Rarely shop here anymore, even though it's kind of close, prefer Ralph's, but when I do laundry at the laundramat next door I will shop there. The place is pretty depressing. Everything looks old and poor-quality, like the place had its peak in 1963. The surprise for me is that they have some really HIGH-quality food items. For example: they sell a really good tomato pesto at a great price; their Safeway brand frozen garlic chicken pizza is the best frozen pizza I've eaten; and they have frozen entrees they don't have at Ralph's that are quite good (a chicken with pineapple and black beans). Plus, I wanted a tomato, an heirloom tomato, and thought "right, like they will have that at Von's" but they did, and it was great!! Turns out they have produce from some local organic farms, and this heirloom was from one of my fav Farmers' Market vendors, Tutti-Frutti farm. Seems to attract a lot of bikers and gang members and other surly types, but all in all I like it. The bakery is shite though, everything is always stale. read more

I regular shop here and the place is always so clean and neat and the cashiers are always so friendly. Today, Amada helped put together the most beautiful Sunflower and pink carnation bouquet and Luis helped inflate color matching 2 dozen balloons all last minute. They were both so helpful and made my friends birthday surprise wonderful! read more

I would put a zero star if I could. I called to order cupcakes and the lady who answered said there is no one in the bakery department, I said who can I speak to regarding placing a cupcake order. She tells me the manager is gone so no cupcake orders can be done. Will never be placing a cupcake order at this Vons ever again, better yet "Try" to place an order since I couldn't because there was no manager. read more

The blonde cashier sucked. When we were paying I noticed that our bag of sugar and flour were both ripped. I mentioned this to the cashier and she proceeded to tel me that, "I don't have enough time to go get you a mother bag, but you can pay for these and go exchange them after yourselves." Needless to say this cashier was unhelpful and quite rude. Also Vons should also check their inventory. read more

As a long time customer I prefer to shop at this store because of their excelent customer service. However, I was standing at the deli waiting to be served and I noticed an employee in the back (name tag reading Patricia) handling raw poultry she just rinsed her hands and served the next customer with no gloves on. Due to the health emergency circumstances that we are facing I believe that employees should be trianed how to wash their hands properly, glove up and mask up while serving any open containers for their safety and our safety. read more

Here's a two fer for ya. I actually bounce between this store and the Vons on State Street (which is closer to where I live). Each one has their strong points and weaknesses. The Turnpike store has a much better grocery and bakery selection, as well as availability in the produce department, but the State Street Vons meat department is superior in selection and general overall quality. Whatever I need on a given day determines which store I will visit. Service is pretty standard at both. If you're lucky, you'll get a perfunctory greeting from a clerk on the sales floor...yippee (can you sense my sarcasm?). At the front end, checkers can be nice or robotic (usually the latter). It all depends on what day you catch them on or what mood they're in at the moment. I don't really care, as long as they don't overcharge me. Also, the customers on State Street are snootier than at this store. Overall, A-OK. PS...For the Turnpike store...check the date codes. They have no problem displaying out of code merchandise. I've seen it many times. Not just perishable items, but even grocery products. read more

I shop here 3-4 times per week and I have only had positive experiences. The checkout staff and people that help bag my groceries are extremely friendly. The people in the produce department always greet me as I enter that area and the rare time I needed help the man there was great. Everyone says hello now that I think about it - the sushi chef, the man behind the fish counter, the people in the bakery. I've been in lines 5 customers long but that is rare and they will open another check stand. The prices are good, the produce is fresh and not on the verge of rot like Sprouts fruits and veg, the selection always seems to grow and is not stagnant, the parking lot is big and not shared by as many shops as some other local stores so parking is always easy. It's hands-down my favorite grocery store. read more

I live near this Vons and it is my go - to for ordinary shopping. I survived the brief reign of Haggens and was glad to see Vons back again. They carry specialty items I wouldn't normally expect and am delighted to find (full - fast coconut milk, fresh Yakisoba noodles as ex.). The meat I have bought has been fresh though I wouldn't buy the fish. The produce is excellent and the fruits generally tasty. My experience with the employees has been very different than that of other reviewers. They go overboard to help me find things and generally know where to go. Checkers and department folks are friendly and willing to go out of their way to get me what I need. Yes, checking lines can be long and yes, I've bagged my own groceries, but so what? The checkers are generally grâce under fire when the pressure is on and help people out w/Vons cards and coupons. Nice neighborhood feel. read more

They're close to where I live, close at midnite, and have a redbox for movie rentals. Could be better, but it's solid and convenient.

