PLAIN AND SIMPLE----------------- Drive to Fairview shopping center (Vons) (fairview avenue & Calle Real), or grab a costco card or borrow someones card and hit up the Costco across the street from Albertons- This store recently had a remodel- and the store looks great- unfortunately many employees are still needing retraining (or remodeling to match the structure). I was overcharged for a grocery that was buy 2 at a lower price- I realized this after I read the receipt. I realized I failed to notice the sign for such discount ("buy 2" for 2.xx each) offer. i immediately walked back in to buy the second item- and for some odd reason- i had to go through 2 different cashiers before being directed to a woman who is so posedly in charge of the selves' price tags; she could not understand that I wanted to buy the second identical item to get the "buy 2" discount. We went back and forth for 10 minutes-the pricing person got more and more defensive with every sentence. All this just to remedy this simply common customer mis ring (according to the 1st cashier -this happens SEVERAL times a day) I just got to the point of returning the 1st item and drove my ass to the vons. I was pissed that they didn't understand what I was needing- considering how often this happens to customer- BUT it was there loss. I have given this Albertson's 3 past chances- all 3 were poor at best. the last one was my last attempt since it it 2 miles closer than the closest Vons. I have no beef with the chain, but this particular one has a curse or something. The employees there are all depressed and angry. I absolutely hate this grocery store. I wouldn't go to it if I wasn't two second away from my house. Awful customer service, rude clerks, and never enough checkout stands open. I'm guaranteed to stand in a line whether I'm there at 10 am or 10 pm, it's ridiculous. Also known to sell expired food so that's awesome. I live in IV but got so fed up with this Albertson's that I decided it's worth the extra few mile drive to go to Vons or Trader Joes. There is almost always a long line, produce is not fresh, and they are often out of stock of key items. Also, I went to the bathroom there once and they were out of soap which made me realize all the employees are handling my food and then not washing their hands. Gross! read more

Staff here are poorly trained and can appear indifferent and it doesn't help that cashiers can sometimes be in short supply. Store itself has limited selection versus others in area. No bakery in the store is a major disappointment. Prices can be competitve. Lots of parking. read more

The BAKERY has terrible customer service. I ordered a cake and when it was time to pick it up it was a completely different cake than what I had ordered. Two of the bakery clerks looked at each other confused and made excuses as to why this happened. Behind me in line was a woman with the same complaint from a cake she ordered two weeks prior and had got the wrong one also! After waiting for 20 minutes or so, they called the manager and we got our cake discounted for the inconvenience. The manager did not seem very apologetic though. It seemed as though he was used to this sort of thing happening. Total waste of time. P.S. Great organic produce though. read more

I guess it is the only grocery store in 5 miles radius; seems like entire south Goleta shops here. There are certain hours that you just shouldn't visit, which are 4pm-8pm, you are going to wait at least 30 minutes because of all the people coming back from work 10pm-closing, usually there is one or two employee present in the store after 10pm, but people still shop after 10 (contrary to Albertsons belief), so again a waiting time of 30 minutes. Use the self checkout as much as possible if you don't have any items that needs to be weighted. Much more importantly, this store is full of expired items, and they are always put on top of the good ones so that they can sell. Be very careful of this vicious people trying to poison you. read more

The freshness of the deli food is pretty questionable with the chicken sometimes being cold and the potato wedges being soggy and mushy. I would avoid the deli at all costs. The worker at the deli (in my case it was an older white lady) actively searched for the smallest pieces of chicken and tried to give you as little food as possible for the dinner plate. Honestly, I'm not sure why I even come here sometimes for food or why this Albertsons' deli in particular is so terrible. Much of the things they sell here are also slightly overpriced, so you're better off just going across the street to either Costco or to literally any other grocery store. read more

But somehow, I always leave there frustrated, I swear the check out line takes FOREVER no matter when you go. Used to be fine with this store. Then they took out the self check-out machines. The lines are now way too long and there are not enough staff to keep up with the slack that the self check-out machines used to help out with. Taking out 4 machines should result in additional registers being opened but all we got were 3 little express counters where only 1 is usually open. read more

