars is because I felt like the Draper location was more scary and it also had a little more explanation. It was hard to know what was important and what was a prop in this location. Also love how much space you have, other rooms I have done are so crammed it's hard to do any of the puzzles. But aside from that it was such a good time! Still didn't escape but I'm sure we will end up trying again! read more

My friends and I absolutely love escape rooms. They aren't the cheapest activity out there but we try to do them as much as we can. This was our first time trying Alcatraz (we did the zombie room) and it was a disaster. Not only because the rooms are far less decorated/put together as others that we have done but there were many mistakes within the room. There is an intercom system that was necessary to communicate and get out that didn't really work. One of the locked drawers was broken so we never had to crack the code. One of our trap doors randomly opened so we moved on to the next room before we were supposed to so an employee had to come in and send us back to keep figuring out how to open the door that was already open. At one point we opened a drawer that had clues inside but staff realized that they forgot to place all of the clues so they opened a random door and then sent a "zombie" in to scare us all out and then just left the missing clues on a table. All of these things slowed us down which was lame but more than anything just ruined the experience.. read more

Best escape room ever. If you like Harry Potter, you definitely need to check this place out, one of the escape rooms is Harry Potter themed, with music and all. The worst!! Do not go here. We've done at least 8 escape rooms at various other places that were great, but this was horrible! The staff were rude and the worst part was that they put 2 random young adults in with my group of seven 12 and 13 year old little girls and I didn't know they would be in there with them! These adults were described by my group of girls as mean, bossy, scary, rude and they were swearing. I was incredibly upset to learn these random people had spent an hour in a small enclosed place with my girls and the company let this happen. It is 100% inappropriate and a HUGE liability on their part. When I talked to the people at the desk afterward they were completely rude and defensive, offered no compensation or solutions, and didn't care that my girls did not have a good experience, it ruined my daughter's birthday experience with her friends, and that they had felt threatened and uncomfortable. Unacceptable and horrible! I'm shocked a company puts random people in with other groups in such a small and personal kind of environment and experience, or especially would put adults in with minors. Such a risk! Shows nothing but bad judgment and lack of concern on their part. read more

As fans of Harry Potter, we were excited to try Horcrux Hysteria. The set was decent, but the puzzles were pretty linear and the tie-in to the Harry Potter storyline was tenuous. Many of the elements in the room were there just as distractions, and we spent a frustratingly long amount of time trying to decode a puzzle only to learn afterwards that it isn't yet operational and is supposedly part of a future room improvement (not sure why they don't make this clear up front). There was also a malfunction that caused the final door to open early. We felt like the puzzles were difficult to read due to the lighting, which seemed like a gimmicky way to make them more challenging. We have done several other escape room games that offer puzzles with more complexity that can be solved in parallel which is great for large groups. We are also used to being able to go through a debrief at the end of the room so that everyone gets a chance to see what the puzzles were, but for some inexplicable reason the staff was a bit oblique when we asked questions about the puzzles, indicating they couldn't reveal the secrets of the room (not sure why--who would do a room a second time?). We haven't tried other Alcatraz Escape Games but after our disappointment with Horcrux Hysteria we will be looking elsewhere. read more
