Cardboard Only Dumpsters!
Richard N.

Now that I know where this is I'm using it more often! We have loads of empty boxes from moving. We pay for a recycling trash container at the new house, but it would have taken months to recycle all the cardboard that was piling up in the garage! We had 3 storage units and 2 Conex containers we have to unpack. Just broke the boxes down flat and folded down the rear seats and filled it to the max! Easy Peasy! They take tin, glass, aluminum, mixed paper and of course broken down boxes! Maybe more. It says closed Sat and Sun but the containers are open 24/7! Good to know and it's FREE!

If you don't feel like paying the large fees for residential pick up recycling, or you don't generate enough recyclable waste to make it worthwhile, than this is the option for you. Tucked in behind the Napa Auto Parts store on Dowling, this center consists of large bins for cardboard, aluminum, glass, etc. that you can pull up to in your car and unload for free. The bins (especially cardboard) do reach full capacity sometimes, particularly after holidays such as Christmas.

Dumpsters for cardboard.

A sign is posted saying that plastic bags will no longer be accepted after September 15th (2019). The solution is not to throw your plastic bags in the trash. Carr's and Fred's may still have the receptacles available at the store's entrances to recycle plastic bags. If not, you can use them for shopping and have them handy to reuse. If you've got a big stash of plastic bags, get them to this recycling center before the 15th of September. It is long overdue to do away with plastic bags actually. Especially with so much negligence among the millions who just throw them in the trash, thereby compromising the landfills, our soil and water. It's time to invest in some cloth bags for the grocery shopping!

I requested the old recycling center review name be changed to ARC, but apparently it's easier for Yelp to scrap old reviews and make a new business page altogether. Anyhoo... This place has been open for at least 15 years, or that's as long as I've been hauling my recycling here. I like that there are options for everything from tin cans to #2 plastic. I don't understand why you can't recycle #5 when my work offers that option. I know Anchorage has curbside pick-up now, but I'm cheap and I would rather save $15/month and do it myself when it takes less than 5 minutes to empty a bin. All in all, I know it's expensive to send the recycling off to Seattle for processing, but it still makes me feel like I'm doing a little for the world, even though in reality I'm probably not.

Free recycling services with close access to Old Seward Highway. There are plenty of bins for different recycling materials.

I'm not much of a recycling person but I try. The bins are. Huge and marked clearly in writing and symbols so it's easy to use.

The App sent out two requests under the projects program for responses. Within 24 hours I received two excellent responses that fit my needs. The first was a local nonprofit recycling center with 6 miles. The other was Total Reclaim. Total Reclaim operates a recycling business that accepts on site delivery of recycling products including TV's and other electronics. I consulted their website for details and location and they were 50 miles away. They also have a pickup service in their local area but only rarely in my area. They do charge fees for their services. I choose the local facility because of closeness and smaller fees. It cost me just $7 to recycle the 100 pound TV. I encourage people to use the services of Total Recall when needed. The Anchorage Landfill operates a limited recycling program at the main landfill in Eagle River. It accepts glass which the MatSu Borough Landfill will not. They also accept hazardous materials but I am unsure about electronics. Check the websites for ALL locations to get details and costs concerning their individual operations. I encourage everyone to use the recycling programs to reduce waste, contamination and pollution.

This place is a DUMP! No really, it's a dump. It's a dump that hasn't changed much over the years,…read morebut the things that have are super annoying. Typical things people should know is that this place will accept free hazardous waste, and up to five gallons of used motor oil a day, and that there is an area that will take tools and furniture on specific days that is thrift store worthy. For some reason they turned a new hand sink away. The worst part about this place are the lines to get in to the place, and the fact that you can't back trucks up to the edge of the dump. You used to be able to do that and shove things off the tailgate over the edge but they installed cement bumpers that doesn't allow that. Meh. I found the prices reasonable, about $16 per truck load and the load cannot be higher than the truck. Also, the load has to be covered. I came in once and had the truck bed secured down with bungees, but the money taking lady almost wouldn't let me dump because it wasn't covered with a tarp. She said even if it was cement blocks it would have to be covered. Like, What?! Whatever. I don't really care since I don't come here too often. It's a dump.

I brought in all the necessary paperwork. It took them well over a month to shut down because they had to "verify" that the property was vacant. Because it's in Mt View we had the neighbors park their vehicle there so that we wouldn't have squatters as I do not live in Anchorage. Even though the other utilities locked or pulled meters since there were vehicles in the driveway they still billed me. Every utility did as I asked immediately except SWS, they tried to make as much money from us as they could. Municipal entities should be held to a higher standard. This is nonsense. I had every utility email me confirmation of disconnection. The Muni needs to revamp and get rid of the current employees and replace with people who actually care like at the other utilities.
