I am so happy that one of my favorite places is back open. I was able to place some books on hold…read morefor pickup. They have a number you can call and someone brings the books out to you or you can go inside and pick them up from the hold section. I chose to go inside. I didnt know where I placed my library cards but the clerk was able to help me. She even renewed my cards and checked me out. There is also a drive up book return box in the front of the building now. Seems like they are open at full capacity now.

The study room itself is somewhat outdated but still serviceable. However, I did encounter what felt like an undercurrent of bias from one of the librarians. While using the study room, something about my appearance - perhaps the combination of my skin color and my casual attire of shorts and an oversized sweater - seemed to trigger a prejudiced reaction. It's possible the librarian didn't realize or care that my 'starving artist' look was actually the result of my hectic life as a med student cramming for exams. A word of advice for fellow people of color considering a visit: you might find it beneficial to dress in a more conventional, 'soccer mom' style to sidestep any potential judgment.

Spacious and filled with many resources for community members, students, and library card holders. I've been to this location many times. During my most recent visit I stopped in to pick up my Summer Reading Color Our World prizes! I stopped by two information desks and eventually they informed me that I needed to go upstairs. Once I made it to that desk, the ladies were helpful. I'll be sure to take a picture of my rewards for the Grown Ups Reading Challenge. I received water bottles, sticky notes/flags/pens, drawstring bag, and pen pouches. Defintely worth stopping by and joining the reading challenge! If I'm in the area this is a library I'd return to.

Fort Bend County (FBC) Library was a safe haven when we lost power due to Hurricane Beryl. The AC…read morealone here was the best part compared to the stifling heat inside of our home. There's plenty of seating inside. Computers were also available to use for up to four consecutive hours once I obtained a library card and number to sign in. If you need to charge your phones or electronic devices, there are plenty of outlets available. There's first come first serve study rooms for those that do require more concentration. For a person who loves reading books for learning and for pleasure, this place was great. I haven't combed through a physical book in a long time, since we have pdfs and Kindle apps on our iPhones. But, this library was refreshing. They even have manga books translated to English. Here, you can borrow any book from and return it to any fort bend county library in 21 days. That's awesome. In addition, they have study rooms here and computers for kids to play games on. On their website, FBC libraries also have book clubs you can attend or reserve new books that are released to borrow. Not sure how long it takes for anyone to actually get a new book, though. Plus, it's relatively quiet here, so I feel extremely productive when I'm here to do any sort of work. My regret is that I didn't find this spot sooner. They're even open on Saturdays if you need to work on some things. Logistics-wise, this library is actually located within the UH-SL campus. When you enter, the library is on your left side. Just follow the signs for library parking. Since I went during post-Hurricane Beryl, the gate lever was open to the parking lot. However, during normal business hours, you need to take a ticket before entering the lot and validate your parking ticket with the library staff before you leave the library parking lot. Overall, I will be coming back here again when I need some quiet time or work done.

The building has three floors, each well-organized and offering a wide variety of books across different genres and subjects. There are also plenty of computers available, which is great for those who need access to tech or a quiet place to get work done. The library has a couple of reservable rooms, which come in handy for group work or private study sessions. I appreciate how spacious and functional the place is--there's rarely an issue finding a spot to sit or work. That said, it's not the coziest library. If you're looking for comfy chairs, soft lighting, or a warm atmosphere to curl up with a book, this might not be the vibe. But if you want a practical, well-stocked, and resource-rich space, it does the job well. They even have a 'little free library' that's only 1-4 min walk away from the parking lot. They have a good sized children's books section which is highlighted by a very large doll collection. You can't miss it! Apparently the doll collection was donated to the library and features a lot over very interesting and different dolls. This location offers used books for sale to support the library in the lobby along with its restrooms. There's a Help Desk manned by friendly supportive staff as you enter to accommodate visitors. In case you want to roam solo, there's prominent signage to guide your path. The expansive library offers something for everyone if you choose to visit for an hour or all day. Check their website for upcoming weekly family events. Reading has been a lifelong passion of mine. There's no place quite like it to get lost in.
