Is this my favorite restaurant in the world?…read more I don't know. It's hard to compare all of the meals and all of the places I have eaten at in my lifetime. Literally thousands of lunches. So I don't know if it's my absolute favorite. But it's close. Really close. Like it's definitely on the list. It's in contention. It's on the podium. Why? The greatest pasta in a land known for pasta. Cheese wheels like automobile tires. Some dude in the corner carving up a rabbit. Like, it's kinda amazing. Everyone talks about this magical place. From miles around. They just know it. It is what it is. And suddenly you figure out what they're all talking about.

We started with a bottle of the house white which was only about 13 euros but delicious. We all shared an order of pici cacio e pepe. The waiter came out with a wheel of Parmesan cheese where he swirled fresh cooked pici pasta into the warm cheese. This is what Mac and cheese really should taste like. My friend and I ordered the special which was pork with some kind of prunes and just a little bit of magic. I'm not sure what my friend's husband ate but the whole meal was outstanding. Sitting outside on a street in a walled city eating incredible food was just amazing.

If you're able to get a table outside, the view alone makes this place worth a visit. To start, we split the fantasia di caprino, which were absolutely amazing. The flavors of the prunes, bacon, goat cheese and balsamic came together so well. Highly recommend! Next up, I ordered the pinci cacio e pepe and my husband ordered the conchiglie. We both absolutely loved our pastas, which were cooked perfectly al dente. We also ordered the baked cheese with honey and the rabbit, which were good but not our favorite (we definitely preferred our starter and pastas). Good food, good service- a lovely spot for lunch or dinner in Montalcino!
