We had a great experience with Nick and his partner at Albatross. We had a basement shower than needed to be tiled after our contractor built the shower in our newly refinished basement. There were many flaws in the build that they were able to fix for us and they did a great job with the tile work! Everything turned out great. We also had him fix a few things around our egress window that I would have never thought to do prior to Nick bringing it up. The price was very reasonable for the amount of work the guys did and also came to finish the job on Christmas Eve! Nick seems to be a perfectionist and found multiple other things that could be done in our basement which helped in knowing the job would be done correctly. I got a quote from Nick Hein, the owner of Albatross Custom Carpentry, to replace some rotten wood around my garage door entrance and around my roofline. First of all, I was hesitant to use him, because of the amount of times he stressed, what a "professional" he is and how he's honest and does really good work. In fact, he stressed this too much, which made me wonder. Once I got a quote, he showed up unannounced, to show me a sample, which wasn't a sample, but the actual plywood he was going to use. I couldn't talk to him, because I was on a conf call so he left the samples. These so called samples were beige in color and my trim is all white. I asked him why he didn't pick out white, he said, "in order to match what, I already have, he needed this wood, because it's all Home Depot carries. I found this hard to believe! this isn't my first rodeo, because I've had so much work done on a couple houses. I told him, I wanted white and he we defensive, staying he's the "professional" and no offense, but he does this for a living! I asked him point blank, is this extra trim you had laying around? he said, "no, I just bought it at Home Depot.". Needless, to say, I went straight to Menards and Home Depot and both stores had white vinyl wood. In fact, Home Depot stated, they only carry white and any other color is special order. Nick, wanted to pawn off some extra materials he had laying around and wanted to paint my plastic trim, which would have chipped and defeated the purpose of using vinyl trim. My wife reached out to Nick to help us finish a remodel at our house. We gave him a deposit and Nick started the job a few days later. Nick was never here and had a hourly guy do 90% of the work. When we realize that things were being done poorly we decided to pull him off the project and have him do some work at our business that wasn't as important. He did even a worse job there! We had him replace 19 panels on a wall, of those 19 brand new panels he scratched 11 and then try to use a touch up paint to hide his poor craftsmanship. The paint he used didn't even match, it was a flat paint on a shiny surface! After finding out at our house he had us pay for 70 sheets of drywall but only ordered 80 we confronted him and he Immediately hid from us and stopped returning all of our calls! He ended up stealing thousand of dollars cash, (he loves cash and will give you huge breaks ) from us that we are currently suing him for. I found Nick's address, called the police and went to his house where I confronted him about stealing my money (I have the full video if anybody would like to see) he said he is not paying me back! He said he had to pay child support and spent at all of it. He told me he had recently been in jail due to child support and he wasn't going back! I've talked to a few other people that he has done work for recently one being a nursing home in Fenton that he stole from and did everything against code they had to rip out the entire porch that he put on and start over fresh. I can not tell you to stay away from this human being more! He uses the cheapest materials and is never there. He was extremely creepy with my wife and once told me how lucky I was to have such a hot wife???? Not what you want your carpenter to say! In the final days of working here we had to keep my wife away from him as he would make any excuse to talk to her, it came off very predator -ish. This is another reason why we moved him to our office, just to work off the money we already paid him. There's no way I would let this man be anywhere near my wife or and women for that matter. He is so awkwardly creepy around women even his own workers commented on it when I brought it up to them, asking if he is always this way! I could go on and on about all the bad experiences I had with Nick but all I can say is you have been warned stay as far away from this human being as possible!!!!!!! read more
