You know this is the closest grocery store chain near IV and there's always crowded lines at night when everyone is trying to buy their booze and food. Today, I bought some seafood and veges to make a soup. i found there was a looooooooot of sand in one of the clams when we were having dinner, so the whole soup was wasted. I went to the store and have talked to a lady manager. i asked for everything i made for the soup back. She was like she wouldnt return everything so i requsted to return the clam only. Then she said she wouldnt return ONE clam, i had to bring the whole thing. I told her they were already in the soup and the only way was bringing my trash can. After that she started to help next customer at the moment that i didnt get a shlt when the seafood soup became sea sand soup. I have been a albertson customer for years and years. For the most part, I really like this store. The only problem I have is with the deli. They are understaffed during peak hours. Last time I was there there were five people ahead of me and only one clerk helping people. So, it took forever to get a sandwich! Another frustration is they are always out of something. Either it's containers for the salads, bread for the sandwiches or condiments. One time, I ordered a sandwich and was told they are out of stone ground mustard! This is a grocery store! with an isle full of condiments! They couldn't go get a bottle of mustard? Same for the bread! There is a certain employee there who I am sure is stressed out by it all. I am so disappointed with the "new" store. They stopped stocking at least 5 items I buy all the time. They no longer sell cubed steak (for making chicken fried steak) and they refused to run steak through the tenderizer to make me one. The new staff is FAKE FRIENDLY - the opposite of the staff they let go who all knew my name and had worked there for years. Worse than anything - they fired all of the Special Needs people who bagged groceries, they were all friendly and needed those jobs. Of course the prices seem to have gone up quite a bit. The lines are longer than ever - not because more people are shopping but because the new staff is slower and there are less of them working. I have shopped here since 1982, but now I avoid it as much as possible. They took out all of the self-checkouts and now the lines are absurdly long at all hours. The seafood counter is excellent. But the vegetable area is poorly managed. They leave vegetables out until they start to spoil. They will not put out fresh ones until the old ones are totally bad. Also, why is this the only store that does not have corn on the cob half the time? The local manager claims he has little control and said to call the head office. The head office disputed some of the manager's claims and said they would ask for improvements. No improvements ever happened. The head office claimed that if enough people call they might restore the self-checkouts. Again, that did not happen. Very frustrating. A few small improvements and faster checkout would make this store excellent as it once was. read more

* Review for the deli sandwiches only* A co-worker waved his Albertson's deli sandwich in the breakroom recently, and it was chocka cold cuts, cheese and veg. I guessed that it cost in the $7-8 range. Wrong! $4.99. I got the Refugio. Pastrami, ham, turkey, swiss, peppers, onion, lettuce, tomato. On a granary roll. The roll is small and dwarfed by the filiings. Good if you're trying to low-carb it. There are three other pre-set sandwiches, all with clever Goleta names, like the Ellwood. Luckily, there is nothing called the Slough. There's also a create-your-own option, where you can pick 1 meat, 1 cheese and 3 veg. Same $4.99 price. It's made fresh to order, which is good if you're the fresh-to-order type, or bad if you're in a real big hurry. But they are hardly slow, it's the normal time to assemble a fresh sandwich filled with an assortment of goodies. The only downside of the buying experience is the double queue. One to order and receive the sandwich, and the second in the grocery check-out line alongside all the people buying carts and carts of food, or buying 23 items in the 15 item express check-out lane, and paying with a check. You can also give the self check-out a go, but most of us are rere about it and can't figure it out. Whatever option, "to go" does not assume speediness. Still, good sammie! They wrap it up all smartly, and label it "gourmet lunch sandwich." read more

Then she got very snappy with me when i was trying to pay because she assumed I was paying cash when I wasn't. This update is a long time coming, but I take back what I said about this Albertson's being the only place that sells Flamin' Hot Lays. I've now been able to find it at other places, so hmm. I also wanted to add that the sushi place here is a really big plus, and that the wings/nuggets sold here are great as well (the Calle Real location doesn't have them). Only downer is that the staff is out of wings/nuggets by 6:30ish to 7:00pm, so that's not really convenient. read more

Why the heck are people so hating on the grocery store? It's a store, it's clean, it's full of food, a sushi restaurant, and liquor/wine/beer. It's a chain grocery store, obviously not the fantastic sunday/Thursday market or costco or a mom and pop shop. But it's got quick self checkout, very nice people at the meat counter who helped me get a turkey and a duck, and friendly cashiers. It does what it has to, which is provide groceries for its local neighborhood with minimal fuss. Once the self-checkout machine overcharged me (it didn't read that the pork was on sale 2 for 1), so the attendant just gave both to me for free. Big bike rack. Redbox. BofA atm. Large wine selection. Coinstar. Sushi restaurant?! These are all extras. And Reuben S., yes, when you go to a store to buy alcohol and you're with someone who looks like they're 14-20, they're gonna get carded. And if they aren't of age, you can't buy the alcohol. Otherwise the store is basically giving alcohol to a minor, which is a big ol' fine in CA. read more

