Toby's staff is very professional, great with children, cheerful and inspiring. They offer a first free class on Saturdays at 11AM. They started him with a pool noodle to understand the basic stance and moves. Toby has a kind way of requiring respectful behavior from the students. He moved on to using full Olympic weapon and protective gear by the 3rd lesson. He loved having chances to "stab his teacher" on the last day. It looked so fun but also extremely educational!

Neither he nor any…read moreof his friends had ever fenced and Toby, the owner, spent over two hours with them teaching them the basics of fencing. The end of the lesson the kids got to fence one another in full garb. Everyone had a blast. Duke City fencing set up tables for our food, supplied the silverware, plates and cups and cleaned up. A very nice facility and a lot of fun. My husband also participated and it was quite the workout he said. My son now wants to take fencing lessons. Highly recommend!

You play 3, 4 or 5 on a team and then it's standard soccer on a smaller field. Run around, knock people over and kick the ball into the goals. They're punctual, friendly, informative, incredibly fun and yeah, you will need to sign a waver because this game is not for the faint of heart and claustrophobes should probably sit it out. So what's it about? The pictures provide decent context, but as a participant, you'll begin by squeezing your torso into a giant plastic orb which straps you in by the shoulders, and you'll grip some handles. The view is exactly what you'd imagine, sort of mottled and trippy (you're staring through a couple layers of lining). After teams have been divvied the 10 minute game is on, and believe me, that's all you'll need for a workout that blends something reminiscent of Jackie Chan's Drunken Master with adolescent futbol, harmless Gladiator glee and an accidental goal or two. Prepare to breathe deeply and take a breather, and if you're a hot-blooded midwestern transplant like me, that cocoon will get sweat-soaked. It's cool, though. The vessels are cleaned between matches. A fantastic team-building exercise, this is perfect for corporate events, birthday parties, ex-lover angst expulsion or silly Yelp gatherings, you can't go wrong with this non-blood sport. And when the game is done, you're not done, yet. There's a "Last Man Standing" closer, wherein everybody slams everybody faux mosh pit style. Sounds like a party? It is. Hardcore. But bouncy.

There are 4 full sized regulation sand volleyball courts there. The best part is that the sand is always raked, sprayed and cleaned before our games start to there is no risk or worry about bare foot injury. The restrooms are clean and the owners are very kind! I've been playing at Charlie's Sandbox for a little over a year now, and have to say that I've met some pretty awesome people here. There are 6 sand courts indoor and 3 courts outside. League play is once a week during weekdays (co-ed 4s and 6s, beginners to advanced levels). For a 6s team, cost per person is about $112, which is kind of steep, but it's for 3 months worth of league play. Open tournaments are on Saturdays and Sundays (King of the Beach, Queen of the Beach, co-ed 4s and 6s). Just check the website to see what tourneys are coming up as well as start times (Charlie usually has a tourney every weekend). Charlie's Sandbox just opened their Sand Bar, which can make things more interesting. ;o) they also serve hot dogs, etc. If you're interested in sand volleyball, definitely check it out.

This is a small park with great cheap seats, good eats and a lot of family fun. They do all the typical ballpark fun activities, kiss cams, games for kids and they even have a carousel for the kiddos! Of course, food and drink is a bit steep, but they do try and mitigate that with deals before the 5th inning! I tried the bananas foster last week and it was amazing! I would suggest sharing- it was huge! They have rotating food specials that are quite the delight. I will mention that they host United Soccer here as well, but I haven't been in attendance! I'm seriously not really into wrestling but my kids are and they have learned a lot from coach Nathaniel. This club is located in a really cool warehouse just off the freeway and 6th street, not to far from downtown. It's very urban, leaving this a unique spot for a wrestling club. We don't get too much of that in Albuquerque. There is a well rounded group of kids of all ages so everyone has great partners. I'm all for kids being involved in what ever it is they choose, as long as they're being active, creative etc.... If it's wrestling you're looking for, look no more! 505 Wrestling Club is the spot!
