I stopped by this legendary store for Western gear when I was in town for a convention. Alcala's has a wide selection of boots and clothes. They carry high end boot lines like Lucchese and Black Jack. I purchased a pair of pants and a snap shirt, both of which needed alterations. They have an onsite tailor for complementary alterations! I was able to get fitted and they mailed my clothes to me a week later. I highly recommend checking out this place if you're into Western gear. The absolute worst. I bought a key chain that broke and took it back two months later after it cased me to lose my keys. I had the wrong receipt and the woman had such attitude when I told her I was trying to return it and was so unfriendly as if I were trying to steal the entire store. She told me the keychain was $4.95.and she could not give me the money back. I was going to look at a belt and was hoping that they would just apply it to the belt but she and her co-employee were so nasty about it that I wouldn't want anything else from this store. Ever. Also told them of a very tragic thing that happened to a friend that I had bought another of their keychains for and they told me "We all have problems, Lady". Came in with my oldest son to buy some clothing for Dude Ranch. The store has tons of choices! The woman who helped me in the Ladies Department was wonderful! She helped me find boots, jeans, shirts and dresses and a cowboy hat. She was honest and thoughtful. My son had a different lady in Men's department. We both felt that she was pushy and made me very uncomfortable. I walked over to see a shirt that my son was trying on in his dressing room and she said to me "OH that dress you must buy it! It was hard to find my ideal shape and color online but unlike Amazon or other stores, they offer to shape your brim however you like so you're guaranteed to find what you've been looking for. They also record the hat's serial number and stamp the inside with their logo so you can return to get it reshaped or cleaned for $8. Went here for a birthday gift, talked to a store employee asking if they honor the same prices they have online. I was told yes, so i proceeded to shop and pick up everything i needed. When i get to the cash register to pay 2 pairs of boots, and 2 belts later, i am told that they do not honor their online prices and it was only online. After a slight disagreement with the cashier, I succumbed to their policies and purchased everything online. This is where i start to become annoyed. I asked if I could walk out with my order and they said no because they need to process it. After a brief conversation with Robert Alcalá, the store manager, I am still told no. So then i ask him to cancel the order. I call back 5 minutes later to see when my order would be canceled because if it was tomorrow, i would have just told him that's pointless and i'll just pick up my items at that point. Instead Robert tells me that they actually ran upstairs to their system to cancel the order as fast as they could. This leaves me befuddled because why on Gods green earth would they not run up their to process my $400 order but they run upstairs to cancel it. I will never come here again after my family has been shopping here for years. would give 0 stars if I could for the way this situation was handled. It is the 21st century, please keep up. read more

They do a good job. I like the service they give to boots they have sold in the repair and cleaning process. My daughter sent me a cowboy hat as a gift from California to Chicago. The hat was not shaped. I called Alcalas and spoke to manager Mike and he invited me over anytime to meet Jesus the professional hat specialist. I was pleasantly surprised they have a hat department and Jesus is nothing less than an artist! This guy can make a perfectly shaped cowboy hat out of a soup can! Holy cow it was a great experience! SADDLE UP If John Wayne was still alive he would ride up, tie his horse up to the LAZ pay station and then shop here for his western wear. This store is so much fun to just walk around. With everyone going country in America, this store is perfect for the wannabe city slicker. Recently our little one went to the Windy City Smokeout with us and she commented that she needed a cowgirl hat to go with her cowboy boots. I knew this was the perfect place to fulfill that request. We actually walked through in the summer and let her find the hat she wanted. As good parents we then used it as an incentive to get good grades. Bribery is a good educational motivator. Fast forward to the present and it was time to get that hat. The only problem is that the hat was now gone. Oh no what are we going to do. The only good news is that there are still a ton of hats to choose from. With a little parental redirecting we were able to advert a crisis. The staff cleaned up the new hat and we bought it. They even taught her how to properly store her new cowgirl hat. As we were walking out of the store and back to our covered wagon, she noticed that the hat she wanted was in the front window. So of course we had to go back in and exchange our recent purchase for the hat