Had a horrible filling experience (old filling had to be redone) and have been in pain for over a month. I wasn't given enough to numb the area, I flinched 2x due to nerve-feeling pain during the filling process, the dentist yelled at me and told me, "lady, you are out of control!" When I said it hurt he told me it didn't and it was only on the surface. The receptionist was so sweet but the other people I dealt with treated me like I was a crazy person during that session, when I called to complain about how I was treated later that day, when I called to complain about it still hurting and was hard to chew, when I went in to get it adjusted since it was too high, and when I called again to say it still hurt weeks later. When I had it adjusted in the office I cried because I was nervous being back there after being yelled at the last time and it hurting, and I was concerned and confused why something so simple was affecting me every day, I was told by an assistant that there was no need to get hysterical. (Same person that when I complained about him snapping at me when my mouth was full of stuff and I couldn't say anything, I was told, "I'm sorry you took it that way. He was probably only worried for your safety with the drill.") In my 37 years I've thankfully never had a traumatic dentist experience until this - I've been so lucky to always look forward to cleanings and having a healthy mouth. I went to a new and very nice dentist today who re-did the re-do of this filling from 6 weeks ago, and just hearing the drill sent anxiety through my body - which I hope goes away over time. I have no desire to ever speak to another person in that office again, or the fake sympathy when I can tell they don't want to talk to me. I know we all snap and have bad days but it's not really ok, and they made me feel like I needed a fainting couch or something - instead of just normal decency or an apology for losing one's cool. read more

I've been seeing Dr.Berdan and co. for the past two years and it's been a pretty good experience so far. I've had basically all the dentists who work out of this office including Dr. Hwang, Dr. Kim, Dr. Conception, and the owner himself, Dr. Berdan. Each one had excellent bedside manner, completed my cleaning/checkup with minimal discomfort and didn't try to upsell me on anything. After a year I was so confident with the services that I've received, I decided to get the crown on my front tooth from a prior dentist (Expert Dental...stay away) replaced. At no point did any of the dentists at Berdan and Co. suggest the replacement. It was completely my own decision, which is impressive given that their specialty is cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Hwang was the one who did the procedure. He suggested I get a veneer on my other front tooth so it would match the crown. Everything was done with care, and I'm very happy with the results. My current crown and veneer look very natural and are much less bulky that what I had before. I definitely recommend this place for general dental care and cosmetic dentistry. read more

I've hesitated writing this review for over a year now, as I usually disregard bad reviews myself, but feel that I must warn others who may make major dental decisions based on the lack of information Dr. Berdan and his office provides them. I saw Dr. Berdan several times for cleanings and cavities, and never had an issue. I even referred multiple friends to them over time. However, I was eventually told I needed a root canal on a tooth Dr. Berdan had treated only a year prior, in which he placed an expensive ceramic onlay on a tooth that had lost a very large and deep filling. I have since learned that this tooth probably should have had a root canal right away, due to its size and proximity to the nerve, instead of an expensive fix that was likely to not last. When scheduling the root canal (which was my first), I was told that I would need to be anesthetized, which I was not comfortable with. I expressed my concerns and said that I felt I could handle it, but was told that my being put under would make the doctor more comfortable. I should have known by that statement to cancel immediately, but I was young and naive and felt they had my best interest in mind. Long story short, the root canal was not done properly and I was in pain for months and months after. I returned to the office three times complaining of continuing pain, and never once was it suggested that I see a specialist. Again, this was my first root canal, and I did not know that seeing an endodontist (root canal specialists) would have been a safer option. I had to pay for a second opinion out of pocket, due to my insurance being maxed out, and was told that Dr. Berdan had probably not had the appropriate tools/microscope needed to correctly complete a root canal on a molar. This dentist told me that most general dentists do not perform molar root canals for this very reason. I had to pay a large amount of money out of pocket for an endodontist to retreat the tooth, which I did not have to be put under for and got through just fine. I still experience some discomfort due to the swelling from the infection under this tooth that lasted for so long due Dr. Berdan's improper treatment, and lack of antibiotic treatment. Needless to say, the friends I had referred no longer see Dr. Berdan either. Lastly, what caused me to finally write this review, is that Dr. Berdan's office is now calling my partner to charge him a balance for his wisdom teeth extraction that was completed more than two years ago. They are claiming the amount they are requesting is what insurance didn't pay. This is incredibly shady, and even seems possibly unethical/illegal. TLDR; Please be careful with Dr. Berdan and his office. They have caused so much pain and discomfort, as well as financial strain. I would hate to see someone else improperly treated. read more

