I used the Yelp App to locate a place to recycle a 65" Flat Screen Samsung TV that had quit. I did…read morenot want to just throw it in the landfill. The App sent out two requests under the projects program for responses. Within 24 hours I received two excellent responses that fit my needs. The first was a local nonprofit recycling center with 6 miles. The other was Total Reclaim. Total Reclaim operates a recycling business that accepts on site delivery of recycling products including TV's and other electronics. I consulted their website for details and location and they were 50 miles away. They also have a pickup service in their local area but only rarely in my area. They do charge fees for their services. I choose the local facility because of closeness and smaller fees. It cost me just $7 to recycle the 100 pound TV. I encourage people to use the services of Total Recall when needed. The Anchorage Landfill operates a limited recycling program at the main landfill in Eagle River. It accepts glass which the MatSu Borough Landfill will not. They also accept hazardous materials but I am unsure about electronics. Check the websites for ALL locations to get details and costs concerning their individual operations. I encourage everyone to use the recycling programs to reduce waste, contamination and pollution.

SWS is a terrible Municipal Entity. My dad died in February. I had to shut everything down at his…read moreplace as it will eventually be demolished as it wasn't fit to live in, we never could get my dad to move out of his beloved property. I brought in all the necessary paperwork. It took them well over a month to shut down because they had to "verify" that the property was vacant. Because it's in Mt View we had the neighbors park their vehicle there so that we wouldn't have squatters as I do not live in Anchorage. Even though the other utilities locked or pulled meters since there were vehicles in the driveway they still billed me. Every utility did as I asked immediately except SWS, they tried to make as much money from us as they could. Municipal entities should be held to a higher standard. This is nonsense. I had every utility email me confirmation of disconnection. The Muni needs to revamp and get rid of the current employees and replace with people who actually care like at the other utilities.

For years SWS has been taking my mother's recyclables and she puts them in Plastic bags(Because Of…read moreher inside trash can.) And Fills these bags With Recyclables like Soda cans, bottled water, Etc. and then Puts them in the Outside Recyclable bin(Which they only take every 2 weeks and is twice the size of the Trash container which doesn't make sense.) And SWS has always taken These Recyclables In the Plastic garbage bags. Plus isn't Plastic garbage bags also Recyclable? Yes, they are. So Because my mom is 70 years old, I Have to go help her take out her trash each week. I Go to retrieve her Trash and Recyclables Bin and Nothing has been taken, and it's got the Same Stuff in it it always does. I call SWS and they tell me they won't take the Recyclables if they're in Plastic Bags. So I guess they expect you to Dump Everything out of your Plastic sacks and into the bins,, which Is ridiculous and is going to get Soda, Beer, etc stains and be leaking all over inside the Recyclable bin. They've always taken these bags before and If there is a policy change Then tell the customer. Instead I will have to pay A truck to come take this Recyclables To the dump myself. I thought Recycling was a good thing. I'm now trying to figure out someplace else that can Take her Garbage instead, So she's not left with 2 weeks of Recyclables And nowhere to put her Recyclables now. Couldn't SWS have taken the Bin and made Us aware Of this policy? I guess not.