No, they get one star because when I went in with my girlfriend to grab some last minute snacks and some beer before heading home for the evening I was told that I couldn't buy beer because my lady friend isn't of age. I had a terrible experience with Brian who Is one of the managers. He patronized and belittled me because I was a college student. His arrogant and vile attitude was extremely off putting and made me never want to go to Albertsons again. As I began to question him, he called what I assume as "security" or "back up" for what I assumed was to scare me off. I'm 5'5 and 100lbs I didn't understand why he made such a big deal and why 5 people were there for a situation that really only required two people. Terrible customer service. Every time I get soup for lunch (simple right?) they are missing items (spoons, cups, etc), are under staffed or both. I've talked to supposed managers several times, and nothing's been done. There used to be a store next door that lost their liquor license because people were buying alcohol for the underaged, and thus they went out of business, so Albersons started cracking down. At albertsons (aside from one very nice manager named Brian), it's like you're doing them a favor to shop there. Most everyone else has documented the other obvious problem: this is UCSB's home liquor market. So if you're thinking you'll zip in quick for milk and bread, think again. you'll have 5 different college students in line, each with one alcohol item and apparently NO identification. And what is it about their deli meat, and butcher meat that seems so faded and stale? Although we live only a mile from albertsons, we routinely drive 4 miles to vons because no one wants to eat the deli ham from albertsons. read more

The staff there are extremely nice and try their best to help with everything. The produce are mostly fresh. However, the meats in the meat section are often brown or grey looking. One time, it was not only oxidized but also had a gassy smell (like eggs), unfortunately as a poor student I still cooked it and got food poisoning as a result. read more

Two words: WING BAR! Every time I am in the area, I make it a point to go to the Albertsons for the quick,easy, hot meal of the hot wings. Don't get me wrong, the wings aren't the freshest or the greatest, but its a damn WING BAR! they offer a lot of different flavors, which is also a plus. There are also other "grab-n-go" options (ie Salads, Entres, sushi, frozen yogurt). So if I'm in the mood for something else, its great to be at a one-stop-shop. The prices for groceries are also reasonable, and the staff are always there to help. read more

I love their baked goods, they have nice cakes, and well stocked selection of deli, fruits, and veggies. One thing that annoys me is they charge like nearly $50 bucks for 750ml of Grey Goose, but at Bev Mo is like $28.00, that a huge mark up, jeez. I could understand like $5 bucks more but almost twice as much is robbery. Yeah so I dont buy it there. Just don't bother. I used to be forced here long ago and it was always quite terrible. Recently I lived nearby enough that I stumbled in there for so called convenience and was so sorry I did that I'm quite sure it was my last time. Not only is the store overpriced and lackluster, but the employees are slower than most any others and super rude when asked to help with a very serious situation. I had asked for cash back out loud so that my addled brain on chronic pain override would not neglect to get it done, then punched it in the lid pos after it had failed and locked so the cashier loaded it back with a code and subsequently made my whole transaction show in a totally false and weirdly misleading way. I exited the store and realized I didn't get the cash so I went back in and the employees treated me like dirt with my service dogs crying for water as we stood for another set of tens of minutes totaling so long it's unreal. It took me the entire weekend of calling corporate and being told I should have been shown the videotape just as i had requested the day it happened but the employees had laughed at me and refused so I told corporate just that and they still tried to blame me in a way I was not fine with whatsoever! I spoke to the store mgr after requesting a callback through corporate and he was half upset that I hadn't spoken to him directly and I lost it as I had requested him directly that day and been refused his name or schedule so it's a farce past most at this point...he then had to review things with me verbally to the point where it was a complete exercise and humiliation because I had not told numerous employees and corporate employees what happened with no result and it had been notated different places different ways just for me to have to tell him all over again but it was the only way it was going to work... So I terribly explained it all to him again at great length and he struggled to understand it but ended up calling me to say very unprofessionally but still in a way that made me grateful that "I got your money" So I was able to go and pick up that amount which obviously they must have reviewed the table at 10 the drawer transaction amount correctly with the updated receipt etc. and seeing that the money was never awarded to me and that I wasn't just making things up! It's very sad that they were able to take a personal loan from me over a period of three days or so when I was in dire need of that money to live. It's shameful and I will not be using them for anything again and it's sad because I was shopping with them a decent amount at their other locations and always found that expensive and problematic as well. I would recommend splitting your time between one other regular grocery store whose ads/sales you particularly like and get on the cycle and only go when things are low priced then try out Sprouts and use the online app and the farmers market for healthier better options than a supermarket like this can provide in the first place. ****REVIEW ON THE DELI**** Their deli would have been great. So many inexpensive choices... One of the most appealing was the $3 sandwiches. No frills, just meat and bread, but plenty of meat. We both ordered the tri tip. I tried three times to order the tri tip but picture didn't show it coming with barbeque sauce. Little old asian lady kept asking if we wanted barbeque sauce on it. We said sure (in case meat was drier than it appeared) and she gave us pulled pork sandwiches. We didnt find out til we left and sat down outdoors and opened it. The tri tip looked so good too, but we were too hungry and impatient to go through the lines again. Not sure what kind of crack the lady was on since I was pointing to the tri tip meat on display as I kept saying it. We were able to get 4 different quarter-pound salads/side dishes for $5. So two sandwiches & a salad sampler plate for $11. Not a bad total. Saved money here cuz I was originally going to eat at the nearby L & L barbeque. read more