she originally wanted. The staff was very helpful and made sure that this process was extremely painless. On a side note we were able to talk the little one into being a cowgirl for Halloween. This saved us some money from having to buy another Disney Princess dress that leaves glitter everywhere. The cowboy costume is always a good standby during this holiday season. That's a hint if your still undecided for Halloween. One of my observations was the price of cowboy boots. This place has some really expensive cowboy boots here. John Wayne might be the only guy who could afford these things. When I started seeing some boots on sale for a $1199 I thought that was crazy and then I saw a pair for $2699. I was a little speechless and then wondered if the return policy here is the same as Nordstrom. I am going to go on a limb and say nope. These boots were made for walking and once they leave the store they are not coming back ever again. Now hopefully I didn't scare you away from this place because they do have some great affordable prices. This place has everything for the cowboy or cowgirl in your family including hats, boots, jeans, horse whips, scarfs, vests, polyester pants and jackets. You'll be riding the open range in style. We brought my boots in that are 15 years old to get stretched and cleaned. From the first moment we walked in someone was saying hello and taking care of us. The selection is pretty huge and being that we purchased my boots there (they stamp the inside with their name so you don't have to find a receipt) they were able to give us a great price on cleaning/stretching and they did an excellent job! After purchasing many items over the course of many years, I have never felt so disappointed with guaporú if very expensive goods and the quality of service and decided I have finally given up on this store and their less than "Professional" customer service (From a Robert). This all from from a store which is supposedly been in business 50 years. So, I Bought a $1150 silver tread belt (yes silver as In the metal) in 8/2022 and I wore it one time at a Rodeo in Baja. Well, the belt buckle kept fallen off all day also tried to put it back on in the rest room making it a very inconvenient experience all day long. In addition, a the end of the evening I noticed the color of the silver belt had changed into a discolored darker brownish color. It was very embarrassing to have to continue to try to put the Buckle all day long and more embarrassing that the belt color was changing , thinking it was a 100% silver thread belt. After Labor Day, when I returned from Baja, I proceeded to go to the store to show them the defective silver belt. They "acted" as Surprised as I genuinely was with the terrible quality of this very expensive belt. And they all owners and leather taylor consulted with each other to get inline as to what to with me and/or the belt. Luckily, I had the receipt with me, because they are sticklers with their receipts, and as I am anal about keeping them in case there is an issue with my purchased goods. I was patient with them to hear what options they had to offer to make the whole experience better. But I didn't have any more Patience and I finally told them What I wanted from Them, I decided to tell them what a terrible Experience I had had at the Rodeo with this belt buckle that kept falling off. It was a very expensive belt but evidently it was defective and discolored silver threaded leather belt. I should have gotten my refund at that point, but given that I had confidence other products that it's many embroidered shorts worth hundreds of dollars. I had also bought a silver and gold threaded belt ($1,300) at Alcala's before several years ago and it is still in great shape , the buckle has not fallen off and the belt keeps It's shiny color and good quality. As a Matter of fact, I Wear it all the time. So I proceeded with my request for an exchange. I tried the new belt and it was two inches longer than my size. I still Proceeded with the exchange and the clerk or owner , Roberto, exchanged the belt provided Me with a new Receipt for the exchange and created an order for the the leather tailor to shorten the length by two inches. I said I would give them until end of September for the work because I would taking the be taking the new belt to San Bernardino /LA Rodeo event in October. I returned first week in October for the new shortened silver belt which also cost same Price ($1,150) and the work had not been done. The belts was never touched and the change to the length was never worked on. I was livid but feeling controlled about such a lack of communication from Alcala's because I had returned from Chicago's north side about 15 miles away for the finished product and they had not even given me a call to inform me that the work had not been completed. The Cashier Clerk/owner (Robert) acted surprised and was not sure why the work had not been completed. It was definitely UNACCEPTABLE that the work was not completed even after I gave them Additional days and until fist week in October. He mentioned something about the leather tailor having been busy and possibly not getting around to completing the work. Well, I though that by having the new belt length changed completed in time with quality that they would make it RIGHT and that would make me feel satisfied and regain some of the lost trust that I had before with Alcala's products. Well, unfortunately "Two Wrongs" made the whole experience worse. The Cashier Clerk said he would investigate and would have someone make the changes. I proceeded on 10/05 to request a full Refund Credited back to my CC account obtain proof of the CC credit and hope to not ever to return to Alcala's again. read more

