I was with them for over 5 years but recently the office looks dirty and old. Things aren't being cleaned and replaced. I pay too much to go to a dump. Last time I was here I had a tooth ache but they couldn't tell me why. They did explain my bill in great detail and offered me an appointment a month away with a specialist, which I laughed at. I came back the following Monday to see the specialist, still in pain and I still wasn't given a direct answer. I was given another bill and they told me they didn't know what was causing the pain but I may need another crown for $1200. Weeks later and the pain has resolved and I save $1200. This seemed like a scam and I won't be back. No answers but sure provided me with bills and billed my insurance. read more

They didn't send any documentation to the insurance and only contacted me after the dispute window has closed with my insurance. Now they are sending me to collections for not paying. This place changes dentists almost every 6 months and that really is hard for me because I like to build relationships with my providers. The hygienists are actually very kind and they have been there a bit longer! The other thing that is really hard is they always try to Up charge for cleaning irrigation, like what is That? I went here to have a failed implant replaced. Even though I have $2,000 in insurance coverage I was told it would cost me, out of pocket, $11,500 for the procedure. Since my implant was loose and causing problems with chewing, I asked to just remove it and I would seek another office for the procedure. I was told an extraction would be $1,500. These prices are outrageous and are more than double what is commonly charged. My wife has had several implants, none cost over $5,000. Extractions have never cost us more than $400. I would recommend avoiding this place altogether and look for honest, reputable offices. read more

I went in on December 15th and was told I needed about $3,000 worth of services. They told me they would schedule me despite it being the holidays and it being busy. I waited about two weeks and never got a call so I called them. They told me that they didn't have any spots left for December which is why they didn't call back. It's been 6 weeks and no one has reached out to schedule me. I have not heard from them whatsoever. I'll have to find a new dentist and start all over because I don't want to deal with a clinic that can't be bothered to follow up on their clients. UPDATE: after I called and complained about how I already had to pay $15 and then re-billing me for it, they left me a voicemail saying things are taken care of. But a few weeks after they left me the voicemail, I STILL get a letter from their collection department requesting $15!!!!! Terrible dental practice. They did a deep cleaning and provided new retainers for me. They convinced me not to go through my insurance because it would be cheaper to pay out-of-pocket. Well I decided to pay out-of-pocket. They then sent me a bill for $15 months later. I decided to pay the amount. Well then they sent me another bill for $15 and then send me another letter threatening to put this through to a collection agency if I do not pay. I call the office and get placed on hold for 10 minutes so I am writing this review while I am on hold. You guys are absolute crooks if you convince me to pay in full out-of-pocket a long time ago, then decide to bill me, and bill me despite me already paying. Outstanding experience! I had called late in the day with dental pain. They were able to schedule me for the very next morning. They also were able to perform the work needed just a few hours later, including a crown! Many places takes weeks to put the crown on but here it only took a few hours. Worst-run dental practice I've ever been to. They're in my insurance network (Blue Cross) but claimed my same-day crown replacement and (highly dubious) deep gum cleaning were not fully covered, and required same-day payment. In fact, they didn't submit the charges to insurance until after months of arguing. Of course it turns out they're covered -- just not at the prices they charged me, about $1200 above the network-mandated out-of-pocket rates. After more months of fighting they refunded about $550, which proves something was wrong. I never did decide how much was dishonesty and how much was just incompetence, because the business manager (Janis) doesn't communicate details and doesn't return phone calls or emails unless out-and-out threatened. ("I'll you back tomorrow ..." not.) They're actually part of a national chain, so maybe this behavior is driven by corporate HQ somewhere. The actual care (Dr. Yee-Paiva) had its problems too -- the crown almost went down my throat, and the gum cleaning resulted in an infection requiring a week of antibiotics. There are lots of other dentists in Abq -- I don't think I'll be going back here. read more

Tried them out as I was having issues with my nearby dentist of years w/their hygienist arriving late for my cleanings. Don't be fooled by the nice digs-they are trying to pay for them by fake upselling. They tried to convince me I needed about $500 in unnecessary gum area work (you know "1, 2, 3 or 4")-I said no thanks. Was willing to give them another shot when they sent my auto generated 6 mo. reminder. Tried to get an appt. in their online system. It doesn't work & says to call in. I did on a Monday & was put on hold for 10 mins. & then told their alleged scheduler was not available. Why not say that up front? Was told this person would call me back asap. I told them to try to leave a VM but it was best to text or e-mail me. Also, I left a message in their "contact us" option on their website with the same written details. Fast forward to Thursday-no call, no text, no e-mail, nada. I tried their online comment option one more time on Thursday night w/the ultimatum to contact me by Friday EOD or I am done. Guess what? Nada. I guess they are making moola hand over fist. Back to my old dentist now since at least I can get an appt. w/them in a matter of a couple of weeks. read more

