Overall: Highly recommend Dr. Robbins! The good: I've been going to Dr. Robbins for years and every visit has been great. He is very professional and his staff is friendly and efficient. Most of my visits have been cleanings and fillings, but every visit was a breeze. He recently fixed a filling that another dentist incorrectly filled and was causing me pain, and I'm happy that he fixed it right away. I am a new patient with Dr Robbins but have seen him 4 times now and have been impressed with every visit. I've had two teeth repaired, a general cleaning and a deeper cleaning. I made an appointment with Dr. Robbins office and received a confirmation email. I arrived for my appointment 10 min. early as instructed. I waited for 10 min. for the receptionist to come to the desk. When I told her I had an appointment she said it wasn't in the system. When I showed her the confirmation email and email inviting me to sign up for the patient portal, she said she didn't know what happened and there was nothing she could do. It was a complete waste of my time the 4 times I called to try to make an appointment and the office had closed early and then even more time wasted because of the incompetent staff or problems with their scheduling system. read more

I saw Dr. Robbins after hitting myself in the face when exercising. I wanted to make sure my tooth or jaw were not damaged. He was very thorough in his subjective exam and everything else he did. He not only took x-rays but also used a device to test the integrity of the nerve so that we knew the root of my tooth was still intact. Dr. Robbins took plenty of time to make sure I understood my tooth and jaw were safe. He made me know that meeting with me was his top priority and answered additional questions I had about my general tooth health. There was never a moment I thought he had to rush to the next patient. This was one of the most positive medical experiences I have ever had. In addition, Dr. Robbins has gone above and beyond to make sure patients and his staff are safe during covid 19. They have very extensive new procedures put in place including devices to provide surgically clean air. I know many people dread the dentist but I thought going to Dr. Robbins office was pleasant and anything but stressful. read more

I made an appointment with Dr. Robbins and provided my BC/BC insurance card at the time. I specifically asked for a deep cleaning - and a deep cleaning only. However, several other procedures were performed on me, and I received a bill for almost $700 for those procedures. When I called the bookkeeper to protest the charges, she told me that their office was not a BC/BS provider, and my insurance would only pay a small portion of the total cost! I can't tell you how frustrating that was to hear! They should have told me that tidbit of information BEFORE making my appointment! Now I am having to deal with a collection agency that is demanding payment. In addition, my credit reports have been affected. Please don't do business with this office. read more

I had an appointment months ago and I started hating to go to the dentist, the person that did my deep cleaning was so rude even she tried to look nice, there they are treating patients like stupid. While she was doing my cleaning , it was freezing and I was shaking and let her know , but she told me: you are cold but I am hot and she didn't do anything . She wanted to rush with my cleaning so wanted to do shoots for no reason and I was not complaining for pain at all. After she finished cleaning 3/4 of my teeth she told me that she has to stop and continue cleaning another day because she has another patient, when I asked when , they told me to make another appointment after 2 weeks . I never heard in my life to clean half of the teeth today and half after 2 weeks without letting me know before. Very very disappointed. When I went to another dentist and he check my x-ray he told me I didn't need a deep cleaning. They just want to make money thats all. I am very easy going person and not picky at all but I hated that dental appointment . They charged 600$ for a cleaning which is crazy for that kind of horrible job. read more

I am new to Chicago and was in need of a tooth cleaning. Dr. Robbins' office is located on my block on Southport so I made an appointment with the nice receptionist three months ago, in October. After the cleaning, Dr. Robbins poked a sharp object into my teeth. He pulled hard on some of them. "Look at all this decay -- they're all crumbling!" He told me if I didn't pay him $3400 for five fillings/new crowns and have the work done immediately, I was facing disaster. Ashamed, I told him just months before, my dentist in Los Angeles told me she found no decay and I needed no work. When I got home, I asked for a copy of the X-rays and sent them to my usual dentist. She was able to compare Dr. Robbins' X-rays with the ones taken about thirteen months before. She said, "it's the same as last year. Normal crevices, but absolutely no decay. Looks like you happened upon an aggressive dentist." Last week, Dr. Robbins' dire predictions and sour face in my head, I went to another Chicago dentist just to be sure. I paid for another cleaning and set of x-rays. The second dentist said, "you've taken such good care of your teeth!" That's when I pulled out a copy of Dr. Robbin's "treatment plan" and said, "are you sure?" He studied the $3400 plan, which included $1240 to work on tooth no. 30, an implant. He said, "It's not my business to comment on another dentist, but I can tell you you at least one thing, it's absolutely impossible to have decay on an implanted tooth." I thought the whole day before writing this review -- why should I bother? Why should I care? But my inner civic duty voice spoke: "This is a criminal enterprise and this is the only way to warn others." read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Robbins now for about four years, and he has fixed a number of bad fillings/crowns I had done elsewhere. I used to have to carry floss with me at all times because I couldn't eat a meal without tons of food stuck in various gaps from bad fillings. He has fixed me all up, and now I never get food stuck in my teeth. Seriously that changes your quality of life. He also replaced my front tooth when my old crown fell off. He went to great extremes to match the color to ensure I have confidence in my smile. Dr. Robbins is very careful and competent, and his work LASTS. What more could you want?? I was thoroughly impressed by Dr Robbins, his staff, and the entire experience in this Covid era. This was my first visit to see him since Covid and I could see how intentional he was in providing a safe environment for his patients and staff. He was explaining during my visit the air filtration systems he invested in and other technologies to help. Going to the dentist is obviously not a place you can socially distance, but I still felt very safe by all the measures that his office had in place. I would highly recommend. read more

