This is the Vons here on Turnpike Road and Hollister. It's a pretty big Vons location. Everything was as I was expected where everything was stocked and everything is fairly standard here. I do like how they have a self checkout section which makes a little bit easier. I know people aren't the biggest fans of those but it does make it a lot quicker in some aspects. Remember to bring your bags and also make sure you're signed up for as a member so you're able to take advantage of discounts. It's a fairly decent sized supermarket and it's probably where you would want to come get groceries and other items. read more

SO disappointed in Vons today. The thing that made me angriest was there were NO checkers available. NONE. ONLY the self checkout was available. I shouldn't have to find an employee and ask them "Aren't there any checkers today?" This is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. I have bad knees and a sore back so self checkout is hard. Almost just left my full cart there and walked out. I also hate the double wide carts. It is hard to pass people in the aisles when they have one of those. It is hard to get a single wide cart out of the cart corral when they are next to the double wides. And the double wides make an absolute chaotic mess of the cart corrals in the parking lot. And Vons, PLEASE DON'T have so many extra displays narrowing the aisles and entrances to the aisles. Several aisles were so blocked that even one cart was difficult to pass through the extra displays in the floor. The two best strengths of your store are the checker Michael and the gal who wears the heart shaped pin in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. I'll have to remember to only shop when they are working. read more

The Deli in Vons has the worst service. Besides the girl working in the Deli the managers are very unaware of anything! I have gotten rude comments from the deli managers numerous times. Also every single time I go into the deli they only have one worker which seems very unfair, and typically it's the nice girl working. If Von's and their deli can do a better job of maintaining their service along with their food that would be much appreciated! read more

I agree with the review that says this is a big store with good selection however, this is about their Order Online and Drive Up and Go Service. I had a order drive up and go yesterday at the Turnpike location in Goleta. I could not find any marked parking slots where it said drive up and go. I drove around the parking lot several times to find these designated slots. Then I put in the comments in my app where I was parked which was very hard to describe. I finally saw a lady in an orange vest so I asked her where to park. She pointed to an area that was not marked and there were cars parked there. She did have my order for me. All of the meat items expired yesterday. Half of the frozen dinner boxes were smashed and opened from being smashed. The parsley was the wrong kind. I will never go here again. You should not offer drive up and go if you cannot designate and mark those areas. I am so disappointed because this is the closest grocery store to where I just moved! read more

She had been making Homecoming bling all and was completely sold out. She said if we could come back she would try and make something as best she can. This vons has some of the BEST employees! I can say so much about a few, but specifically Michael aka Mike. My wife and I used to live nearby and would visit this vons almost everyday and every time we came in, we left smiling because of his excellent customer service. We moved away, and after 2 years we came back and surprised Mike. He remembered us, and he was still the incredible employee and friend we came to appreciate! Ty again!! We saw the employees at this location go through hell during the pandemic. An through it all they never stopped being kind, helpful, and genuine human beings. Mai, the manager helped my family and we still appreciate her for all she did for us too! These employees don't get the acknowledgment and appreciation they deserve, but they really are wonderful. My personal favorite experience occurred recently: The Vons Bakery helped with our wedding! My husband & I are big fans of donuts opposed to fancy cakes. For less than $100 Vons bakery supplied us with a 5in chocolate cake top piece and beautiful black & white frosted donuts . They looked FANTASTIC and tasted amazing. Vons at Turnpike has seemed to have a high turnover of late..as many other businesses have also had trouble finding employees..but the newer ones here are rude, unfriendly, no eye contact and no hello. It particular peeves me when there aren't enough baggers and I pitch in and rarely (likeonce) every get a thank you. Just a great overall grocery store. This location has been around for over 50 years, save the awkward 2-3 year hiatus when it became an unpopular Haggen. I love this location as many of the employees have been here for years and years. This was the grocery store closest to my grandma's house and I have memories of going in with her as she conversed with the staff. To this day, I go in and some of the same staff still work there! One of my favorite parts about this location is their produce department. It's huge and always very clean. You're hit with the aroma of fresh fruits and vegetables, adjacent to their bakery which smells equally as wonderful. I'm a big fan of their deli - $6 gets you a massive sandwich filled to the brim with toppings. The staff here appears to be conscious of the customer and it's rare that the line is over 2 people long. The checkout is efficient for the most part, and there is always a smiling face on the other end of the register. I enjoy it here and will be back again soon. read more