By Far one of the best Dental experiences I have had. My appointment was at 9 am, but my son's appointment was at 8 am. They got us both in and they were able to get him all finished up and work on me as they were helping other patients. Most other dental offices you rarely see the dentist but 1 minute after they inspect their staffs work, not Dr. Yee- Pavia! She completed almost my entire exam herself. Her staff was amazing though to assist as they could as they were free with their patients. I felt so welcome. It's very unprecedented times right now and I know I had put off being seen, but I am glad that i choose to go back. Dr. Yee completely explained everything and really made my son and i feel safe! They said I would need to come for cleanings at least every 4 months and if we did not get it "under control" I would need a deep root cleaning. This freaked me out. They never saw any problems like this before and all of a sudden I need this huge descaling?!? Funny thing is my sister, who is crazy obsessed with keeping her teeth clean, was just told the same thing today. They said it would cost $800?! For the best equipment known to modern man, which makes the experience so much easier in the long run, I give them 5 stars for that alone. But more than that, they bend over backwards to work with you, to figure out how to pay for it, willing to even finance it them selves, allowing you to pay in increments. Yes, they have access to all the medical financing companies as well. They figure out what is best of you, in your unique circumstances. They take pretty much all insurance companies, from what I understand. I could be wrong, but from my endless questions, I get that impression. I have insatiable curiosity and they don't seem to mind all my many questions. I like to know how to help other people, so I like to know how things work, what can help get people in to see a dentist. Financing is always something that can really stop people dead in their tracks. All the staff is personable and delightful. Smiles all around, they like working there and working with people. And it shows. Great staff! They have a ton of compassion towards people who are sort of scared of going to the dentist, encouraging kids to have fun there. They have treats, like books or something special in their "treasure chest" for getting thru their visit. I have seen the kids come out simply beaming, happy from their experience. Even I love the goodie bag. I am used to really good ones from up in WA, filled with a fresh toothbrush and floss and what not. Though I like it when they tailor that little bag for your own circumstances, it is still a lovely thing. Everyone should have a toothbrush in the car, in their purse, in their gym bag, everywhere one can think of. Just saying, everyone should get a gift like this. Most dentists and hygienists do give a few nice freebies, which allows folks to try some new products or to reinforce what they need to focus on. I REALLY like that they have many opportunities to help the community, too. I love it! Often times there is a donation box at the front desk when you enter. Most months they are collecting for something or nuther. Which means, see what they are collecting, go out immediately and buy it. Because it is not only a way to help the community, you get a break on your bill! Last week they were collecting new socks, it is always something useful for some particular community, like this month is was Veterans. Who, lets face it, have a hard time coming back into society sometimes. Suicide rates of our vets is just atrocious, but I digress. I like helping out my community and if I can pick up something to help out, reminding me I want to help, how cool is that. You get $50 bucks off for helping out with something. I went to Cost Co after my appt and picked up some really nice dress socks, I figured it might help them re-enter the work force. I went back, and since I had already paid, they credited my account for next time. Win! Especially since I need routine perio maintenance for my unique oral health situation. Love it. They give back to the community in lots of way, actually. Yep. I like this place! Highly recommend them. As a theater nerd, I do love seeing the beautiful equipment that is like a light show, too. Right there next to the front desk.You get to see the magic take place. It lights up when it is making the tooth, like a beautiful 3D printer of sorts. They can make a cap while you wait! The magic machine I call it, you can see it light up and do it's thing. Amazing technologies, I love it. State of the art and simple digital x-rays, are very thorough and complete way of doing analysis. From a medical standpoint, that is outstanding. They can be emailed or faxed to another office, if perchance you move or have to change docs for whatever reason. As a travel nurse, I rather like that. I have never felt judged. They support good oral health. What is not to love! Kindness, compassion and excellent top notch educated staff, who actually care. AND if you perchance need a specialist, such as a endodontist or periodontist, they come here monthly. Have not had the joy of meeting them yet, but