I grew up out west in Idaho and Oregon and one of my uncles was famous in horse training and horse jumping circles, and just about the last thing I ever expected to find just two miles from the Loop was a genuine cowboy store. Even reading about it in the paper and on theri website didn't do it justice. I has authentic hats and boots and chaps, but it also has real working cowboy supplies, tools you need to shoe a horse, tools for maintaining a working saddle - you name it, they probably have it and ift hey don't have it in the showroom they'll get it for you quickly. I have never had such a hard time trying to buy something in my life. I ordered a pair of boots to be delivered to my place of business, I paid extra to have them expedited for three day ship. My boots were set to arrive Wed June 24th. When they didn't arrive I called the store and spoke to the women who processes the shipping. I was told UPS attempted to deliver the boots to the address I provided, but that no one knew who I was. I followed up with the store Friday morning and spoke with the women who was handling my delivery. She said that she had the boots rerouted back to the store. I asked her if she could call UPS and have the boots rerouted back to my place of business. She said "NO". I asked her to give me one good reason why she would not accommodate me. I got nothing. I have now spoke with UPS and I asked them about a package. They said if the package had the correct address and suite # no matter what name it had on the package it would have been delivered. Last week July 1st I received a voice message from the manager saying he is sorry for the inconvenience and that the boots have been returned to stock. He went on to say that he has issued me a refund. I called July 2nd to follow up with the manager because in my mind I still wanted to purchase the boots. I left him a message because he was out of the office. I have been waiting to be refunded and it still has not shown up in my account. I figured maybe due to the 4th of July weekend their was a delay in the refund. Here we are today, no refund, no boots, no call back !!!! Once again I called the manager to ask about my refund. I never got around to asking because he actually hung up on me. I said to him I still wanted the boots after all of the headache. His reply "you will have to come to the store and pick them up". Seriously I've never heard such a thing !!!! I'm in California... After the manager rudely hung up on me I called him back. At this point I just wanted him to know that I have not been issued a refund. He wouldn't take my call. I left a message with a gal who answered the phone to have the owner call me. If you want to get in touch with your inner cowboy, there's really only one place to go - Alcalas. Its my favorite place to shop for real cowboy boots for myself and my clients. So understandably, what started as a trip to find a pair for a client who actually was a cowboy, turned into a shopping event for myself. So that backfired but I got a pair kick ass pairs of boots! The largest selection in the Midwest, there's lots to pick from. From basic Laredo to "WTF" Lucchese, you'll find every type of cowboy boot imaginable starting around one hundred and going into the thousands. Alcalas is like a museum with cool artifacts, western attire, giddy up stuff and of course rhinestones. Their selection boosts over 10,000 pairs of boots and their customer service is unbelievable. They will condition your boots for free, for life. Best Advice: Bring a couple of pairs of socks, light and medium weight, park across the street in their free parking lot, and eat before you go. With all those boots, it can be a little overwhelming for the novice and it's impossible to run in and out so plan on making it a day trip. hey I went back to Alcala's.I picked up a pair of jeans and a shirt,go figure?.The shirt is a xxl for the fit on the arms and the shoulders-the waist could fit alot more of me than I have.They altered the shirt in the time it took to drink a cold Victoria two doors down-for no charge.Where else can you buy a hip and not kill you priced shirt AND have it altered,in the same visit.I think that it is ironic that the currentt generation is labeled as it is "the entitled" generation and that they do not have any vaguery about customer service.This is an anomoly retailer that have relevant goods and gets the whole picture.I was treated as though I was buying a Rolex and I was spending at the level of a Timex,,,That speaks volumes read more
