We visit Utrecht from the U.S. and the place we stay at is super close to Jumbo (yay!!). When we don't feel like going to a restaurant or cooking, we sometimes buy the prepared meals that Jumbo offers. They are so good! I also agree with Leah who sent in a review, that the prices there are GREAT! I will add a couple of photos. :)

The employees were nice and helpful whenever I asked questions ( I'm from the U.S. so I often had a hard time reading the Dutch labels) but they always tried their best to help me find products. The bakery section always had fresh pastries from donuts to baguettes. I also really appreciated the various checkout lanes which made checking out fairly quick. Having been to other numerous locations all over Holland I believe it. I especially like the prepared food section in the front, when you enter. There is a big selection of items. They usually have a few items on special and are clearly marked. My favorite item to buy was a pasta carbonara. Ate that almost everyday. Also, they do take credit cards. My favorite market chain in Holland for sure. Recommended.

This is a "To Go" location so they have fewer household items and more geared towards commuters or people passing through. We actually walk here to get lunch from the offices nearby. It is very open and spread out. Nicely lighted and high ceilings. Lot's of self-checkout....(only). But I THINK they take actual credit cards, I know some other To Go stores do.

I returned a few minutes later and turned to the worker. She had the card but I was told I was leaving without paying (?!). I paid again (!). It was only when I returned from the Netherlands that I noticed that I had to pay twice for one purchase. More: it's no answer for my letter from Jumbo (!).

When in…read moreAmsterdam we didn't wanna spend tons of money on the food so we ended up going to Lidl and grabbing some cereal, bread, mayo, soda, milk, and donuts. The products are so different there- definitely not what we are used to here in America. They had the mayonnaise in a tube! A tube! It was so shocking to see it like that. We also had milk but it didn't taste like milk it was so sour and it was thick- so when we tried pouring it- it was all lumpy and a yogurt consistency as it poured out. As far as the ham and cheese it was pretty good and the bread was a baguette which was tasty. The soda was really good and was in a strange shaped bottle- everything was so strange looking. The best thing about this grocery store was the pastries and donuts- they were like 50 cents each and they were bakery fresh items that tasted like they were made on site. I don't know how the store looked but only know about the products and the taste of them due to my sister and her bf going to the store to get the food- but from what they were saying- they said the store was huge! And they had a bunch of sales. They said they paid $23.00 and brought back about 6 bags of food to the hotel. If we were to have 6 bags of groceries here- I'm sure it would've been more than $23. I heard Lidl is coming to Philly soon- which is great news- so I'm hoping they have the same great prices and the same donuts and pastries for cheap that taste so yummy.
