    Looking inside the falafel saj
    Lois M.

After receiving a recommendation for the Oregon City location, I discovered there is a second location for Alani Mediterranean in Canby at the Canby Beer Library... and I'm so glad I tried them! I ordered a falafel saj (wrap), a bottle of water and a baklava (because I dearly love baklava). I'd never had a saj before and when he handed me this gigantic tube-like thing, so big it needed to be wrapped in foil AND a paper plate, I knew I was in for a treat like none other. And I was not disappointed. Filled with falafels, garlic sauce (spicy garlic sauce also available), tomatoes, lettuce, onions and tzatziki, I shocked myself by finishing the whole thing! The falafels were perfectly cooked, the garlic sauce super tasty, the veggies fresh and flavorful and the flour tortilla enclosing the entire thing was just right. I took the baklava home to eat later in the day because I was filled to the brim with the most delicious wrap I think I've ever had. I'll definitely be going back to try something else, although once having had something so yummy as this falafel saj, I might just have to order the same thing again. With a menu that includes gyros, dolmas, kebabs, salads and more, finding something else to try won't be a problem but man, was that saj delicious! Can't wait to go back.

We were able to try a wide variety of dishes, and every single one was exceptional. I have dietary restrictions (no onions or garlic), and the kitchen and staff were incredibly accommodating. They prepared separate versions of several dishes for me without hesitation, and I never felt like I was getting a lesser experience. It's rare to find a restaurant that can accommodate food sensitivities so thoughtfully while still delivering incredible flavor. The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish, and the service was impeccable. The staff was warm, attentive, and made our birthday celebration feel special without ever being overbearing. Everyone in our group left talking about how amazing the food was. We couldn't have asked for a better meal or a better overall experience. Mediterranean Exploration Company has definitely earned a spot on our list of favorite Portland restaurants, and we can't wait to come back.

We weren't too hungry and ordered 3 dishes to share - the hamachi crudo, baked feta with Blackberries, and braised Greek greens. The service was pretty fast, we received our food within 15 mins. The hamachi crudo was tasty with fresh fish that balanced well with the yummy smoked eggplant, tamarind soy, black harissa mayo, and crispy ginger. The baked feta was the heartiest dish, it came out with piping hot pitas to dip into the creamy savory/sweet feta and blackberries. The braised Greek greens felt like the most basic dish out of the 3, collard greens cooked with a lemon/olive oil finish, which tasted as described but not exciting enough to order again. Just as the name implies, this restaurant is a nice way to try Mediterranean dishes for those who don't eat it often. Admittedly, the cuisine isn't in our top favorites, but all the dishes were executed well, true to their description, and made for some fun bites.

To be as fair as possible in my evaluation of the two carts, I decided to order the exact same thing to eat - except for the sauce. The giant falafel suj was super tasty and the spicy garlic sauce was the perfect complement to all the falafels that were wrapped up in a gigantic flour tortilla. Also filled with lettuce, tomatoes, tzatziki, onions and that oh-so-delicious spicy garlic sauce, the falafel suj hit the spot. Very filling! I just can't believe all that goodness stuffed into that huge tortilla. Oregon City Brewing offers indoor seating with public restrooms and a nice adjacent parking lot as well as a covered outdoor seating area. A full range of beers and ciders are also available. I've been to other Mediterranean food carts but Alani's two locations were top notch with freshly fried falafels and fresh veggies, making Alani my new go-to for Mediterranean food. Next time, I'll be ordering something different, especially after reading the reviews of other things on their menu. With a wide variety of choices on the menu, there's more than enough to bring me back again and again. Thanks, Alani!

The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating. They have great coffee as you'd expect from a Mediterranean bistro but the owner kept my cup full. They do need Splenda or Stevia. No one drinks the saccarin. The menu was varied with many good choices. I had saffron chicken kabobs with ztetziki. Delicious. My friend had a huge Greek salad. Money looked better. I would never have considered this small bistro. Now I will go out of my way to go there again. Soon. It's fun to see a small restaurant that gets it right. Well done guys!!!

The only seating available was the bar but hey that's fine with me. If you're a party expect a bit of a wait, didn't look too bad. Ordered their lamb gyro, fries, 8oz beer on the side. The lamb was great, marinated nicely and grilled to perfection. Tzatziki was delicious and complemented the gyro nicely. Tasty and relatively fast (I was in and out in 30 minutes, and it was pretty busy). Fries were limp...single fried, meh. May have been sitting around a bit; unimpressive. In all, great little place to swing through and only a couple minutes off 217/26. Lots of other good stuff on the menu to try next time I'm back.