When you find a good dentist, you stick with them! I absolutely cannot stand going to the dentist, but Dr. Robbins makes it as painless as possible. He has great bedside manner, is thorough, and makes reasonable suggestions for sustainable repairs when needed. I had a couple of huge, old, metal fillings that were beginning to break down, and I was shocked that instead of recommending crowns right off the bat, Dr. Robbins wanted to do new fillings. This was over a year ago, and the results have been surprisingly great. I have been to Dr. Robbins office the first time for an emergency filling Dec. 24. He was so kind and patient with me. I am someone who is very fearful of dentists and had some horrific times. Dr. Robbins fixed me up. I felt so comfortable that I went back for annual cleaning and re crowning of a tooth. He is sooo thorough, patient, informative, and very generous with novacane. I highly recommend him. I have alot of re constructive work to be done and he is willing to do it little by little and not demand I get it all fixed in a hurry. Needed a filling and a bonding redone. He did an excellent job and was able to only anesthetize the teeth that he was working on so that I didn't have a numb lip (i.e. no drooling for 3 hours afterwards). Would highly recommend. read more

Dr. Robbins is really the best dentist I have ever had--I was thinking about this just today as he had to do a potentially difficult procedure today (or at least, potentially painful). He is so good at numbing areas and communicating about what he is doing, that for the first time in my life, I have been able to relax a bit during procedures that could be painful. He is knowledgeable, so interesting and friendly, and so proficient--I really appreciate the experience I have had at his office. I could contrast him to other dentists or in particular, one oral surgeon I saw in the past few years, who did not communicate well and was a bit condescending. Robbins doesn't make a big deal out of what will happen but lets you know what he's doing, what the latest research is, and he's genuinely interested in his job and you as a patient. His office is nice, I like the jazz/music in the background, and billing and appointments are handled professionally. To me, all of this is invaluable, which is why I will certainly go to him as long as he is in business and as long as I have insurance. read more

We were patients of Dr Ulffers for years and we were very happy to go with the new dentist that he recommended. We were told in person and in a letter to all patients that we should expect the same level of customer service, care and that no changes in his insurance would be taking place. Come to find out that the information they provided us in November 2014 was false. When we got a bill in January 2015 they stated that our insurance company was still adding him to the network and that they would take care of the balance and they did. Then again BEFORE our next dentist appointment we were told everything was taken care of with insurance and there should be no issues, then we get the bill and its not! I am giving them 2 stars because they are settling our bill and making good on it, but told us "we can't take every insurance out there"! Very sad that this has happened we were very happy with this practice and feel we got "bait and switched" during the transition. read more

Dr Alan Robbins is a true dentist's dentist--that's why quite a few dentists, myself included, trust Dr Robbins for their dental treatment. (For the record, I am now retired). Dr Robbins is a meticulous practitioner of the most up-to-date dentistry. The difference between a great restoration and an unacceptable restoration can be measured in microns; a less than perfect crown or filling might feel fine in the short term, but will ultimately fail if not done with the utmost care and precision. Frankly, it's difficult for a patient to know the quality of the treatment they receive. Alan Robbins primary motivation as a dentist is to do the absolute best work that can be done, and he is a perfectionist. I know for a fact that dental laboratories hold up his work as "textbook". So with Dr Robbins, I KNOW I am going to get as near perfect a crown or filling as possible. But as important, Dr Robbins' knowledge of dental medicine and his diagnostic abilities match his technical skills. And from what I've seen, Dr Robbins is utterly accessible to his patients; he likes nothing more than discussing treatment options, and the rationale for his suggested treatment with his patients. His office is modern and spotless. His staff is friendly and helpful. When I leave Dr Robbins' office, I'm confident I've gotten the best dental treatment available. That's why I see him. read more
