I was a little skeptical at first, because the barber did sound like insecure answering my questions over the phone; I asked for a skin fade haircut and he said "I don't do skin-fades ". Anyway, I decided to go and give him a chance and try on my own risk. When I arrived at the barber shop, the place was empty of customers and just one barber, so I said to myself "oh no, there is no body " the barber was seating behind the cashier's desk. Then I proceeded to give him instructions about the haircut I wanted, and surprisingly he did follow the instructions precisely, for me is the first time I get the haircut I wanted; Therefore, Alan's Cuts will be my permanent barber shop, I'm giving the barber shop 10/10. Alan always does a great job with my hair and really takes the time to do it right. Id been hopping around for barbers for a while at least a year when I came across Alan's cuts. It's just the owner that works there, but if you come early enough in the day you should be in and out quickly. Needless to say Alan takes his time his prices are reasonable and cheap and I always walk out feeling better looking than I really am (LOL). This is a great basic go to hair cut dude. I'm rating this place at a 3 because there were DRASTIC pros and cons: I'll start with the PROS: - CHEAP haircut! ($10, and my hair is down to my waist in length) - "Alan" cut my hair. He was very friendly, and made me feel comfortable. No awkward small-talk about school or work. Just the right amount to be friendly, but not overwhelming - Pretty quick wait time, AND service time. I waited for 20 minutes (there were 2 people ahead of me), and it only took about 10 minutes to cut my hair - TV's at every little "station" to eliminate the feeling of NEEDING to say something CONS: - Alan didn't wash the brush before using it on my hair.. yikes - He dropped the comb a few times, picked it up, and just carried on combing (did not re-sanitize like every other place I have been to) - The scissors didn't "cut" my hair a few times.. my hair kind of went horizontal in the blades (dull scissors?), probably making the cuts inaccurate - After leaving, I realized that he completely forgot my entire bang area! I guess you get what you pay for... Overall, this place is friendly and comfortable, and I'm sure if I had noticed the bang area thing while I was there, and brought it up, he would have been embarrassed and fixed it right away. I guess the sanitary thing was the worst of it... but I'm sure you could always mention it, and they would just give it a dip in that cleaner stuff. For $10, I would go again (I'm pretty broke, so it's easy for me to recommend this place). He didn't do a BAD job. I'm satisfied with the haircut, I just have to do a little touch-up on the bang area myself.. which, I shouldn't HAVE to do, but... whatever. It's not a HUGE deal. If I did NOTHING with it, it would still look fine. He did a GREAT job for $10, lets just put it that way. read more

Love this place. Its located right next to Petco and theres almost never a line. He cuts your hair and you are on your way. Last time I got a haircut, it was $10 for adults and $8 for kids. Best of all he does a very good job, I simply get the "high and tight" style and have NEVER found patches of uncut/choppy hair or uneven lines upon further inspection. read more

This is a great small business in a great location in El Cajon California. Alan, the owner has been cutting my hair for years. He's always there to personally greet you and does a great job. There is a nice little waiting area which magazines to read any often times has Sports on the television. If you're into supporting small businesses and need a place to get your haircut Alan's it's an excellent choice. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone, the man there refused to cut my hair because I'm a woman and said it would be too "hard" for him even though I have a "men's" haircut and needed a simple clean up. I have had trouble finding a stylist who would give my hair a trim. I have long hair and no one wanted to help me. I only wanted a couple of inches taken off the ends and I was in disbelief when no one would help. My sisters employer called his salon and we found that his wife was ready, willing and able to help me. Her name is Kim and she and her husband have a salon close by. The name of the business is Alan's Cut. She was very friendly, kind and efficient. I couldn't be happier with the service I received. Prices very reasonable too.
