I visited this store the other day with a friend to shop for a gift. We had been browsing for about…read more30 minutes, and my friend had even used the fitting room, when an employee approached us and informed us that the store has a "no bag policy." This was never mentioned when we entered, and I have honestly never encountered a policy like that before. We were asked to hand over our purses, which were then taken to the front of the store while we continued shopping. When it came time to check out, the cashier asked whether I was paying with credit or debit. After I said credit, I was told I had to show my ID in order to use my credit card. Between having my purse taken and then being asked for identification just to complete my purchase, I felt like I was being treated with suspicion the entire time. It was an incredibly uncomfortable shopping experience. Afterward, I spoke with several people who have shopped at this store multiple times, and they told me they have never been told about or experienced a "no bag policy." If this policy does exist, it should be clearly communicated to every customer upon entering, not enforced after they've already been shopping for half an hour. Unfortunately, this experience left a very negative impression, and I don't plan on returning.

Service A+ Selection A+…read moreValue debating however it's Alaska's first sportsman's warehouse to rediscover and redesign their store. I appreciate it. They always have ammo, excellent selection of entry level to higher end fire-arms as well as custom builds for your rifles. The fly Fishing department had evolved into something of beauty, forget Sage! I purchased a $1000 sage rod from mossy's fly shop in anchorage and the first month it exploded, $50 repair and a six month wait. It get better. The rod came back! First cast with a 50 mg dry fly it snapped in half. On my way to mossy's Costco had the same rod for $200!!!! I was retailed 80% !!!! Mike at mossy's wouldn't replace it. So another $50 and another six month wait. It gets so much better. I got it back, 1 month and it exploded again. This time I was black balled from mossy's and I won't go into the slander and character assassination he did but sort story is. Another fly shop did the warranty. Another $50 the rod came back broken after 7 months. I sent it back the rod came back back but they stole my rod sock. Luckily I met up with the Sage rep and he replaced the sock. It's getting epic now. This $200 rod that Mossy's fly shop charged me $1000 for and I haven't used much due to manufacturing lemon law has now costed me over &1800 in total. I finally understood the Flyfishing industry is a business to make their products seem better and more appealing. So you and I get excited and feel all happy because we have a status symbol that makes us look cool. During all of this drama I bought a TFO lefty from sportsman's. It casted better, I caught more fish due to more time on the water. I wasn't over charged and ONE time it broke and it's because I high sticked a salmon. Sportsman's didn't charge me any money. They literally no questions asked gave me a brand new rod. That ladies and gentlemen is hands down the absolute best customer service I've ever had and it made instant value not only to the rod but to the company I now trust. It's insane when a big box goes above and beyond a local business like mossy's that took advantage of a customer. Sportsman's see's 10000's of people. I'm a nobody but was treated like what your heart hopes to be treated like. You do not need the best gear. You need a good outfitter and GOD bless sportsmen's warehouse both Wasilla and Anchorage for their insane customer service!!! Nothing comes close and a huge thank you to the Anchorage manager as well. To the corporate team working with Alaska. These two stores are an asset and we Alaskan's need them. Upon entry, an awesome table with fishing paraphernalia, which was great to see since I've been tying flies to get prepped for the season. No fly tying supplies, but plenty of quality gear in the store! The staff was super nice and quick to offer assistance! We were browsing but the moment we were in the footwear section, there was someone there to assist with sizes. Excellent selection of workwear for women, plenty of Carhartt's and Dovetail clothes with sizes from 0-24 that I was able to see. A helpful gentleman mentioned that if my size wasn't on the rack, they'd be happy to check a small supply in the back and also their downtown store. That's was great to know, since I forgot about the downtown location. They have a couple of dressing rooms for trying on items prior to purchase. Although we didn't find boots for my husband, I did pick up some Dovetail work pants and overalls that are not only functional, but attractive too. Everyday clothes men's, women & children...blue collar work clothing, high vis, sportsman wear, boots & shoes and a nice selection of fishing gear to boot! They offer a rewards program, birthday coupons and veteran's discount to boot! Big Ray's is definitely worth a stop!

I was excited because I had a jacked that was leaking down, Patagonia stores are pretty great at fixing this for you. I finally went in and...it's not a Patagonia store, it just looks like one. They do carry a TON of Patagonia apparel, as well as even more high-end brands like Arc'teryx. Probably one of the best places in town for high-end gear outside of AMH (Alaska Mountaineering and Hiking) and it's in Captain Cook of all places! Like most things in Captian Cook it's lit well, inviting, and a bit spendy.