I plan on meeting their periodontist, as I have ongoing issues with my gums. Note, often times they will see you that day, if you need something. I accidently missed my appt, forgetting which day I was supposed to go in. I called the day after, figuring it would be a while before they could see me. Instead... They saw me that day! My hygienist took me on her lunch hour. I just know she did not eat that day, because I took a lot longer than she thought it would. But she knew I needed to get back in for my perio maintenance, which is not always easy for me to arrange. For going that extra mile, I wish there were more stars to give. So I can attest to the prompt, courteous, and uncompromised service. They do indeed provide a comfortable dental environment that allows you to relax during your visit. I really appreciate that Dr. Frye was so patient with me and took time to explain everything. Being unhappy with my former dentist, when I found out about the $59 cleaning and x-rays at ABQ Modern Dentists, I decided to give it a try. The cleaning itself was a really positive experience. I think we all know what it feels like to get a cleaning and spend the rest of the day with sore gums, but that was not the case at all! The hygienist was really gentle and listened to my input about which parts of my mouth were more sensitive than others. My cleaning was very thorough and well performed but without any pain or discomfort. When Dr. Zeller came in to follow-up after my cleaning, she informed me that the bonds on my front teeth were starting to chip. Like many people, the thought of having dental work gave me serious anxiety at first but Dr. Zeller took the time to explain what the next steps looked like and what my options were. A month later, I came to ABQ Modern Dentists to get my teeth bleached in preparation for my bond repair. I read online that I should expect serious discomfort and sensitivity during the process but again, that was not the case! The entire process was painless and almost relaxing given that the reclining chairs are so comfy AND you are given your choice of movie to watch. Two weeks after the bleaching, I went in to have my bonds replaced. The entire procedure only took 30 minutes and Dr. Zeller did an amazing job. The bonds match my newly whitened teeth perfectly and are very symmetrical with my natural teeth. Honestly, though the bonds are on my front teeth, there is absolutely no way of telling where my real tooth starts and the bond begins. This wasn't the case with my old bonds but Dr. Zeller did a phenomenal job of perfecting my smile! It is now two days after my appointment and I have felt absolutely no pain or discomfort since. The local anesthetic wore off within hours of the procedure and I was able to go to work and take a final at school with no problems. This is the way anyone should be able to have dental work: quick and painless quality! I would also like a to take a moment to comment on the staff and office environment at ABQ Modern Dentists. Every person I have come into contact with there has been SO friendly and accommodating. I hate feeling like I'm being scammed by medical professionals for expensive procedures I don't need but that has never been my experience at Modern Dentists. The office manager took the time to explain every procedure and price to me in detail at all three of my appointments. She explained all of the initial costs, insurance deductibles and out of pocket costs to me upfront which never left me feeling confused or pressured. At one point, my insurance provider sent me a notification that I needed to pay Modern Dentists an unexpected fee, so I called the office manager to sort it out. The inherent problem was that I was reading my insurance claim incorrectly but the office manager was extremely patient and explained the entire insurance statement to me over the phone so I felt more comfortable. Her job definitely doesn't entail explaining insurance documents to clueless customers but she went above and beyond for me and I really appreciated that! All in all, ABQ Modern Dentists is a wonderful office. The office is clean and inviting. The office staff is friendly and helpful. The dental professionals are talented and efficient. I've been reading this dentist office gets a bad wrap from some reviewers. Frankly, they sound like problems with customers, not the office. Personally, I've been going to them for a while, and they've been nothing but extremely professional and knowledgeable. I've had gum issues for a long time, and I've started doing gum treatments with them for a little over six months. They've been nothing but fantastic, walking me through the procedures. Plus they've be super helpful figuring out how to work with my insurance. Monique, in particular, who is their resident Hygienist, did such an excellent job. The only reason I haven't give them 5 stars is there was a minor scheduling issue that took forever to get worked out regarding my treatment, but all was sorted out in the end. I would, and have, highly recommended them. My only piece of advise to new clients is READ THINGS before you walk into an office expecting the moon. read more

