A fantastic meal from the drinks, to the appetizers to the entrees. I came with a group,…read morerecommended from a local who raved about the place. They were right! I had a shrimp empanada-like appetizer that was simply out of this world: flaky pastry, creamy filling and high quality shrimp. We ordered two entrees, and unfortunately there was a miscommunication that resulted in two orders of a dish. That's not a slam on the restaurant, nothing is ever easy when there's a language barrier between the customer and the waiter. Both dishes were great, but the one I had with shrimp was blander and less appealing than I expected. It was basically small shrimp (surprised to see such small ones) in a runny/milky creme sauce with diced veggies. Not happy with that, BUT the other dish was a fillet of salmon(?) in a rich and zesty sauce. If I ever come back to Rio, I will come here again to try more dishes. The uniqueness and quality alone make it a must see destination for foodies.

I walked over here from my hotel just to try the moqueca…read more I was seated near the back of the restaurant and the staff was really selling their more expensive dishes. When I asked how big the moqueca was he used his fingers to say it was a small dish. Of course that was untrue as the dishes delivered was more than 2x what he showed and came with a bunch of sides like a gravy, rice and something else. No explanation given of what they were as he just served everything to me. Given all that I read about moqueca I had high expectations about the dish. However the fish was over cooked and very dry eventhough it was covered in a sauce. The shrimps were better and overall it was a very filling plate. The overcooked fish was a letdown for me. I had a lot of leftovers and asked it to be packed up to go (which I was charged R12 extra for). I struck up a Google Translate conversation with a nurse seated next to me so that was a different way to pass the time as solo diners. I ended up giving my to go bag to share with her family since my hotel had no kitchen facilities. Tab was settled at the table with little explanation of the charges. 10% service charge was added automatically. Overall a very expensive dinner for an average tasting meal at best. I won't be coming back.

We had a Marquis de Riscal rueda, and we charged into our meal. They didn't have my dish, but the waiter had a good suggestion. I likened what I had, my wife did not. Calling it a tourist joint: over preprocessed for the food. I wasn't blown away, but liked my food. Consider it a safe bet for attentive service with fair seafood not far from many Leme hotels. Or touristy, but I liked it more than my wife.

I would never have though seafood was so hard to find in Rio. Shirley's was recommended to me as a…read moregreat place to find said seafood and they were right. A longtime establishment, you are greated by white coated waiters and seated a cloth covered tables, an upscale experience. The sardines were excellent. Being fresh prepared, they do not have the same oily/fishiness that many Americans expect. I can't say enough for the garlic butter sauce the fish was prepared in. Definitely one you want to savor. Presentation of the food is supurb, they pull the meat straight from the display, cook it and then bring it back to your table. I didn't get any but the prawns are huge, order sparingly. If there is a downside, they are one of the more expensive places I ate in Rio. However, you get the full dining experience here and it is much more affordable than the states.

Fresh seafood and a good variety of dishes (risotto, soups, pastries, traditional brazilian dishes,…read moreetc.). I strongly recommend the "pastel" (shrimp and crab are delicious!) and the risotto of mixed seafood. The portions are big, so it's a nice place to bring family or friends and to share the dishes. The price is fair to the size of portions and the quality of the food. If you are planing to go for lunch or diner, don't forget to make reservations, because the place is always packed at this time. Bad thing: they don't have a good variety of drinks. Tip: you can park by the streets just after the restaurant (there's no need of paying to park right in front of Siri).