I first came to do my cleaning with Dr. Berdan because of my friend's recommendation, and he indeed made a good, thorough impression, so despite moving to a different neighborhood, I still came back six months later to do my exam and cleaning at his practice. When I made my appointment, I was told that Dr. Berdan will come in to see me after the cleaning. Dr. Melissa Concepcion did my cleaning and was TERRIBLE. Her bedside manners were awful, she caused a lot of pain and ignored my visible discomfort. She was focused on trying to convince me to do a new crown and night guard - "selling at all cost". She ignored my comments that I didnt need a new crown and that I wasnt feeling any discomfort. My gums are still bleeding after her cleaning - more than 12 (!) hrs later and my jaws are sore, which never happened to me before. Dr. Berdan never came in to see me after the cleaning. When I asked the receptionist to see him to share the above, I was put in a waiting room and ignored. Definitely not coming back! read more

Despite all the great reviews, I encountered an awful experience. Staff is extremely polite and professional but far from genuine. To start, I had made an appointment with Dr Berdan but was seen by Dr Bakshi instead. I had completed my exam, films and cleaning (the hygienist was great, I cannot say that for anyone else in that office). I was to have my cavity filled and was given a lidocaine injection. Dr Baskshi then stepped out of the room and Mae the office biller came in into the exam room to discuss the extremely overpriced cost to have my cavity filled (This was only AFTER I was already here at the office and after I was injected!). I find it completely UNETHICAL to begin a procedure without letting me know there was a cost in addition to what my insurance would pay. I have never paid for a cavity to be filled prior and I have the same insurance and they're in-network. I was put in an uncomfortable and humiliating position. At no point was out of pocket expense discussed. Mae proceeded to tell me that there are long wait times when calling insurance companies. However, she had a week to do so in between my visits. She also told me because she rescheduled my appt 30 minutes earlier that day and it had "thrown her off", that's why the out of pocket cost wasn't relayed to me prior and apologized. She also told me the office tried to call me yesterday but my voicemail was full. My voicemail is never full - I am in healthcare and often on call therefore I am always accessible. After the lie about the voicemail I was reassured that they are untruthful, and I will never return and be sure to share my experience. This place is beyond dishonest and I am still so upset. My records also documented that they couldn't probe my tooth secondary to pain. That also is untrue as I am completely asymptomatic. read more

Dr. Berdan is an excellent dentist. His bedside manners are superb. He is thorough and detailed. I feel confident that I'm receiving the best care. Visiting his office for a checkup is such a pleasant experience. There's no wait time and the appointments are scheduled and confirmed in advance. The staff is professional and courteous. The office is clean and comfortable. They always have the latest tools and equipment. Highly recommend the practice and Dr Berdan to everyone. read more

Had scheduled an extraction with Dr. Kim and was pleased with the overall experience. The staff was amazingly accommodating and Dr. Kim was just fantastic. I had two wisdom teeth extracted - one of which was laying flat at a 90 degree angle. I can say that I felt absolutely zero pain. The doctor first topically numbed my gums before injecting local anesthetic and before injecting he would say "you're going to feel a tiny prick" - which honestly, I didn't even feel as he was so skilled. The post-op care was amazing as well. I'd give this practice 10 stars if I could. Highly recommend it. read more

Don't go, don't lose your money. They asked me to pay to overprice than my insurance allows for them. I didn't know I overpaid unless I checked insurance website. I claimed, and they promised to refund, but they didn't yet. I'm still waiting for a check. If you're already a patient, call or check your insurance how much you should pay, it should be less than you paid. Get refund. Doctors are good by the way. read more

I can't say enough good things about the staff and Dr. Berdan himself. I had such a terrible experience at my last dentist (re: Dr. Horri @ Brilliant Smile) that I was dreading visiting a new one in the city. The office staff at Berdan's practice were so empathetic and quick to make me feel welcome. Dr. Berdan has AMAZING bedside manner and made me feel comfortable. He had such a wonderful attitude for seeing a patient on an early Saturday morning! I would be quick to recommend this practice to any of my friends or colleagues in the city! read more

I am saddened to have to write a less than stellar review of this dental practice. After searching through my insurance website for a dentist in NYC accepting new patients, I was directed to this office. After calling to set up an appointment I confirmed once again that they accepted my insurance. I have always been a low risk dental patient ( no braces, no cavities, no nothing) and proceeded to schedule a cleaning. After getting in the chair I was told I had three cavities and I too trusting allowed the dentist to work on my teeth. The next day I was in excruciating pain, could barely eat or drink due to the sensitivity to anything colder than room temperature. I immediately scheduled another appointment and was seen the same week. I was assured by the dentist that it was my bite, and he smoothed my teeth to "fix it". Although this follow up appointment was in regards to the previous appointment, the dentist didn't hesitate to charge me again even though it was to correct their initial mistake. Still unable to drink water without excruciating pain, I found another dentist recommended by a family friend. In the end, I needed to have all of my fillings performed by Alan Berdan Dentistry replaced and a root canal. $5,200 later and I am finally back to normal. Be cautious. read more
