When I arrived in Anchorage I did not know of a good reputable mechanic to turn to. Having been referred to several who either were not qualified to do the job, did not have the proper equipment to lift the motorhome, we're too busy or outright we're not interested! It was suggested that I give Dean a call which was an experience in and of itself! After explaining my situation he gave me several suggestions to try on my own and if they didn't work he said to give him a call. The suggestions, all of which were valid did not solve the noise issue. Dean explained that he was completely booked but understood my dilemma being from out of town that he made an appointment for me the following day. Dean's mechanic went with me on a test drive and he immediately heard the sound and returned to the shop and pulled the front wheel off and did one of the most thorough wheel inspections I had ever witnessed! He spent considerable time inspecting all of the components of the suspension and wheel assembly and determined that the rotor was ever so slightly warped and out of round which was causing the brake pad to move ever so slightly on every revolution of the rotor when it passed by the brake pad causing the noise. He suggested that turning the rotor would solve the issue but that it was so slightly out of round he would wait until the next time I replaced the brakes to have the rotor turned. He did not feel that this situation would be anything to be concerned about and to continue on my trip south back to the lower 48 states. I did not keep track of the hours but it was at least one hour and approaching two hours and for this Dean only charged me $160 which was extremely fair considering today's labor rates in the $200 per hour range. I would recommend Dean's automotive service in Anchorage Alaska unequivocably to anyone who needs quality honest work at a fair price! While my vehicle was being worked on I thoroughly enjoyed talking with Dean as he is a veteran of the auto repair industry which I would guess of at least 40 years if not more and a very interesting individual to talk with! Go see Dean with all of your automotive needs!

I returned to the shop expecting the owner to inspect the issue and provide a reasonable solution, but instead, he became extremely upset and angry. His attitude was unacceptable and completely unprofessional. Rather than taking responsibility and trying to help a customer who had already paid for a service, he chose to argue and become aggressive. A business should stand behind its work and treat customers with respect. I am very disappointed with the quality of the repair and especially with the way I was treated. I would not recommend this shop to anyone based on my experience.

Thankfully for Yelp I was able to quickly look up tire shops in walking distance. Clines Tesoro popped up and was the only one in the vicinity open on a Saturday (weird??). The gentleman on the phone was super helpful. We let him know what happened and he let us know he was able to help us jack up the trailer and swap tires out (we had a spare). They don't sell rims. But they do sell tires. They let us unhook the trailer and kept an eye on it while we ran home to get the spare. Because of course it's the day we took the spare off to carry other goods we needed for our trip. Very friendly service. Two bathrooms that are customer use only and relatively clean. If you end up with a tire issue in the area I recommend stopping here. They're friendly, accommodating and not trying to rip you off.
