Albert heijn is a local and most popular grocery store in Amsterdam/ Netherlands and is kinda something similar To Aldi's.
It seems like there is an Albert heijn at every corner/ intersection. You pay a quarter to use a cart and then receive your refund, when U return the cart at its designated spot.
This Albert heijn was walking distance from my hotel and I stocked up on breakfast grocery. Some of my recommendation is to visit the bakery section as there are tons of delicious breads n croissants being baked and coming out fresh from the ovens. There are plenty of options to choose from as you're melting away looking at this carb sensation.
Another section to visit is the fresh juice area, where they have an orange juice machine, and U just c pose your bottle size and place it, and the machine is chopping up oranges and squeezing a fresh drinking sensation for U.
The prices were very economical and their layout was very well organized. They pretty much carried all the local brands and a lot of items were on sale. They even had a coffee station, which is definitely worth checking out. Also, they have prepackaged sandwiches which were delicious. Try the tuna or chicken salad.
At Checkout, U pay for your own plastic bags. They have lines for cash only, credit or debit cards and self check out. They also have this gadget U can use, where U scan items yourself while shopping and then at checkout, just show the total on the scanner and pay accordingly.
Next time you're in Amsterdam, be sure to check out Albert heijn's. read more