I am thoroughly disgusted and am tired of having to complain to the managers of this Vons Store only to have them brush off the complaints. My daughter lives a few blocks from this Vons. I visit with her once a week and go with her to do her grocery shopping. She has a toddler 18 months old and is pregnant with another child. Every week when we go to do the grocery shopping I have noticed that all of their deli meats and all of their beef, chicken and a lot of their pork all is ready to expire either the next day or within two days. Their beef is constantly dry looking in the display case as though the case has NO refrigeration on it at all. Today I was looking to purchase a steak, every steak I picked up was marked with a November 25, 2016 date to sell buy. It's November 26, 2016. There was a few steaks that the bones had turned brown and it was clearly bad as you could smell the stink from the bad steak. I asked for the manager and showed her the steak. I told her this was not the first time myself or my daughter had complained that every week the food is old or on the verge of going bad. I don't walk into this grocery store expecting to have to purchase bad food, why are you trying to sell this to the general public? She claimed the meat was "Aging" !! I looked at her and said, do I look stupid? The meat is bad, it's tainted and if someone were to eat that they would get sick. Why would you even attempt to try and sell this? She had no answer, I walked away. She spoke to the store manager and then came back to me as I was checking out. She offered to sell me the "BAD" meat but give me a discount. I said, I think you are missing the point, the rotten meat should not even be out on the shelves to sell. Every time we come into this grocery store we have to avoid the meat, chicken and sometimes pork because most of it is bad. It was only 4:50 pm on a Saturday, why would they have so much bad meat out to sell. I told her I was going to report her to the VONS Corporate offices. I think because she told the cashier to give me a discount on the actual "grass fed beef" I did find that wasn't bad this discount would persuade me to not call them, I told her I didn't want the discount and I was still going to contact the corporate offices. I'm tired of grocery stores charging a fortune for food and not appropriately removing expired items because they are so lazy. Then we the (general public) purchase it, not thinking that they would have expired/bad meat out, and sell it to us. We go to use it and unwrap it and it stinks. All we want to do is eat, and now we have nothing, we end up throwing it away because it's clearly bad and we don't want to get sick and it's a ton of time wasted and money too. Vons really needs to get their act together, stop promising fresh food, that's false advertising! Just be very careful if you purchase meats from this location! read more

Small for a Safeway/Vons. You can tell that it is an older store by the size of it, although it has been remodeled and looks quite nice on the inside. Frequently though I will go to look for something which I usually do not have trouble finding at other locations and it will be missing from this one. Very disappointed! I would have given them ZERO stars if possible. We went there to see wedding cakes and possibly order one. It was around 6 pm on 11/6/17. When we approached the bakery, no one was at the counter. We asked for assistance, and someone else said the bakery lady was on break. We could have given a book with pictures to look at while waiting, but nothing was provided. We waited for 10 minutes, then, we asked for a supervisor or a manager to help us. Another employee told us the manager was in the back. We went to the back and they told us the manager was in the front. They called 3 times over the system. 30 minutes later no one was there to assist us. I located a supervisor at the check out and asked if she could send someone and that we had it called over the system. She answered: "I didn't hear anything, the bakery lady should be back" and continued with what she was doing..We returned to the counter where the bakery woman talked to another worker who was explaining we needed assistance. The bakery woman never once acknowledged us and continued talking to the other worker saying that she doesn't know about wedding cakes. Never once she turned toward us, said hello, or tried to engage with us. (40 minutes were passed). We turned around and left disgusted. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

Rude customer service. I am never going back there. Bought tri-tip here the day before my daughter's first birthday bbq and after opening it the next day and halfway through trimming off the fat I noticed it had weird gashes in it, as if the butcher had no idea what he was doing, and it reaked, the meat had already gone bad after only one day. Went down to return it, where the supervisor gave me a dirty look when I said I wanted to return something, then told me the meat didn't weigh the same as the one I had bought (I left he pieces of fat in the trash at home, but she didn't care about that). I was ok with that and was going to go back and fish out the pieces of fat to return it later. I wasn't too upset until I was walking away and she made a rude, unprofessional remark saying (with a ton of attitude) that I was probably trying to return old meat. That is an unnecessary and rude thing to say, especially behind my back as I am walking away. Just because you were prejudice to someone walking up the moment they did to your register does not mean you can be rude to your customer that is just trying to get groceries at your store. After that I've decided to never go back to that vons again, they have been rude and unprofessional too many times and this was the last straw. Went to Ralphs to get another tri-tip there and is was better than all the ones I got at Vons, and the butcher, and cashier were nice to me there. read more