With 10% off if you buy six and 20% off on select weekends, they are also the least expensive wine shop in town. If you need help selecting a wine, ask Jerome. I had a great experience here and typically do. This is a friendly staffed and well managed vons... I am writing this review to acknowledge one employee in particular his name is Cristabol or Cristobal (not sure exactly which way it is spelled) he seriously has the sweetest and most helpful energy! He is a focused and hard working, friendly employee they are lucky to have such a good person on their team. He deserves some recognition and a shout out for being such an awesome person! You rock man! He may be deaf and mute but he can communicate better than most people I run into with his clear eye contact and expression. I might sound weird to some people but I don't care, I am happy to say that It's great to be reminded of how cool people are and everyone needs to be appreciated and noticed more. :) read more

It's 8 o'clock on a Monday night, 8/29/2016, and there are 22 customers in one line. There is one checker. When I found another employee and informed him of the issue he said, "what do you want me to do about it? I'm just the stock clerk." I then added, maybe alert your manager to the situation. He then said, "I think he went home." Check out the picture. You can't make this stuff up. Three stars as the one checker that was there was a rock star. Manager 1 star, stock clerk 1 star. And then you find out the chocolate cookies have been previously melted and you have to get back in the same gulag-style line to return the defective food item because there are *surprise* no managers working here!!! read more

Everyone once in a while I make it to this grocery store. Seems like everywhere they are starting to get rid of employees, they added new self checkout registers, which funny there was a big line on those. Must be everyone learning hide to navigate those. Employees seemed very helpful, I was at the seafood counter, and the person there was friendly and helpful., same goes to my cashier. The only thing that kind of bothered me was the girl bagging my stuff, she was but all my things in my bags all mix, like the meat and my hens stuffed in one bag, and my cold stuff bag was shoved to the top with non cold stuff, couldn't even zip it up. I LOVE this Von's. They have great customer service and when a new checkout station opens up, they are trained to invite the people who have been waiting instead of the first walk up. I appreciate that so much. The produce is fresh and beautiful. The meats are really good. The butcher will get you what you want if it isn't already packaged. They are friendly and polite. The sandwich counter at the deli is constantly closed. All the stuff will be out and in the middle of the day, and they just say "it's closed today." Then why is everything out and displayed? Vons used to be a great supermarket, but the last several times I've been in I've found wilted or moldy produce, past date dairy products and indifferent service. Today was much worse. The cashier was hostile. He didn't say hello, so I said "Hi". He ignored me. I asked him if Vons still paid triple time on holidays, and without even looking at me he said harshly, "That's a VERY personal question don't you think? I said "oh, is it?" And he said "Yeah, I think so." I said "I'm sorry." It felt like I had accidentally pushed his button - he was so angry. The guy behind me in line looked at me sympathetically and shrugged. The cashier proceeded to bag my food in the worst possible way, it was clearly beyond not caring. He made an effort to crush the soft rolls and berries, etc. It was an extremely uncomfortable experience. I think this guy could be dangerous, if provoked. I have been a customer of Vons Turnpike for 27 years. Today is my first time to experience bad customer service from a Stella. She was standing near the checkout area. I only bought three items so I decided to use their scanner. While I was scanning, Stella placed two thin plastic bags on my side. When I was about to checkout , the scanner asked me how many bags I was given and I pressed two. After checking out, I noticed that my receipt showed twenty cents for the bag. I showed to Stella and she replied you should have pressed zero because the bags are free during the Corona Virus pandemic. Stella did not inform me beforehand to press zero. I did not want to lie to the scanner so I pressed two. Twenty cents charge is not much but I just want to give this Stella a lesson in customer service. She could have said "Sorry" or offered either reimbursement of the bags but she just stood there offering no help at all. read more

This store is simply unsafe due to extremely poor management. I went in to buy groceries on 8/15/11 at 6.30pm. First, there were extremely long lines at the checkout and not a manager in sight. Second, at the checkout I saw a cooler containing Ground Turkey - the cooler was plugged in but it didn't have a cover! The turkey was very very warm with blood pooling around it - GROSS. This is not only extremely dangerous and unsanitary but disgusting. Third, the checkout lady had laryngitis so she could hardly talk. I'm sorry, but I don't want someone who is sick handling my food/groceries! She was also rude. I won't be shopping there again - ever! read more