I made an appointment here thinking they were a locally-owned practice. I made the appointment specifically for my biannual cleaning. I told the person at my desk I was there for my cleaning; when the x-ray tech asked what I was there for, I told her for my cleaning; and when the dentist came in, I told her I was there for my cleaning. I did not get my cleaning. (The x-ray tech also claimed they do not charge for x-rays, which I thought sounded odd.) The dentist, Dr. Yee, was only interested in upselling me on procedures that cost thousands of dollars and immediately lost interest when I said I might need some time to pay for those. She had a young man come in and backhand waved at me as she left the room, saying "He'll take care of you." Was he the technician to do my cleaning? Nope! He was there to go over how much everything was supposed to cost. That's it. Now I've heard from my insurance company that without informing me, they took four different lines of photos in addition to x-rays that aren't covered by my Delta Dental plan. That is DESPITE my having asked if the x-rays, etc. would be covered by my plan and showing obvious concern about that. That's when the x-ray tech said the practice doesn't charge for them. STAY AWAY! This seems to be a part of some chain that's far more concerned about milking you than about providing care you've come for. read more

I had an urgent toothache and this office took me in right away without questions. It's definitely modern as I underwent about 30 x-rays to my mouth before even being examined by the Dentist. However, the tech knew what she was doing and made it the whole process as quick and painless as possible. It's a little pricey and super modern but as far as bad experiences go, this office made my dental emergency bearable. I would have loved it if the flat screen above me was turned on while I was getting my mouth drilled on but honestly, I was so freaked out that I probably wouldn't have watched it anyway. My dentist walked me through everything and made sure I was so numb I couldn't feel my face (let alone that drill). this was, without a doubt, the best dental experience I have ever had. From the minute I walked in the door the receptionist/office manager was friendly and chatty. The dentist them came out, promptly at my appointment time, and talked to me about my needs and the reason for my appointment. Not only that, but he asked questions about my life and seemed generally interested in me as a person, not just a patient. The whole dental team was kind and comprehensive. Everything, even the costs of work, were explained in detail. Even as my teeth were being cleaned, every step was explained to me. To be clear, I did not need or ask for this treatment. I wasn't having work done and do not have anxiety about appointments. I was treated this way simply because I felt cared for. Found an ad online for 59.00 for cleaning x-rays and exam..well that wasn't true for this place.. They tried to get out of it and I'm betting their doing it for every person. Went in to get this offer and have my teeth cleaned.. And my teeth aren't the best but I do try to keep them clean at least every 6mo. Especially with no insurance. So their ad says they will do this but, Man... You have to read the small print at the bottom of the web page. It says only in the absence of periodontal disease. My teeth were not that bad..only in the back which I'm sure is normal for a lot of people. I assume they could make a case for just about everyone to get out of the cleaning part of the offer. At LEAST "PERFECT TEETH" CLEANED MY TEETH... Go there... They will be honest with you and if you need a deep cleaning you can make a separate appointment for that later. This dentist could have cleaned my teeth but they didn't want to. They try to increase the total of what they can get out of you $$$$ by saying you need it NOW!! BEWARE and read the small print because they won't warn you in advance that you're paying for nothing but X-rays! Their prices are extremely high; looks like they need to pay for their new office and high tech equipment. The patient care part is only part of the equation! Stay away from these folks with a 100 mile pole!!! :( I went in for a filling, they said there wasn't enough tooth left and sold me a crown...which broke. Then they sold me the more expensive model on their in house dental plan. Which they said other dentists in town, ie oral suregons would take. Then they referred me out for root canal, with a free assessmnet from the oral surgeon. The oral dentist said they not only NEVER do ANYTHING free, they've never even heard of this dentist or dental plan??? Both UNM, and the state of NM have free and low cost dental programs...contact them. read more

I moved to New Mexico from North Carolina and I looked online for a highly rated dentist before selecting this one. I went in for a teeth cleaning and in my 24 years I had never had a cavity when this dentist proclaimed that I had THREE. So I am used to trusting my dentist and I let her do work on my teeth. She filled my 'cavities' but I had immense amounts of pain in the one she filled so I went back and she filled it down. During the filling, I had tears streaming down my checks and I could tell the dentist felt guilty. My mom happens to work as a receptionist at a dentist and she was skeptical that I would all the sudden have three cavities after having perfect teeth my entire life so she asked to have the x-rays sent over to her office to have the dentist she works for look at them. As it turns out, I had no cavities and this dentist was scamming me. In addition, she dug so deep into my one molar tooth that now I require a root canal. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone and if they tell you something, I highly suggest getting a second opinion. I am still dealing with the pain of fixing this tooth almost a year and a half later simply because this dentist wanted to make an extra buck off my insure company. read more

Recommend highly to anyone searching for dental care. Excellent customer service starting at the front desk. Everyone in this dental office was super courteous and readily offered to answer questions (even those that probably seem redundant). After exam/x-rays a proposed care plan is explained in great detail. Patient costs are also clearly explained. They are very flexible on their schedule. I have definitely noticed an improvement in my overall dental health since I started going here for my dental needs. Something that really impressed me that I have had issues with at other providers in the past is the facility itself - it is extremely clean and neat and the rooms are minus any distractions for those of us like me who notice problems with walls, masonry, ceilings, lighting etc. Again, go here if you are looking for excellent dental care. read more

I just left this wonderful dentist. I forget his name, but he was awesome! I went to the office on Monday morning and told them I had an emergency had to get seen ASAP. I was seen on the spot for a few x-rays. Was told to come in later that day to discuss what to do about the tooth. I was told that afternoon that I would need a root canal but they could see me the next day, Tuesday. I took the appointment. The dentist listened that I get nervous in the chair and offered me gas to go along with the procedure. That stuff was a life saver. I will never have another procedure without that gas again. I was so comfortable I fell asleep. My wife came in the room and I didn't even hear her. I love this dentist. My wife is already planing on using this dental office. They also have TV's available to watch or listen to while they are working on you. I think thats a great thing to have available, but I just brought my own music and headphones and still passed out.
