Albert Hejin is a common supermarket chain in Amsterdam. I went to four different locations and found them to be convenient for simple meals and basic home cooking, and was pleasantly surprised by the breadth of product carried in some stores.
This particular location is located on the corner of Nieuwe Vijzelgracht and Weteringshans, right outside the Vijzelgracht metro station and about a block from the Heineken Experience. Walking in, the entry to the shopping aisles is on the right, they carry all the regular items you'd find in a larger grocery, sauces and condiments, grains and noodles, produce, meat, fish and dairy, refrigerated and frozen food, drinks (alcoholic and non), and prepared foods, candies and snacks, a smaller section of household products like kitchen and bath items, cleaning products.
Prices seemed pretty reasonable for the neighborhood though certain items were definitely higher than what you can find outside the city center. I ended up picking up a couple beers here for to enjoy in the evening after walking around all day. They carried some local brewers (aside from Heineken) which was great.
In-person or self-check out lanes were available. Cash or card accepted. Like most locations of this supermarket you need to scan your receipt at the exit so the gate opens. read more