This store needs to seriously up their game! Where do I start.... Every time I go in there, they are always out of the milk & 1/2 n 1/2 that I want, so I have to ask an employee to grab more from the back...The So-called fresh salmon that I bought was not so fresh! Was slimy & starting to smell bad...Mangos were rotten when opened...The lines are always long with maybe 2-3 cashiers working & I almost always have to bag my own groceries b/c there are never any baggers around! I went there yest & there wasn't even 1 cart in the front of the store.. Had to go find one out in the parking lot! read more

This is my local Vons where I spend over $100 a week, every week. I boycotted the brief reign of Haggens which contributed to bringing back Vons. Instead of blessing customers who frequent the store, thankful that they have business and therefore jobs, there staff seems to think that we have to perform for their benefit. I went in this afternoon for my weekly shopping trip. I am a working woman with a family to tend to and support. I have a lot on my mind and wanted to go in and get out as quickly and as efficiently as possible. I am also trying to stay healthy and not catch the horrible flu going around. First thing, they are out of sanitizer wipes at the door for the carts. Then one of the cashiers was coughing up phlegm into her sleeve, over and over again. Clearly she should have stayed home. Last thing I wanted was to be near her and have her touching my produce. Instead I went to the other non express line where a young man instructed me to "wipe that frown off of my face and give him a big smile". Excuse me? I told him I had a very happy life and he wasn't to worry about me. Instead of dropping it, he went on, in ear shot of other customers to say "You could at least fake a smile" Why? "Because your face is bringing me down." Between us girls I will tell you that I am ageing and my face is headed south so sometimes I don't look as fresh as I used to. But I certainly wasn't frowning or angry or rude. Yet he expects me to put on a happy face just for him? Wrong, offensive, it ruined my day. Why must I be subjected to this? I should have reported him to the management but I had frozen items and was anxious to get them home to the freezer. I have to think about returning to this Vons now. It is very easy to switch to an Albertsons, the same distance in the other direction. I do hope the Vons local and national management look at their Yelp page and will consider sensitivity training for their employees. Not the best Vons I have been to. It definitely varies store to store. But they had everything I needed at a decent price. I have only been here a few times and the lines seem to go quickly. The place is clean and well kept. Its in a difficult location across the way from the high school when there is traffic. All in all okay. read more

I'm giving this Vons five stars as a petty, and, let's face it, an insignificant, act of protest. I will definitely grant you that some of the clerks at the particular location are a tad bit crunchy around the edges, and that one could surmise that assisting you, the customer, and, therefore, fulfilling the most basic requirement of their job, which one would not be amiss in assuming that this is innate to a profession that has the words "customer" and "service," or any derivation thereof, in its title, is an inconvenience and utter annoyance they could obviously do without, but, regardless, people, come on, two and a half stars? I think we have become a society of whiny little b$&@€¥# that will only take the time and energy to "yelp" when our pittance of pride has been wounded. I suppose this is apropos since this website is called "yelp," which has, as an English language word, an inherently negative connotation, without any of this website's assistance. When was the last time you yelped in joy? Contrarily, I bet the dog sure yelped when you stepped on his paw the other day, vis-à-vis....So while this grocery does not, in my opinion and experience, deserve the perfect score that is in accordance with the five stars I have rated it here, it does warrant more than the crap rating it currently boasts here. So, fellow inhabitants of the world, maybe next time someone or someplace does something especially spectacular, or, perhaps, just exceeds your expectations (maybe because you logged on to Yelp first and thought that your experience would be just as shitty as the majority of the reviews were...), write up a review to match,eh? And, maybe, just maybe, more people would try to make more experiences spectacular if they thought their customers would give them their deserved laudations afterward on Yelp, and not only write reviews when they were in a bad mood or made a mistake.
