Very upset with the color and cut. It was my first time there and I was given an appointment with Bonnie. I requested ash blonde/silver color and a trim. I showed her many photos and described what I wanted. When I got up from the shampoo chair and told her it was dark, she said it looked that way because my hair was wet. She used way too much toner and my hair is now purple. I also asked for a layered look and ended up with a blunt cut! I will NOT be returning. read more

Wow I debated whether or not to color my hair and I am so glad I did. I have about 30 percent grey on my dark brown hair and it was becoming dull and brassy. I saw Manny today not knowing how to address my color without eliminating my frame of grey around my face, which I really wanted to keep. Manny is a miracle stylist. This is a MANY years overdue happy customer review for this salon - and specifically the very talented Master Stylist Michelle Mata. Having gone to (and liked) Aveda salons for a few years in Los Angeles, when I moved to San Diego I tried a couple of local salons and I could not find one I liked...The Aveda salon closest to me in Carlsbad was terrible and ended up closing. I tried other salons and they were all MEH. I could not get a wearable, easy to style haircut near San Diego to save my life. Surely there is somewhere around here, but I was so tired of paying a lot for bad haircuts and flaky stylists, that I was ready to cut my own hair! On a day trip to La Quinta about 13 years ago, I decided to try the Alankara Aveda salon and Michelle Mata was assigned to me randomly by a twist of great fortune. Ever since, every few months on a Saturday I have been driving round trip 2 hours each way from Carlsbad to La Quinta to have Michelle Mata cut and color my hair. Since I began seeing Michelle so many years ago, she has become a VERY in demand stylist, and it can be more challenging to secure an appointment with her, but she is worth waiting for, and I am very happy for her success. When she cuts my hair the cut stays wearable for a looooong time, and grows out nicely. She is also an excellent colorist. I have lived in Manhattan, West Hollywood, Newport Beach, and North San Diego and have never encountered a stylist I like better than Michelle. She is very talented, and a grounded wonderful person. Everyone in this salon is friendly, I like that this salon has stable, talented personnel with infrequent turnover. And, the parking is easy. My husband occasionally has his hair cut here also, both with Michelle and other stylists. I definitely recommend Alankara Salon! read more

We got manny very rude . Never felt so not welcomed and uncomfortable I seen other reviews of people who had him and I was excited to be seeing him . I really didn't want to tip but I'm not that rude. I've been going for a couple years. The salon is very nice. Michelle is a good stylist but she has an atrocious attitude. Last Tuesday I had an 11:30 appointment. I arrived at 11:20 and was seated in a chair. Michelle came over and I said, "I'm early" and we briefly discussed what was being done. Michelle said she was finishing up with a client and would be back. 25 minutes later she returned. I asked what happened and why was I left to sit here for almost a half hour. I said if I knew she was running late, I'd have gone for a coffee and returned. Rather than saying, I'm so sorry. I got stuck with a client." and defusing the situation, Michelle picked a fight with me and accused me of verbally abusing her. She demanded to know if I ever worked in the service industry and what specifically I did. She asked if I still wanted her to do my hair and I said yes, please. She said she'd do it today, but never again. I said that was okay with me. Again, as I said before, she's a good stylist and did a good job on my hair that day. I reported this incident to the manager and he was very apologetic and said he would discuss this with the owners. It's too bad that Alankara has a stylist with such a horrible attitude. Because of her behavior I will no longer go to this salon and I will stop referring my friends. read more

Just moved to the area. Very few people cut my hair the way I like it. I'm always afraid of getting a pedicure too. Most of the time I get cut. I was recommended by a friend to this salon. I booked an appointmet with Bridget. Beleive she is relatively new there but ton of experience in the business. OMG. one of the best haircuts ever! She also does pedicures. Why not right?! visited Alankara Salon in La Quinta on Saturday, 7/20/24, and had a wonderful experience! From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted by name by the front desk staff, which made me feel instantly welcomed. Despite the super hot day, they offered me water or tea--a lovely touch. Nathan took me to wash my hair while Monica was finishing up with another guest. Nathan was kind, funny, and made the hair-washing experience incredibly relaxing. I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my hair, but Monica was fantastic. We scrolled through photos together until I found a style I liked. She talked me through every step as she cut off about 7 inches. Thats a lot of hair for someone who used to having long hair! I absolutely love my new cut; it feels so good and fresh! Overall, the team's friendliness, professionalism, and attention to detail made my visit memorable. Well, I gave them a two star because the hair cut and color services are okay. If you care about customer service or value I would have put less than one. The owner is a greedy person. have never seen a place charge extra or try to for everything. The last straw for me was taking my niece for her haircut and them wanting to charge me an extra $15 after I had paid because her hair was taking longer to dry than they thought. I had been spending at least $ 500 to $1000 a month there myself. They didn't care. I would not go there again if you paid me to. When a place cares more about $15 than a year long (not seasonal) regular client that says it all. Now they've lost a lot more than $15! My friends that were going there are all stopping also. In response to the invalid response below. I paid for her hair and when asked to pay more during the blow dry not cut I asked them to show me where they charged more to blow dry long hair. I also had already tipped out the person who spent the time drying her hair $20. It was not the hairdresser lol. In addition I NEVER no showed ever! I did have to miss a few appointments with a phone call due to Covid or Covid exposure. Additionally once with 103 temperature. Once again that shows they care more about money than clients. I would have gladly paid the extra charge if they showed me where it was listed. It was not. They also do not discount for no blow dry or short hair. Price modifications are one way there. read more

I've been getting my hair done here since I moved to town 6 months ago and have had consistent great experiences with the whole staff! I have a LOT of hair, and it always takes hours, and which other salons have kinda guilt-tripped me about? Not here. I get great blow outs, perfect cuts, beautiful highlights, and recently even some pink color! Abby is the bomb and you are lucky if she does your hair. Previous colorists (in other cities) would blame my hair for not lifting well, or not taking toner well, and I've paid some outrageous prices for poor results believing it was just my hair's fault! Haha. At this salon, Abby always notes with delight how quickly my my hair lifts, the tone is perfect every time, and I leave with *glowing* hair and feeling gorgeous, which is how it should be. Having a skilled colorist/stylist really makes all the difference. The rest of the staff is always so welcoming and friendly, goes out of their way to be helpful with scheduling, and I've gotten some great blowdries from the other stylists as well. I love when they stop by and say hi during my appointment. They never push product on me, which I appreciate Bc I have waaaay too many products and am trying to pare down my collection. I did purchase one product that Abby thought would be great for my hair post-processing, and it is! I just really appreciate that they aren't pushy about it here. Bonus: the location is great! Michelle is a hair color magician! I originally saw her to correct my blonde hair that another salon ruined. She not only made it look better but it's in great condition. This is why I continue to come all the way from San Francisco for her. She's a true artist and I trust her completely. I've also seen Kristen and she is fantastic as well. After the first lockdown was over my hair was a grown out mess. Kristen brought it back to life. Alankara is taking every precaution during this crazy time. Unfortunately I did not have as good an experience as the other reviewers. When I stopped in to make an appointment I was told it would be $80 to have my roots done. A bit pricier than other salons nearby, but the reviews were very good. The stylist did add toner- which I agreed to. The end result looks like my roots were never done. But more stunning was the $140 price tag-no haircut, no blow dry, just roots and toner. The stylist was personable and I liked the ambience, but look at the photo- does this look like I had my roots done less than a week ago, much less at a cost of $140? read more