The only thing I don't like about this store is how inconsistently stocked it is. For example, I bought a particular brand of feta cheese one week and it wasn't there the next week. When I went again, it was there. This has happened a couple of times with the cheese and my favorite cranberry juice. When buying Yoplait Greek Yogurt, I can never be sure the flavors I like will be there because sometimes there are an abundance of flavors and sometimes there are only like four. But, other than that issue, I have no complaints. It's mildly annoying sometimes but it's tolerable, especially since they're a busy store. I've never had any issues with the employees, by the way. read more

I recently call the store looking for Linns Pies. Chris the manager said that they were currently out of stock. This is the nice part. He could have been done right there, but he wasn't. He said that he lived in buelton and would be glad to grab the pies I requested from that store and bring them in the next day. I love coming here!!!!! If I need unintentional comic relief that is. Today's adventure (September 19, 2016) is titled "Automaton Checker and Passive Aggressive Bagger". Not one word from the checker, just scanned and and slid ( I should say virtually threw) the items down to the bagger. No hello or thank you, that would take too much effort. Just a blank stare when I looked him in the eye and thanked him. C'mon man, I know the self-absorbed students are back, but at least try and pretend to not hate your job. P.A. Bagger was classic. I politely said I didn't want a bag for two items. When Automaton had an issue with the price of one of them, there was a slight delay before P.A. got the second item. Once he did, P.A. proceeded to bag the items whereupon I reminded him that I didn't want a bag. P.A. then looks at me, slides my groceries towards me, and then takes the bag to the trash behind him, before returning to his station. I didn't make eye contact, because I was laughing inside. It was truly a scene from "Clerks". I know now that whenever I need a laugh, to drive down the street and come here. But if I need decent groceries and good service, I'll drive that extra 10 miles. read more

Albertsons - Pistachio muffins and Irish Soda Bread!! - Grocery Near Me - Goleta, California

Today I had a horrifying experience at Albertson's (7127 Hollister Avenue, Goleta CA 93117) with cashier Alex G. Upon checking out, we handed over 4 coupons to the cashier for 4 of the items that we wanted to purchase. The cashier would not take all four of our coupons and said that we could only use one coupon. We insisted that we were able to use 1 coupon per item purchased as indicated on the coupon and since we were purchasing 4 of these items, we should be able to use 4 coupons. He refused to let us use all 4 coupons regardless. Alex G insisted that we move aside to "think" about whether we still wanted to purchase these items or not while he helped the next customer. We again, told him that we were able to use all 4 coupons and suggested that he try scanning the coupon to see if they would go through. If the coupon was indeed valid then it should be able to scan. In response, Alex rudely stated "it's not about scanning the coupon, it's about reading, R-E-A-D-I-N-G" and he went on to say in a slow voice, imitating a robot, as if we could not understand "onnneee couponnnn perrr purrrchaseee". He then went on to proudly say that he was the manager and that he was not going to let us use our coupons. I am in complete shock that he would talk to us the way he did. Regardless of whether we use or not use our coupons, he should not have behaved or speak the way that he did to us. He unnecessarily went out of his way to embarrass us and talk down to us in front of the customers in line behind us. Alex G, manager or not, had a poor attitude, was rude and most especially condescending. His behavior is utterly unacceptable and I will not be shopping at this location again so long as he is employed there. I have contacted Albertson's customer service. read more
