Now it's a well established fact that Manchester is one of the best cities in the UK if you like south Asian cuisine. Not only do we Mancunians have the curry mile. Fantastic restaurants are littered across greater Manchester and Cheshire like hidden treasure for foodies like me to find. Unfortunately Barinda doesn't quite make the cut. Tucked away cosily in the leafy suburbs of Cheadle Hulme, this Bangladeshi establishment has kept the locals happy for a long time. Then again that isn't an achievement as Cheadle Hulme people tend to be a happy bunch. ( or so I've been told) As Most of you will know, for the most part my merry yelping ways make Mary Poppins seem like Jack Dee. But I assure you at times I can also be one miserable penguin (Yes i said penguin, and what? (Pingu was on my mind innit, don't ask why) My beef with this place is that it's serving average food to locals who probably don't know any better and think that the lamb Shashlick (that's how it was spelt... I KNOW!!) is the best in UK. I say this because A) I was taken here by a local who thought so and B) everyone appeared to have nicknames for the waiters (some weird and others mildly passively racist, which was amusing because the waiters had insulting names for those diners too) The food was so bog standard it deserves no special mention at the price it was served in not so generous portions. On a positive note, the naans were exceptionally well Cooked, tender and crispy at the right spots and the popodoms were magnificent! With its close proximity to my cricket club, no doubt the person (who shall remain un-named)who dragged me to this place insisting he could get a discounted bill (and failed, with £15/head for takeaway standard food) will try again. Luckily I have penciled a long list of innovative rain checks for future reference. And It's all such a shame for Cheadle Hulme because Cheshire is full of cute little authentic foreign eateries for foodies to discover. My tip is, if you're treating someone to a nice Cheshire country road trip/picnic/wine&dine, drive a little further down (15 minutes) south to Mughli in Knutsford instead. Because not only is the food much better, you can also treat the other half to a few cheeky cocktails. Mughli has a suave cocktail.... Wait for it....(drum roll) "Bar-in-da" place. We went through their own website (don't seem to be on just eat) and the waiting time on a Saturday night for it to be delivered was an hour which wasn't bad. They specialise in Indian, Thai, Indonesian and Malaysian and this was perfect as all 3 of us wanted different things. The Indian lamb curry looked amazing, my wife really enjoyed her chicken dish and I went for Nasi Goreng which really hit the spot (although I wish I'd ordered a wet side dish to go with it) 3 mains, 3 sides and delivery came to £28 which I don't think was too bad. We'll definitely be going back here to fill our bellies asap!

My fave is the Tandoori Mixed Grill with a Dopiaza Sauce (you can have any sauce you like). The price of fame of course is that at busy times you may need to be a little patient. The trick is, phone your order in, if they say 20 mins, turn up in 20 mins and you may wait another 5 mins, Trust me, the food is worth any wait. The other alternative is order when you get there and go to the boozer across the road for a swift one ! The sister restaurant next door "Gatley Cuisine" is also well worth a visit. Both places do have a great reputation and, while they supply reasonable, good quality food, my personal experience is that they are just a little bit average. I think that the reputation stands from a number of years of being a *bit* better than those around - while, especially recently(ish), the target has moved with the opening of new places in Cheadle and others who are providing a more authentic menu rather than the anglicised selections that became popular in the 80's and 90's I'm being a little bit scathing, perhaps, but it's just that I find many of the dishes lack any genuine variety. I have been quite a few times, though, so it's not bad - just not amazing. Portion sizes for the takeaway are huge - those standard takeaway carriers being packed to the brim - and plenty of actual content, it's not all just sauce. I find ordering from the 'exclusive dishes' section tends to yield the most interesting and tasty results - obviously that's just personal. They have also messed up my order on a couple of occasions - so listen carefully when they (rather maniacally) shout what's in your bag. So, worth a go - and still one of the better takeaways in Gatley - but given the various delivery options out there I would say try a few others and looks for the more specialist (e.g. south indian) takeaways and restaurants.

Not the place for fine dining, but if a pit stop is needed between the city centre and the airport with clean toilets and free wifi then it meets that need well. I also have to admit being rather partial to a Sausage & Egg breakfast muffin!! Friendly & efficient staff here and the place is kept nice and clean.