I've been shopping at this store for over 20 years, ever since it was a Lucky. It's typically clean, the associates working behind the deli and meat counter are helpful and friendly, and I love how it is conveniently located to my workplace. However, the customer service of the front end typically leaves a lot to be desired (though Diane, the front end manager, is awesome). I try to avoid the full service cash registers like the plague, but every so often, I must opt to get into a line if the self-checkout has a line of its own. Each time I happen to get in a line where either Alex or Jaime are cashiering, I never seem to be acknowledged. Both cashiers are consistently too busy with their heads turned to either courtesy clerks or other staff members, conversing with non work-related topics. I couldn't care less when your next break is, what time you're getting off, or how drunk you plan on getting after your shift! Shame on this store's management for allowing such a practice to be accepted. As someone who has worked in the customer service industry for over 10 years (including 4 at a grocery store), I find this type of service to be absolutely atrocious. The last time Jaime waited on me (approximately one week ago), he was too busy with his head turned to another staff member to notice that my receipt had printed out. After waiting nearly 15 seconds, I just walked out; in that time, he did not look at me once. I'm not asking for 5-star service, but it'd sure be nice to have a courteous cashier behind the register. Something needs to change; neither Alex nor Jaime should be in a customer-facing role if they can't so much as pay attention to a customer in their line. read more

I have shopped at this Albertsons on a somewhat regular basis over the last 3 years, and I've been disappointed over and over again. I wish we lived closer to another grocery store! My biggest complaints are the following: 1. Overpriced, poor quality and poor tasting produce. My produce has gone bad within a couple days after purchasing (tomatoes, apples, oranges, lettuce, avocadoes, lemons, etc). I never buy fruits and vegetables here anymore. 2. I have a history of their milk going bad on me long before the "use by" date. I never buy milk here anymore. 3. Poor customer service. I have been overcharged several times, and getting this corrected (refunded) has been a nightmare each time. They need a more efficient system for issuing refunds and making corrections. They definitely need customer service training. 4. Compared to the nearby Vons and Ralphs, Albertsons is consistently more expensive, on average, than these other two grocery stores. Albertsons rarely has better prices. The only reason we still visit this Albertsons is for the RedBox rental station and because it's the closest grocery store to our house. read more

What happened to Albertsons? This used to be my favorite grocery store. Now I go there maybe once a year. I went in there today to get a quick item, and I almost walked out in disgust. It has become an unpleasant place. Here is why: 1. The people: I remember one middle-aged cashier who called everyone "hon" and always had some bit of gossip. I always tried to get into her lane, just because she made checkout a little more interesting. When they started the loyalty card thing, she would wink and give me the discount, even though I refused to get a card. We had a rapport. Well, she vanished during the strike, along with everyone else I recognized from that time. The new group of cashiers might as well be robots. I'm sure they have great personalities, but you would never know it because they are forced to read from a script. The script is supposed to make you feel like you're getting good customer service, but it makes me want to scream. Every time a cashier says "You saved fifty-seven cents today," I feel like I lose a piece of my soul. 2. The marketing: In addition to the aforementioned loyalty cards, Albertsons has gone ad-crazy. They put televisions all over the store. They put meaningless discount prices on almost everything. They turned their checkout lanes into gauntlets of impulse products. They started broadcasting ads over the sound system. And, in a shameful low, they plastered advertisements on the floor. At some point, maybe they'll realize that customers don't like to be ceaselessly bombarded with advertising, but I don't think they've figured that out yet. 3. The products: I used to buy all my food from this store, but now it contains very little I want. I hate it when a manufacturer reduces the size of its packaging, hoping consumers won't notice, and I refuse to buy those products. As a result, I simply can't get some essentials from Alberstons any more, like yogurt and breakfast cereal. Ironically, even though Albertson's is three times the size of the local Trader Joe's, I can now get much more of what I need at TJ's. I'm old enough to remember the "It's Joe Albertson's Supermarket..." jingle. Somehow, I doubt old Joe would be pleased with the changes they've made to his market since he died. read more

My friend and I drove in two separate cars to Albertsons today to meet because we wanted to shop together. I checked out first at about 8:10 PM, then my friend checked out and bought alcohol. I'm not 21 and we were together so they would not let him by alcohol, because that's their policy. I informed the cashier (manager?) that we were taking two separate cars home to two separate places, and she said nothing. She gave me a rude stare. I then asked "okay can I leave then can he buy it?" Again no answer but a stare. So I asked can he buy it from another cashier once I leave? Yet again, a rude stare and some awkward mumbling and no answer. It was completely embarrassing because other people were watching this. So I left and drove home. My friend wanted to buy his alcohol so he went to another cashier and was told by that cashier he could not buy it. Why couldn't the first cashier said that TO US instead of communicating it to the other cashier and embarrassing him? This was terrible customer service and I am still upset and embarrassed about it.
