I have never had to queue very long at the checkout either nothing but good shopping experiences. Holland has finally opened itself up to the modern shopping experience which caters for more people rather than just the ones who like to eat bread and cheese or meat a potato. Look at the opening times too, till 10 every night, how great is that! The negative thing I would say is, we have been there on a Saturday and couldn't park the car, but if you go on a week night there is plenty of space.

For tourists, Albert Heijin is the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands, it's pretty much a brand you can't hide from and it seems they have stores everywhere you look with almost 1000 stores in the Netherlands. This was one of my favourite Albert Heijn locations that I visited during my 2022 trip to the Netherlands, mainly down to the size of the store, it reminded me much more of a large Tesco back home in the UK, with a good range of products, that although seemed a little pricey, weren't as expensive as the convenience style AH to-go stores in the city centres and train stations. The layout of the store was very nice, I liked the bold lettering and the overall look/feel of the store, with sections for key products including cheese, bread and wine, the store also has some nice features such as being able to slice your own bread. Sadly the trademark Albert Heijn freshly squeezed orange juice machine was unplugged with no explanation, with no alternative offered. I didn't notice any staff members on the shop floor to ask for help when needed, so I had to find what I was looking for on my own, I got there eventually. 4*

I almost fell out when I saw that they had a long aisle of gluten-free foods. This market in Den Haag (De Hague) is my favorite market in the Netherlands. I was so happy to see a market that finally had a wider selection of Gluten free items. Most of the time when I go to the market the selection is very limited. I have been to several health food stores in the Netherlands and this store and location impressed me the most! They have stores located all over the Netherlands but I would say this is far most the best one in Den Haag. I think Ekoplaza in Den Haag is much more exceptional than the other locations in the Netherlands.They even promote the use of reusable grocery bags, which impressed me because it's a good environmental choice. I wish more stores would try this smart recycling method. You will also find that most of the regular super markets such as Albert Heijn, also sell a few Gluten-free items. However, my first choice would be to stop by Eko Plaza, plus the selection is much wider in Den Haag.

Our friend used the scanner, but we weren't that adventurous and scanned at the register. No matter which method you use, they have employees to help. As far as groceries go, you can find everything you need here, from groceries to drinks to household items such as paper towels and toilet paper. Even if you buy meat and cheese at the farmer's market, you'll still need a supermarket for some items, and this one is the perfect choice. Albert Heijn has ready made sushi, a bakery, a deli, and so much more. They have ready-made salads and prepared foods in the deli, and I bought a Couscous Abrikoos meal. Since my friends were having fried food and I wanted to give my body something lighter and healthier, I microwaved it for dinner, and it was delicious. We returned to Albert Heijn on our last night in town to stock up on candy and other goodies. The store has a huge selection, and I was glad to not have to track down candy at the airport. If you have a car, parking is free in the garage. You take an escalator "ramp" to the store, and the carts "lock" into the escalator so they don't fall. The Dutch really have shopping figured out!

The customers that were there were on a mission to get in and out so a more frenetic atmosphere than normal. It's an XL so it's larger. While the store itself is possibly larger, it didn't seem like they stocked more items than a regular AH. Couldn't find a dedicated gluten free section. The guy sweeping up in the bakery showed me where to find the gluten free bread. Grabbed some yogurt, salami, and chips for tomorrow's picnic at the beach.

Hummm I have mixed feelings about this place…read more This is my most local super market it is quite large but lacks selection. They have very big selections of certain types of things such as sandwich meat and spreads for on bread and every type of washing power under the sun. But then when it comes to something like fruit and salad there is not much to choose from. I find the sell by dates very short lived the fruit and veg is so ripe you can usually only keep it a day or two before it is no good. If you visit around 6pm there is usually no selection of bread and baked products left. They have a system where if you find yourself 3rd in the line whilst queuing you can get your shopping for free, I have been 3rd in line do you think I could get my shopping for free?? no chance, god knows why they promote this offer as it is useless. A friend found himself 3rd in line and had the same experience and took it all the way to the head office with writing letters of complaint, he got his money back in the but not after a fighting battle with them. I wouldn't rate this place too highly, prices have gone up recently and always have to check the receipt as there can sometimes be mistakes. Tonight the girl serving us couldn't muster up a smile or even actually speak to us. But that is in most supermarkets here and not especially restricted only to this supermarket in South Holland.
